He also wears a pair of silver glasses with rectangular lenses.
Backstory: Spoiler: click to toggle Ignazio Leone was born on the 6th of February in the Little Venice district of Aurelius. Both sides of Ignazio's family moved from Italy to America in the 1920's, due to the poor conditions of the time. His parents, Antonio Leone and Pietra Mantovani, were arranged to marry in their twenties before even meeting one another, resulting in daily arguments and a minimal amount of mutual trust. The one thing they had in common was their religion and ideals of parenting; both of them were raised in abusive Catholic Christian households and adopted the tendencies of their parents, such as forcing their left-handed son to use his right hand, reading through the child's journal and punishing minor misdeeds with savage beatings.
When Ignazio was ten years old, a playdate was arranged between him and a mystery girl of the Brunetti family to boost their relations with the Leones. The young lady who would meet Ignazio was Marcella Brunetti, the middle child of her siblings at eleven years of age. This new friend introduced Ignazio to Duel Monsters, and the two of them spent most of their time together dueling with Marcella's collection of cards. Upon being asked which of them was his favourite, Ignazio answered with Terrorking Archfiend. In accordance with the his reply, Marcella gave him enough cards to create a Chess Archfiend deck before they were separated by their respective families.
Later that night, Antonio and Pietra looked through the cards in their son's deck and were shocked by the quantity of demonic imagery inside. The following morning, Ignazio woke up and discovered that the gift he recieved yesterday was missing. He searched his entire bedroom before attemping to leave, only to find out that he was locked in. Meanwhile, as Pietra tossed her son's deck into the home's fireplace, a duel spirit resembling Terrorking Archfiend emerged from the flames roaring in pain and rage. Ignazio banged on the door and begged to be let out, but the only response he recieved was the distant screams of his parents. Confused, frightened and ultimately trapped, the boy had no choice but to stay put.
In its anger, the monster plunged two of its fingers into the woman's chest to tear out her still-beating heart. Afterward, Terrorking Archfiend turned around and removed the card representing it from the fireplace, dousing it with the blood that dripped from Pietra's heart to keep it from burning any further. Antonio looked on from afar as he began to dial for emergency services, but Terrorking Archfiend's horrifying gaze left him paralyzed. Suddenly, the spirit's chest opened, revealing a swarm of insects that flew out and attacked Antonio. Each of their bites removed a chunk from his flesh, resulting in a painful death.
Terrorking Archfiend's rampage continued, but was soon interrupted by a butler named Vittore Fontana. The man was accompanied by his own duel spirit, one that resembled the card "Honest." As the two monsters engaged in battle, Vittore noticed that two of his three masters were already dead, and that one was missing. Knowing that the child could still possibly be saved, Vittore ordered Honest to withdraw and form a barrier of light behind them. He then ran for the child's bedroom and knocked on the door, recieving no response from the other end. Then he attempted to get inside, but the door was locked shut. Seeing no other choice in this situation, Honest kicked down the door and searched for Ignazio. However, the boy willingly slipped out from under his bed and stood up, referring to the duel spirit as an "angel of death" and stating that he was ready to be taken away. Vittore, determined to save his young master, quickly grabbed Ignazio and fled the manor, leaving anyone else that could have been rescued behind.
Vittore and Ignazio then headed towards the former's house in the Floria District, which would soon become the latter's home as well. The now-unemployed butler explained the situation to Ignazio, who immediately questioned why he was the only person to be saved. Vittore answered that attempting to rescue anyone other than Ignazio could have endangered him, but the boy dismissed it as a blatant lie. Ignazio proceeded to live under Vittore's roof since that day, but he remained distant to his guardian for much of his childhood.
When Ignazio was thirteen, he witnessed a duel using the KaibaCorp Duel Disks for the first time in his life. Seeing cards come to life before his eyes left the lad awestruck, unable to look away from the fierce battle taking place before him. When the duel came to an end, Ignazio began to notice that the girl who won looked rather familiar. It quickly became obvious to him that this duelist was his old friend Marcella Brunetti, but she didn't seem to notice him at all. Wounded by this, Ignazio ran back home and begged Vittore to help him apply for the Academy of the Golden Dragon. Vittore accepted Ignazio's request, assisting him in creating a new Archfiend deck and guiding him through the application form. Honest attempted to inform the two of them of an unnatural force within the deck, but the duel spirit's warning ultimately went ignored. Ignazio then began walking the path of a duelist, hoping to regain Marcella's recognition by besting her in Duel Monsters.
As a beginner in the unforgiving world of Duel Monsters, life in the Academy of the Golden Dragon proved difficult for Ignazio. There was no one for him to rely on until he met his roommate, a girl named Jennifer Jefferson. Noticing that Ignazio struggled desperately to sleep at night, Jennifer introduced him to the practice of making jewelry with beads in an effort to ease his anxiety. The two of them became friends overnight, and Ignazio decided to pick up the craft as a hobby.
Three years later, Ignazio had improved greatly as a duelist, and his skill became recognized by students throughout the academy. Marcella Brunetti, who had earned the alias "Diamond Queen" due to her powerful Gem-Knight deck, began to hear rumours of Ignazio possibly rivaling her in Duel Monsters. Eager to prove them all wrong, Marcella challenged him to a duel, and invited nearly every other student in the academy to watch them.
Throughout the battle, Marcella's mind was clouded by how familiar Ignazio appeared to be. As the duel reached its conclusion, she had a clear advantage, and was only one attack away from being the victor. However, Ignazio swiftly began to turn the tide, taking control of her Gem-Knight Lady Brilliant Diamond and draining the girl's life points to zero in one turn, using her own monster to deliver the finishing blow. It was at that point when memories began to flood Marcella's mind, and the chant of "Long live the Daemon King" coming from the spectators filled the ears of both duelists.
Following the duel that brought their destinies back together, Ignazio and Marcella began talking to one another again. During the first conversation they had in six years, Ignazio discussed his hobby of making jewelry with Marcella and put together a necklace for her. Impressed by this gesture, Marcella suggested that Ignazio could make a living out of such a practice. They kept in touch even after they both graduated, becoming close friends and eventually lovers.
When Ignazio and Marcella were young adults adults, they worked together to create Brilliant Diamond, a business that started with just the two of them and became the largest jewelry company in Aurelius twenty-five years later. While they ran Brilliant Diamond together, they got married and had three daughters: Giovana, Rosabella and Camilla Leone. Recently, however, Marcella disappeared from the public eye entirely. According to the Leone family, she has simply fallen ill and is being treated at home.
Personality: On the outside, Ignazio is quiet and frigid; typically, he only bothers speaking to others when spoken to, or when he deems such a thing necessary. Reluctant to trust others, he tries to remain distant to his acquaintances in order to prevent himself from becoming attached. Beneath his cold, secretive exterior is a passionate, ambitious individual who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals and protect the Leone family. Though he claims to care deeply for his daughters, he is not often seen with them, and he rarely converses with them at all.
Despite being abused by a religious family, Ignazio remains a devout Catholic Christian. His favourite food is fried oysters. He enjoys romance novels, and reads them avidly. Ignazio is also obsessed with self-defense, specifically along the lines of martial arts and firearms.
Active Deck: Rather than his famous Archfiend deck, Ignazio currently uses a standard Igknight deck. Its main strategy revolves around overwhelming his opponents with Pendulum Monsters and then turning them into Xyz Monsters.
Duel Spirit: Ignazio possesses a duel spirit, but few know of its existence, and only he knows its true identity.
Other Details: Having been born left-handed and forced to use his right hand in childhood, Ignazio took advantage of this fact and trained himself to become ambidextrous. The man is also farsighted, and requires the glasses he wears to see.
