With her suitcase at her side and her camera around her neck, Ai looks at the door in front of her. Emblazoned on the wall just adjacent, the number '101' can be seen. Ahh, the joint female dorms. Ai's never lived in the dorms, nor has she ever lived with anyone that isn't related to her by blood, so suffice it to say she's quite nervous. Not to mention, Ai's slightly less than straight, and if the school were to know about this, they'd probably shove her back into that lonely, solitary room back in the single's dormitory. To her, it's worth the risk. Ai's not stupid... she knows she's in a rut, and she's well aware of the consequences of the great fall - she needs to make friends, and get her shit situated, or else things could get worse for her and anyone left who still cares. Ai fumbles with the chocolates in her hand, hoping that it'll be a good gift for her room mate... 'Mikoto', was it? She's been running the name in her head all day to ensure that she won't fuck up her important first impression. She uses her free hand to knock on the door, hoping that Mikoto is in right now. |

The ceiling was being especially quiet today, as it rejected all of MiMi's attempts at engaging it in conversation; she'd thought some small-talk could get the ball rolling, beginning with a sampler of banal conversation topics like the weather, any recent goings-on, or whether it had recently acquired a new coat of paint? When the ceiling didn't answer these prompts, she'd turned the conversation to something with a bit more substance, like how the school year was treating it, and if the dorm's occupants were taking care of it. Its silence was deafening, she must have hit on a sensible note -then again- she could have also touched upon subjects that it wasn't especially interested in discussing. It was hard to tell with inanimate objects, they had a tendency to keep to themselves, but the walls would sometimes speak... if not in their voice, it'd be in those of their occupants. While the Mishima dorm walls were not-exactly paper-thin, MiMi -and her contemporaries- had a habit of making themselves known. And it seemed she was slipping into that habit once again, with Heiwa. She wasn't crazy, she knew that the ceiling would never reply back, and would have been -frankly worried- if it ever did; it provided a distraction from that part of herself, though it was proving to be an ineffective nature. For all this talk about 'being her best', she'd shown to Heiwa a side of herself best kept hidden, and ever since their meet in those flowerbeds, she'd been unable to keep up her usual self around him. It wasn't about love -she said to herself-, wistfully looking up at the stark white ceiling looking down on her, but she'd yet to open up to someone else quite like that... She let out her frustration in a long protracted sigh, her lips fluttering as she attempted to exhale through her closed mouth. "Yeah -no- this isn't doing it..." it wouldn't be so simple -she thought-, she couldn't let-go as easily as she could draw breath -no- what she needed now was a distraction... and it seemed to her it arrived in the form of someone rapping gently at her dorm room door. Sidling slowly to the door, she felt herself propelled by equal parts curiosity and excitement -as well as the natural imperative to open one's door-, her timid steps followed one after the other in a reserved gait, almost tremulous in their guardedness. Closing near the door, she pulled back on it and into the room; within, two beds, a writing desk and cabinets between both of the beds, a small -but serviceable- closet was integrated into the wall, and while not pressed to do so, MiMi had gone through the trouble of cleaning out her room today. She shot a quick glance at the girl out in the hall, Her heart-shaped face was framed on either sides by bangs ofmessy brown hair, though she herself wasn't disheveled. She seemed to be struggling with some manner of candy in her hand, prompting MiMi to hold out her hand and help her with her briefcase. "Oh! sorry about the wait, I-uh- don't really have an excuse..." she started awkwardly, before her face settled into a simple smile. "Lemme help you with that... she immediately interjected, as he eyes flitted down toward the girl and her belongings. Was she here about the room? Sure, it'd make for a nice change of pace, having had the doubles room to herself for all this time, she could do with the company... but what sort of person was she? |

Ai's face lights up as she meets her new dorm mate. While she was well aware that this was a girls dorm, she's more than happy to have a girl to be friends with. She shuffles the box of chocolates in her hand, holding them out to her new room mate. Ai handles the suitcase herself, not wanting to have her carry the heavy stuff. Here's to hoping it'll be a friendly experience! "Heya! I'm Ai, and you're... Mikoto, right? The chocolates are for you! I wanted to get a gift for you, given that I'm your new room mate, but I didn't really know what to get you... Oh, and I hope they let you know I was coming today, right? If not... She scowls, already somewhat fed up with the school, if not for the loneliness, then for the reason why she's here in the first place. Clearing her throat, she continues. "Aaanyways, I hope I'm not in your way! I'll try to keep to myself and I won't be a burden on you, I promise!" Her voice is quiet as always, a sort of innocent nature to it, but the smile on her face is genuine, if not a bit anxious. She bows a few times, then uses her free hand to move her bangs out of her face. |

(Well, she seems friendly...) she thought, as she slowly pulled the door in from ajar to fully open, she saw the new arrival fumble through the chocolates as she steadied her briefcase. Mikoto had been expecting the briefcase, so the sudden shift didn't go too well as she dove into and across to the other arm holding up the candy. Nearly barreling into Ai by accident, she caught herself just shy of headbutting her as Ai gave the occupant of room 101 a polite bow. Embarrassed, she took a step back, letting the new occupant survey her would-be surroundings... that is if she didn't decide then and there that maybe living in the dorms wasn't looking so hot after the bungled introduction. Trying to put her best foot forward, MiMi put the chocolates on the edge of her bed before helping usher Ai into her new accommodations, all the while wondering if she'd forgotten about the new room mate or if the school really hadn't let her know beforehand. She was sure something/or other had been told to her -at a time-, but with this being her last year of high-school, and doubling down on school as well as her club activities... that it was simpler for her to believe she was the one at fault. But with how apathetic the school heads had been acting lately, she couldn't help keep some small amount of skepticism about the whole situation... still, Ai was here. "Oh! N-not- at all, I was just a little spaced-out." she said in reply to the girl implying she was being a bother, truly she wasn't. But was having trouble conveying this more out of the awkwardness of the encounter... and the fact she hadn't wholly stepped out of her funk. (This would be less awkward if the ceiling had answered...) she grimaced internally, while helping Ai into the room. "I'd offer a tour, but we'd be at the end before I even started it." she added, trying to inject a bit of humor to liven things up. The room was small, but serviceable for two people... as long as Ai didn't bring more than a couple of trunks worth of clothes, the two could conceivably fit their home-away-from-home in this space. "So, what class will you be joining?" |

Ai watches in amusement as her new room mate clumsily grabs the chocolate, coming dangerously close to Ai's face. Not that she really minds, Mikoto is cute and all, but that would be far to awkward of a situation for their first day meeting each other. She laughs at Mikoto's attempt at humor, a quiet, slight airy chuckle, and she deftly slides her bangs out of her face with the newly freed hand. "All's good. I really wish this school would take care of their shi- cough their crap. They said you are a third year, and then they proceeded to lecture me about how 'you're exceptional influence and a star role model', and that 'hopefully she'll rub off on you'. Suffice it to say, I'm a second year in class 2-B." Walking inside fully, she puts her stuff on her bed and sits against the wall, relaxing. "I've been living out of an apartment for a while, but the dorm life should be a bit easier for me, and financially, my parents. I didn't mind the train, but it did take up a good portion of time..." "...Anyways, which class are you in? Do you enjoy it here?" Ai seems genuinely interested, and despite her quarrels with the school's administration, quite open to hear how other people's situations differ from her own - and she's no stranger to the fact that her struggle is caused by herself moreso than by the school. The girl, who'd identified herself as Ai, settled into the bed opposite to MiMi's, her back slumped against the sheer white walls of the dorm. It was only then that she noticed the rather empty living space that MiMi kept around herself, ; her spartan accommodations being more a consequence of coincidence rather than design. Spending most of her time outdoors, or at club activities didn't leave much -of anything- for her to do at the dorm... still, the walls could stand to have a couple of posters put up. Shooting Ai a furtive glance, she pondered what sort of flair the second year might add to the room, or if -like her- she'd only use these accommodations as a designated resting place. "Yeah don't count much on that, if the faculty doesn't seem apathetic, you should see the poor students left doing administrative stuff." she mentioned off-handedly, though her tone remained aloof throughout it all, as though she were half-joking... but that other half still seemed to veer a little too much into the gloomy atmosphere that surrounded Mishima. This was something of a -recent- thing, or if it was always present, she'd only begun to notice as college entrance exams had become a 'thing' for her. Ai's talk about how the faculty had recommended MiMi caused her to break into chortles; it wasn't that she couldn't believe the words coming out of Ai's mouth, but rather that they'd chosen those words to describe MiMi. She could hardly keep herself in class as it was, and her grades -toward entrance exams- had begun to slip. That said... she remained singly focused on the one thing she had a vested interest in, dance club. Still, as she mimed waving Ai's words away from herself, in a dainty motion, she managed to stifle her laughter before looking back toward the second-year. "Sorry, it's just... to have the staff describe me in such a way... makes me think they confused me for someone else. " she showed herself to be in high-spirits in spite of herself, though. "I'm in 3A..." she answered rather succinctly, but her curtness was soon interrupted by her more jovial tone: "And -uh- don't pay attention to my bitter words, I'm just in a bit of a funk -is all-; this place is pretty great once you get situated. If you want I could show you around, and when we're done I guess I could give you a tour of the school." she added, flashing the girl opposite to her an impish grin. |

"Ya know, it would not surprise me in the least if they did confuse you for someone else. I mean - not that you're a bad student, but that they're not exactly on the ball. But yeah, I'm all for a tour!" Ai nods to her, glad that she's got a sort of kinship with her new room mate. She already knows her way around the school, but going on a tour would be something to do, and a good way to get to know her. "It'd give us an opportunity to find any common interests. I know you're leaving after this year, but I'm all for finding shit to do. Hell, I'm sure you know some pretty cool places around town as well, not just here." While she tried to keep her more carefree attitude to herself, it slips completely when she succumbs to the comfort of a dormitory relationship. It's obvious that Ai knows how to speak and act respectful, but that's too fake to be how she acts around her peer - someone she'll live with for the next year or so. After a brief pause, Ai responds to MiMi's request. "...and feel free to be as bitter as you want. I don't want you to be on guard around me. We're going to be living, breathing, eating in the same room for a year - just be yourself, and be comfortable. I don't bite, and I'm not going to talk about you behind your back or anything." Ai gives her a genuine smile back, as if to tell her that she's speaking the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Which, to Ai at least, is true. Ai doesn't like drama, and isn't one to stir up shit for no apparent reason. She reassures herself that this is the case, attempting to think back to the last time she caused any unnecessary drama, and finding very little. After the cursory character self-check, Ai rubs her eyes and stretches her arms out widely, yawning. |

"Strictly after-hours though, I'm all for a bit of truancy every now and then, but you want to at least show up and do the whole intro-thing in front of the class." her tone casual, her being entirely at home with the concept would've been distressing -one would think- were it not for a strange sort of bubbly sincerity that accompanied her every action. But there was a dual reason to this: when -else- if not now, could you get away with sneaking out of school? more over, what sort of performance can be expected of you, if you just don't feel like getting to class? "But alone-time... especially before mid-terms can be refreshing... aaaaand there's also this créperie I found, that opens during school hours." After all, what would be the point of skipping school without having a place to actually hang out? This conversation was more her speed, after the awkwardness she'd shown Heiwa, she was happy to settle into this 'self' of hers. Seemingly delighting in everything she did, providing agreeable company to others... (That's more like it.), she mused internally, seemingly confident that her acting was more in accordance to the person she thought herself to be; it seemed to MiMi that Ai was having a bit of an issue with this herself, she seemed to be flip-flopping from this more demure persona, to a more brazen her, maybe testing the waters before deciding whether or not she could open up to MiMi. (Well... I did say I was feeling out of sorts.) Ai was something else though, having only just met and making accommodations for MiMi? Without intending to, MiMi'd begun to slip. (Best nip it in the bud right now...) she grimaced internally, all the while keeping her cheerful expression. "Thank you, I appreciate it -really-, and -uh- don't worry about being on-guard with me around either. I owe you that much, no?" |

"Oh, that sounds tasty! Yeah, I'll try not to be, don't worry. It'll, uhh, just take a while. Nothing against you or anything! I just recently had a big, how do I say it, regime change? More like, the table that is my life got flipped, and I'm still trying to pick up the pieces. Nothing to worry about, we all have to worry about stuff like that." Ai tries to make it sound like a normal, 'coming of age' issue. It's still a touchy subject with her... It most certainly isn't a coming of age issue. She used to know exactly who she was. She was very comfortable with who she was, and she fit in really well. Things became really... messy. "And yeah, I can hang after hours. I don't tend to skip class all that much - I want to stay just under the radar, not smack dab in the middle of it, ya know? Coast through until I get shit handled." Her voice is still calm, if a bit more quiet than it had been moments ago. |

"Yeah, they have this uji-macha crêpe that I've been dying to try." she recalled a day in which she'd even waited until after-school to go to the crêperie, after having saved up throughout the week, only to find that the place had just run out of them. There was absolutely no saving that day, though fate brought relief in the form of this woman with very flashy clothing. She had an odd manner about her that seemed more at home with someone younger than she seemed, but MiMi didn't mind. (That stuff looked expensive though... maybe she was some manner of debutante?). Trying not to leave Ai hanging, she didn't allow herself to linger on her thoughts for too long, thinking it best to save these musings for later. "Yeah, it's a bit like what I'm trying to do, it's just harder with entrance exams coming up." she managed to keep her composure long enough not to let glumness taint her words; her command of herself (and senses) was such that she managed to both dismiss and make fun of her situation in a single statement. "But -uh- don't let me get you down, I certainly don't allow myself to." Not taking yourself too seriously seemed to be the running theme today, something Ai seemed to be keen on herself. Her first impressions of her new roommate were generally positive, and while certainly important... it'd be lasting impressions that would -ultimately- decide whether Ai -and her stay here- had been pleasant or not. "So, any clubs you'll be wanting to join?" the school had something of an unwritten policy about clubs, you needed to be in one... no ifs ands or buts about it. While there was no explicit rule that said you couldn't simply opt-out, Mishima had something of a reputation to it... it wouldn't do to have Mishima students lollygagging about. |
