The bells have long since rung, and yet Ai still sits in her homeroom. Honestly, she doesn't exactly have a more interesting place to be. If not here, then where? The local cafe, or the courtyard with her camera? That's where she's been the past few days, and it's worn her down quite a bit. There's not much to do around the school set in a city of infinite possibility.

Fumbling about with her mechanical pencil, she stares down at the finished homework assignment in front of her. It isn't due for a while, but as we've established, there's nothing else for her to really do. Reclining in her plastic chair, she stares up at the tiled ceiling, letting out a long, airy breath. She swings the pencil in between her knuckles, and lets it drop to her desk with a light rattle.

There are very few students left in the room. Most of them have gone to the dorms, or to hang out with their friends, play games, all things that high school students tend to do. Ai doesn't really have a lot of friends. Well, to be quite frank, Ai has no friends, but the point still stands - she can can walk around with her camera, drinking coffee and ignoring the world, or she can wait for someone exciting to break this tedious silence.

Fluffing the sleeves of her sweater, she collapses into them with a sigh of comfort. If anything else, she could just take a quick nap...

"I never took you for one to stay for this long, Yukimura."

Aoki tapped away at his phone as he spoke, arguing with his friend Akihiko over whether or not he was going to come over later. Every time he seems to be finally finished to exit the room, another ding pops from his phone and the process starts all over again.

Bright sunlight pore through the windows - you could still see students playfully conversing outside, but it's been long enough that the bustle of the halls outside has long since passed.

"Heh, I don't normally stay this long, do I?"

Maybe she's overstayed her welcome? Shrugging, she stretches her arms and looks up to her teacher.

"I, uh, don't really have anything else to do, so..."

Resting her head on her hand, she pouts.

"How about you? You seem enamored by your phone, why not head out?"

She pauses, frowning, and speaks up.

"I'm not keeping you, am I?"

"You're not."

Aoki's response was blunt and to the point.

...On second thought, perhaps a little bit too blunt. His fingers paused just short of several seconds as silence filled the air.

"Today wasn't going to be a busy day anyway. Nothing hectic, and there isn't another appointment for at least another few hours." He said trying to get away with lazing around in his home all day instead of actually going outside to see them.

"As long as I'm here, you're welcome. That's all there is to it."

Aoki felt like Yukimura could use the reassurance. It certainly wasn't a very large cost to pay to help someone feel comfortable. This was his job as a teacher, to an extent.

"...Plus, you're not the one in the room least qualified to be here." He said, referring to the third-year student in the way, way back desk, who looked almost asleep while he had his music plugged into his ears.

Ai looks back to the student out of curiosity, but turns away when their eyes meet hers. Maybe she isn't ready to talk to complete strangers just yet.

"Ahh, right..."

She feels an almost kindred spirit with the random third year. Always lost, somewhat sleepy, completely oblivious to the world. Well, the last part isn't quite true, it's more like a feigned ignorance, but the point still stands. Turning back to the teacher and clearing her throat, she speaks up yet again.

"So, uhh... Can I turn something in early?"

Ai prepares mentally for the shut down, visibly shrinking into her chair. She winces to herself, wondering if she's overthinking it, but the irrational part of her wins out and she nods in affirmation to herself. It's best to fly under the radar.

Generally she seems to hate school, but boredom won out this time.

"Until the date it's due, it's your responsibility to keep track of it."

Kyousuke knew he would be bound to lose it if he held onto it himself before then. She can guarantee her not losing it much more than he can himself.

He scrolled through his phone, the text messages having slowed down a tad more since earlier. Reading through local news - some stock prices here and there, a recent movie that did well, skipping over things like this Nothingness Curse that sounded like something out of a deceptive tabloid. Something like that shit coming up would be the bane of common sense. Even more so than this school does already.

God knows why Akihiko keeps trying to pull Aoki into it.

Ai pouts, scowling at the teacher, but gives up quickly.

"Ya know, you should probably just capitulate to whoever's arguing with you. You'd have long left this classroom if it wasn't important, yeah?"

She chuckles to herself, the thought of her teacher being coerced by some shady businessman crossing her mind.

"Hell, if it's a friend of yours, it'd be a nice gesture, and I'm sure they'd appreciate it, right?"

Ai really has nothing else to do, so she succumbs to her overly curious nature, peering into his life for little more than entertainment. Sure, she likes to help people, but he's an adult. It's not like he really needs advice.

Shoving the paper into her bag, she moseys over to the empty desk just in front of his, taking a seat.

"I'm not in the mood for running around all day. I have enough work as it is already."

He would much rather have time to himself on days like this. A quiet evening with nobody but himself. Even when he cared he would be likely to find the company of others just as irritable as enjoyable, depending on his mood.

...Actually, he was beginning to wonder when Yukimura would go back to the dorms. Surely she couldn't plan on staying here until night.

Ai definitely felt that her company wasn't exactly welcome, and while it made some sense, she believes that it's part of his job to talk to his students.

Not only are they spending an entire year together, but teachers can't just read out of a book - they have the future of their students to worry about, and shoving them away is the last thing he should do.

At least... pretend to care.

"Hey, if you want us to leave, just say so, Teach."

Ai's voice was uncharacteristically heavy and forced, completely lacking the airy nature it normally would hold.

"I told you already. I'm fine with you here, aren't I?"

That was the truth, strange as it may seem.

"Frankly, I'm more confused by why you choose to be here to begin with. I'd expect people of your age to be going out with friends or locking yourselves up in a room with games."

That too, was the truth.

He didn't mind having a quiet hour in here with his students at all, so long as he could relax. But more than anything else he was confused at why someone would simply choose to be here in the first place.

"To be blunt. I just don't understand why you would spend it here of all places. You could probably spend your time with someone more interesting than me."

Aoki didn't consider himself to be someone worth talking too at all. He was content with that kind of a life.

But then, why would someone choose to spend it here? There was nothing to do to someone who cared more than he did. It was more baffling than irritating? Was he expected to say something? What would he even say to begin with?

So, he scrolled through his phone instead of thinking too hard about that.
