Vote on the poll according to your honest answer, and don't bullshit. I'm a grammar nazi so it gets annoying to see people write so atrociously all the time.

Some people just don't care, and it's something worth learning to accept. The point of writing is to communicate ideas, so if poor grammar gets the message across easily then it won't stop people from doing it. This is especially the case with ubiquitous errors such as "alot", "their/they're/there", "it's/its" etc. There's no point trying to change people who don't care at all.

How could any emancipated individual concern themselves with matters as trifling and inconsequential as formalistic "proper" writing? Surely all these assiduous, overweening critics disparaging others for their haphazard spelling bolster writing as a laborious artform—one which chastens equitable exemptions whilst expelling aberrance!

Please ignore me the above nonsense; I'm just being a bit stupid. xD

In all seriousness though, I do care! But writing coherently comes more naturally to some than to others, and I don't really mind when others misspell words if not out of blissful ignorance (some people are naturals with grammar and memorize it quickly, while others may be less adept and may struggle a bit, which is okay really!)

People are free to write however they want if it's casual writing. I wouldn't judge a person for something so trivial either, especially when I know not everyone sees eye to eye on issues like this. To me, as I said, as long as someone is making an attempt at decent grammar, then that's fine. I may shake my head if the grammar mistake made its way on something published, such as a written news report, story, or a wrapper.

Addie, while I generally agree with you, I wish people would care more. I'm not willing to believe most people are so stupid that they can't type better because they're not intelligent enough as it pertains to written language. The problem is the general attitude of apathy that many people have about writing and spelling here.

Grammar is important, and people should learn how to spell properly. To me at least, the way one speaks reflects their intelligence level. When I encounter someone who uses poor grammar, especially double negatives or improper verb tenses, I automatically begin to view them as unintelligent and contemptible. I'm not saying that I think they're a complete moron, but I can immediately tell that they are uneducated or don't take the writing very seriously.

Lmfao. Addie just wrote similar to how I used to back in the old days of PC, only with more emphasis on being arcane. Very very nice writing!

Yeah grammar is pretty important, and people who can't spell are pretty stupid in o my book. If you're 18 you should be able to spell at a college level, and not the level of someone who just started their first day of class. It's embarrassing, and I will never understand it. I look down on people who make no effort to improve their grammar. Language is needed to communicate so why not use it properly?

Oh stop it you. Don't flatter me. :P

That was just basically my verbal diarrhea. xD

As I stated before, language is a skill, and some people are more adept at learning languages than others. For some people, memorizing vocabulary just doesn't stick as well as it would for others, and that's okay. Give it at least some effort so that your writing is legible, and you're fine. =)

No one I talk to over imessage writes coherently. Not. A. Single. Person.

But guess what! I don't care. What matters to me is the quality of the message. If you can convey your message to me with less words, good for you. If we're talking about common misspellings such as "alot", then I don't care at all. I know what "alot" is supposed to mean, so why should I care if people misspell it? xD We create language, so language can adapt whether in written or spoken form.

I took writing classes in college myself but it was all pretty easy stuff. Nowadays it seems the vast majority of people really don't take writing seriously at all, especially through text messaging where speed is prioritized over accuracy. You can sometimes tell if someone cares, wants to write faster, or if they're just ignorant. On programs like "iMessage" everyone looks retarded, but if you know them in person or talk to them over the phone you can extrapolate how intelligent they really are.

Addie's right that writing properly comes more naturally to some than to others, but if English is your native language, you should not have to struggle spelling basic words either. Learn your language, and stop making excuses to write like a 10 year old. Those excuses aren't going to convince me anything other than you being a total moron. I'm sorry but your writing coherency does say something about you.
