I know this is a little old, (and by old I mean 2016 old), but this event has been brought to my attention after having been mentioned on the Joe Rogan podcast just recently. Comedian Eddie Izzard ran 27 marathons in 27 days, and he did this at the age of 54 with little training and running experience. He had to run two marathons in one day on the last day because he needed to rest for a day. A truly remarkable feat of mental fortitude. Let's celebrate what he has accomplished!

I've actually ran marathons before, and I can say from personal experience that this is really impressive! What was his finishing time for each marathon though??

Well either way, I'm hella impressed by the guy's courage and strength, and I noticed he looks a lot thinner after finishing the challenge. =P But I think what surprises me the most about this is that he's not an athlete. He's a regular guy with incredible willpower. That article mentions he battled dehydration, heat exhaustion and sunstroke. It looks like he also injured his feet real bad too. Definitely not for someone weak willed...

Addie that's a good observation. I did some further reading after reading your post and discovered that he was moving at a pace of 7 hours per average marathon, so in retrospect this was more of a jogathon. The average marathon time is 4 hours per average. Still this doesn't change the fact that this is incredibly impressive, just not unreal impressive - just not a feat of superior genetics or anything of that sort. Anyone who isn't totally out of shape can do this if they have a serious amount of determination and mental stamina. Hats off to this guy either way.

Haha yeah, that's what I thought! :P

It's still impressive nevertheless... It's just that his accomplishment a biiiiiiiiiiit exaggerated, in my opinion. ;)

Regardless, whether you call it walking, jogging, or running, I bet no one here would be able to do this regardless of how young and in shape they are.

I know this is late but I'll chime in on here because you guys want more activity on the forums.

What Eddie did is something the average person would struggle to accomplish, and I respect him for that. He's not an athlete, and he's old. He's not even in particularly good shape, and he jogged marathons. Do not underestimate how impressive that feat is. Sure it's a misleading headline, but it's something actually really impressive if you adequately think about it. He also endured some pretty bad foot injuries and had to skip a day because of that.
