Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/08/15/army-veteran-arrested-for-hanging-us-flag-upside-down-in-protest.html

I'm perplexed by this....it's the first time I've heard that it was illegal to protest in a fashion like this, involving the flag. What do you guys think?

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

Disagree with the law and also feel that hanging a flag upside wouldn't have applied anyway. Believe if challenged, it will be struck down.

I can imagine this is going to cost the city a lot in legal fees and will ultimately be struck down. Complete and total waste of taxpayer money

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

Yeah, no way this law isn't struck down. It's totally nonsensical.

It's actually a state statute, so I don't think it will be the city on the hook. I'm guessing that the state will drop charges and either someone will still post a legal challenge to it and win or the state legislature will try to quietly remove it.

I misread it. I thought it was a city ordinance. It will be the state picking up the tab.

In general, aren't we allowed to burn American flags if we want to? I know this has been a hot button topic over the last 50 years or so (back to Vietnam), but I just don't recall it ever really being illegal.

Burning the flag has fallen under first amendment protection since 1969.

The courts have all ruled that burning an American flag is protected first amendment.

There are a lot of legal behaviors that are not necessarily healthy for you.

One of the suggested ways to retire a flag is to burn it.

yeah, that's what I thought.....I guess I'm shocked that this law exists regarding the story I posted.
