What makes a good story for a roleplay?

I know its down to taste, but I'm asking you all. What do you want to see in a storyline for a roleplay.

While not necessary, a good way to have a story is where the goal is reachable in any way the players want to get there.

Although a good story with limited routes can be entertaining as well.

That's all I have, really.

It depends honestly. I typically find it bettr that the macguffin isn't a or directly involved with a GM PC. I see t alot, and while sometimes it's fine, it gets old pretty fast knowing that the main character is the GM always and you are secondary protaganists, if not outright tertiary ones.

Otherwise I can roll with most things.

@Ragnorra: I know exactly that feeling. The DM's character of the game I'm in is what we could call the main hero of the campaign. Insult to injury, he says thet his character isn't a hero, and he is just a symbol. Oddly enough, when that same character dies, he is reborn as a Child of the Light, as a result of the vast majority of the people in the world wishing him to still live.

Well, depending on some players, different kind of things can make a good story. For example, some like to have romantism in the RP, especially with other players. For others, a lot of war and battles are making things much more interesting. While others prefer to speak with others and develop some kind of relation between other characters.

My personal view on this matter is to include a large variety of possibilities, such as opportunities for characters to be together and talk to each other, battles, side-quests, even puzzles. I also like when the GM tries to make something like a side-quest for characters, depending on who they are and what their background is.

That was exactly the problem I had with one of Wolfie's RPs I joined on the LPF.

You joined one of my rps on the LPF? Which one?

Anyway I've tried to solve this problem to a point in kaethos. One of the notable things is actually decreasing Wolfie's importance, like putting him on the level of others. In short hes no longer a God. I then actually rewrote the stories to a point which hes mostly the support character, which you all will see clearly soon. It's hard to tell know in the current rp as he just pretty much entered. He still has his own story though.

I suspect that I haven't done it properly and I hope you all will tell me if I do something bad which leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I want to improve my story telling, which is why I'm asking this question.

You mean like I have been pushing Leb's character on a morel defining side-distraction wouldn't kill it a quest.

I can't find it anymore on the LPF, maybe you deleted it. It was one of the Kaethos ones if I remember right. I think I had an earthbender character. There was a battle and stuff and a guy who turned into a dragon or something. I don't remember it too good anymore, it was some time ago.

Anyway, I didn't do too many posts in it because at some point I got the feeling that my character had no impact on the RP whatsoever. All you did was telling a story you made up and my RP character ran around in there being a character of no importance. Me being not there would have made no difference at all, so I just stopped posting at some point. I think I even told you that in the OOC thread, but like I said I can't find the RP anymore.

If your BBEG is safe from all attempts at his life, you really need to rethink things anyway.
