![]() Oooh, spooky theme music! So like I said in the shoutbox. I had an idea to hold a RP that's basically "build a city". You players would be in charge of handling a village that's just been built on Paxia. At start, there's but a handful of people, 20 or so Clanless, and then come the player characters. Player characters can come from any of the clans, although someone going for an Unity character would be allowed to join as well. The goal of the game is that there is no goal. My job as the GM is simply to throw you people challenges every once in a while. I don't care how you handle the situation, or how you handle your village. You will need to come up with ideas how to expand, how to get more people to migrate and so on. I'll have to think of a way to portray the passing of time. Maybe I'd do that there's monthly steps to the RP? Like, RP starts, you players do stuff and once you think you've messed around enough, interacted with each other or the villagers, give the word and I'll flip over the next month. Then I think of something to happen. Like, you talked the villagers into digging a well as well as to hunt. Your well-search didn't go so well(get it?), with no water source around the current village grounds. While hunting, a huge boar gored two of your villagers, only one survived, bringing you down to 19 people. I'd try to simulate villager mood to the whole thing as well. Like if a certain clan shows up and starts to dominate the other ones with numbers and doing their best to get their ideas through, and those ideas fail, the people could stop listening to them altogether for a little while, or in case it's severe enough, try to throw said individuals out of the village altogether. Again, what you do is up to the players. So, anyone interested? IN CASE THIS FORUM ISN'T USED I'LL HOLD IT AT THE OTHER PF. YOU KNOW THE ONE I MEAN. Villager stats: 32 villagers, of which 2 are novice hunters. Village buildings: Housing. Dock. Food in storage: 10 units. Edited by Leb, Jan 18 2011, 01:37 AM.

I'd certainly join it, an entirely open-ended RP sounds rather fun, or at worst interesting. I like your idea for time passage, that's something that always seems fairly poorly executed in a lot of RPs I read, making it seem like all the many pages of action happen in the space of about half an hour. |

Sounded entertaining in the shoutbox, the ideas here make it sound even better. The idea of building the city in particular sounds fun, I'm sure it'll be incredibly screwed u-I mean a thriving utopia. |

Well, right off the bat we wouldn't even need that many players, because the more there are the bigger the issues regarding RP movement get. So we might as well start the thing and yeah. Rules for joining: - Post about it in this thread. - As well as that, post a bio. What I want in the bio: Name, equipment(basic description and enchantments), skills. Everything else goes to be told in the RP, IF the need arises. Like, don't go spouting internal monologue about your character history unless it's really necessary. And that's it for those. Because I'm such a nice(?) guy though, here. The Paxian map. ![]() First person to post can pick the location of the village. Considering the rather uneven spread of forests on Paxia according to the map, let's just say that all those places of land where there are shrub-sorta icons are moderately forested. Village location declaration will just help me start to brew up ideas regarding the area, as well as tell you which clan's are closest to you. It might be important, WHO KNOWS. Alternatively, first person to WRITE the location get's to be the one to decide where the village is located. In that case, you can have three(3) locations around the village. Like a river would be one(can choose how huge it is), a dense forest would be 2nd and a mountain might be 3rd. Has to make some sort of sense, nothing magical(although locations COULD turn out to be magical in some way sooner or later) at start. You could of course just mix the two. Look at map, mark the village location(red dot or something, upload and post the new map here so everyone can see where the village is at), and then write what special things are around the village. Now, "game" rules. You start with 20 villagers. Housing is done automatically by them, so when new people show up, they first live in small tents or other simple shelters, until they manage to build a place of their own on their free time. As players, you can choose if you want something special built. As the GM, depending on project size, I'll tell how long it will take to build whatever you want. Like if you want to build a castle out of rock, I could come down from my ivory tower and dictate that it'll take 1000 villager workhours to complete it. After that, you designate how many people you want working at it. With 20 people, every month you'd get 20 units towards completing it, and so on. Your village needs food too. Farmers are your basic food-supply. Each farmer produces 2 units of food, 1 unit if the crops didn't turn out as good as they could have, 0 if disaster strikes. On the other side of the scale, they could produce 3 units with better-than-usual crop results, or 4 if the conditions were excellent. Let's just say that they net you food monthly. The last 3 months of the game year you can't farm, because winter arrives. This might be averted if you people are clever enough. Hunters are also able to provide food for the village. Each hunter always comes back with 2 units of food, 3 if the hunt was good, or 4+ if the hunt was excellent(depends what they found). They are able to get you food through the year, as well gain experience at their job and using their hunting weapons. However, hunting can be dangerous if the prey they're tracking turns out to be more dangerous than they thought, so you risk villager injury or even death. Injuries will take time to heal, which I will decide how long it'll be. Fishermen work like farmers, 2 units of food per month, and the other numbers work the same depending how good their catch was. You can fish during winter though, but if you're inland, the lakes might be frozen and you'd need people to break the ice first. Hazards include falling into the lake because of weak ice, extreme cold and frostbites and random blizzards. Player characters, since they're so awesome, will have 1.5x the results of food gathering or building things. However, PC's will still risk the same hazards that other villagers do. Each month a villager uses 1 unit of food, player characters use the same amount. That's it, I guess. I'll start to think up things, and maybe even post the RP thread once I get back, unless no one has dared to decide on the fate of the village. I'll be the one keeping tabs on the numbers and posting 'em on the OOC, although in case of stuff like food supplies running low and food output isn't enough to feed your village, that'll show up in the RP during monthly passing as villager talk and so on. |

Wolfie and I talked about the points of interest already on MSN, and thanks to him I got around to making the RP thread. Here are the facts. You have 20 people. The village is located in a valley between 2 mountains and close to the lakeshores. The villagers worked hard to build a port and have a few(3) simple fishing boats. (First Point of Interest) The mountains surrounding the valley are known to have rich mineral veins. (Second Point of Interest) At the end of the path between the mountains, is an ancient druidic circle. Standing in it, people have reported having their strength restored. (Third Point of Interest) Now, it's time for people interested to join this to post your bio, and then enter the RP. Get to know your neighbour(only the PC's matter), start making a gameplan and then, let the village building begin! |

I've made a bio. I've made it really simple, no overly described stuff. If you need more description, I'll do it. Name: Kael Shadowvar Age: 53 Height: 5' 11'' Weight: 148 lb. He rarely wears his hood, preferring to leave his head exposed. Equipment: Spell focuses, darkwood staff, black-hilted sword, basic survival stuff (rope, food, water). Magic: Dark and Shadow Magic, Necromancy. Skills: Smart, wise, strategic (Not actually skills, but help in skills that needs his intelligence and wisdom). |

Do whatever you deem best. Like I said, I don't care. Start acting like a boss and ordering people immediately, do that then. Get to the village and learn what it's like, talk with other PC's first and then start giving orders to the villagers, that works too. Whatever YOU deem best, go for it. My job is only to bring up events, outcomes and so on. I'm giving the players the right to bunny the villagers, what they do, what they say and so on. How they react to orders and outcomes however is up to me, and will be revealed at the end of each month. Right off the start, they're quite content with the situation, since real Adventurers have shown up to help them. Surely they're there to help, right? |
