Rei tilted his head slightly in response, largely because it seemed strange for anyone to leave the home without their wallet. Scanning Kiyoshi with his navy eyes, he suddenly realized how difficult it must have been to store one - especially given his clothing and their surroundings. Perhaps he might have insisted they eat somewhere, if not for the fact that "decent" restaurants had closed several hours prior.

A soft huff escaped him as he moved, contemplating his options. Silence hung between them for a second, only for him to smirk at the very thought of having someone to play shogi with - enjoy a cup of tea with. It was so rare, and it might have given him further insight into this eccentric ronin...

"If you don't mind following me to my home in the Meiji Ward, we could enjoy tea and a game of shogi? I may not be able to provide decent food, however..."

He twisted a lock of his dark hair around his finger, as the only food he actually had amounted to leftovers and packaged ramen. Usually Kumi assisted him with groceries, but there had been problems lately...

"That's fine, Your kindness is appreciated no matter how humble. It's not like i expect honors as a Tsujigiri." he chuckled scratching his chin in embarrassment. "I would gladly accept a game of shoji, and tea besides." he agreed to their arrangement. "You appear to be financially well off, are you from a rich family or are you a young entrepreneur?"

To Rei, it barely mattered. Being a tsujigiri or a ronin in the modern era was hardly a difficult life, at least when one used a bokken and had good intentions. Those very same values - the exemplary Bushido that so many samurai before had claimed to have and actually lacked - fascinated him to no end; how could he not invite such a person when they would inevitably make the night more interesting?

"Well, I would hardly consider your brand of it to be detestable."

Rei finally replied; at the very least, it seemed he hadn't wandered too far into Zetsurin - as the red-light district steadily gave way to taller and more impressive buildings. Chuckling softly and hollowly at Kiyoshi's response, he couldn't help but mask a slight look of confusion and intrigue. Even for a samurai such as him, it must have been impossible to avoid the pharma, right?

"My mother happens to be the founder of Nakura Pharmaceutical Company. Does that answer your question?"

Not content to be asked questions without gaining information in turn, the scion hastily added,

"And what of yourself? If I had to guess, I'd say you've been displaced in time itself."

He smirked and shrugged as he was praised clearly uncomfortable with the praise. he was very humble by nature, this praise and interest grated at him. those people he so crudely pummeled were human too, he was no hero just another violent thug. "I appreciate that, I am not worthy of such praise to be honest." he said with honest humility. "I see, so you are the scion of a rich corporation, not much to my interest. I am here to live by my own sword, nothing more." he shrugged. His brand of Bushido necessitated that he accept the other's kindness, if only so he could show kindness later.

"I am the scion of the akamine clan, their eldest son. As such i am the most important investment of my family." he said as he followed the almost apparent noble. "My family has taught me since i was old enough to walk." He said simply unhappy with how he appeared to rei. He was not exactly the picture of Bushido he would show such a man. but he was who he was. "i'll follow you tonight wherever you lead me." he said simply giving himself up to wherver the night would take him.

Rei took note of how the samurai seemed to react when faced with praise and frowned. The truth was that he had seen those people as sub-human, and if that was the case then the person who had eliminated them - even if it was only temporary - would have been an exemplary person indeed. The fact that Kiyoshi had done so without doing any permanent damage to anything more than their pride only strengthened his resolve.

"Is that so? Well, I'm grateful to have such a companion."

He murmured, and as they moved he mused about to himself about something - almost as if he chose to speak the second the thought came to mind. Much like everything else, Like everything that Rei did, though, it was a deliberate and calculated move - and the way he examined Kiyoshi thereafter would have probably given it away if the samurai was astute enough.

"I wonder if this is how our ancestors were."

He was, of course, referring to a name that his mother had all but forbidden in the house - and one that, despite his acceptance of anti-Japanese sentiment, read up on for its historical value. Explaining himself further as they came upon his building, a soft smirk settled into his features - though it was not out of pride for his lineage, merely interest.

"As much as she would like to deny it, my mother hails from the Takeda and Takenaka families. I suppose you could say she's a modern noblewoman, if you wanted to be so bold."

And yet instead of a fabulous manor, he'd been living in a penthouse. How bizarre that must have seemed - even though he didn't actually live with the woman anymore.

Kiyoshi sensed something was off about the way rei was addressing him. the samurai noted the praise being heaped on him was a little more than warranted. He was too calm to be grateful to be saved from danger; and yet, it could simply be genuine interest. He would be guarded but receptive to rei.

"Perhaps, i am not familiar with your lineage." kiyoshi admitted. "Were they a samurai family?" he asked, hoping he wasn't forgetting something so important. "I would imagine your mother to be a woman of supreme grace." He followed rei slowly and gracefully, not quite relaxing around this man.

The scion ran his fingers through his hair as they got into the elevator, then pressed the button with a look of mild curiosity. How was it that he - someone who looked and dressed like that - managed to avoid those two families? It seemed even stranger when it was a subject in history classes [albeit a glossed over one].

Before he could say much of anything about it, though, Rei erupted into a bit of uncharacteristic laughter - the sort that one tried to hold back; regrettably, it was only made more intense by that attempt, if a little hoarse and embarrassing. Quickly collecting himself after a moment or two, he explained:

"My apologies... I'm sure my mother would appreciate the sentiment, but living so close to her makes those qualities ones I've overlooked."

It was a least half-true, since recent events had made her a shadow of the person he remembered. Not wanting to think about that, he changed subjects. He leaned against the wall and started speaking, slowly and methodically so as not to omit any details

"The Takeda branched off from the Minamoto and ruled Kai Province, whereas the Takenaka became hatamoto under the Tokugawa Shogunate."

He wasn't sure how to continue, so he simply shifted his weight and waited to see what Kiyoshi would say.
