A plane touches down late at night at the Aurelius Airport bearing a high concentration of passengers. Some were coming for work, others for pleasure, and more still for a game.

Skye Burrow was here, for a game. He'd received a notice on social media about an upcoming tournament featuring duelists from all over, and the opportunity to see unique styles of game-play and summoning was too much of a draw for Skye, and so he had to go, much to his mother's chagrin. She practically screamed at him, the words still echo in his mind 'What am I supposed to do? Run the store by myself? Tch, like it'd be any different.' He'd smiled and kissed her cheek before heading down to the airport in Malibu. The whole flight over had been exciting, just him and his thoughts and hopes for what he'd find here.

As Skye steps off the plane and makes his way down towards baggage claim, he cannot help but bounce a little from his giddiness. This whole thing is just so exciting! After he collects his baggage, a large duffle bag full of clothes, a steel suitcase with his equipment, and a second leather suit case with his other belongings, he makes his way out towards the rental car zone, where a vehicle should be waiting for him.

Bruno, who fell asleep at 3, couldn't force himself to sleep any longer. The tournament was tomorrow, his first job. He was excited as well as nervous, though not bothered by his uncle's deluded Duel Spirit fantasies.

Bruno got out of his car. One of his friends in the dueling scene had alerted him someone with fair amounts of skill was going to be hunkering down on the plane any minute-- right on time, it'd just landed. He'd prepared himself with a little different setup than he'd gone to Chicago with, a more traditional version of his treasured Machina cards. He hoped to God Almighty that this fellow was just as good at Duel Monsters as the second-place winners of his tournament, what was it, yesterday? Might as well have been two days ago, as far as Bruno was concerned. It'd been that long. for him. Some tan fellow with strange bone-lookin' necklaces.

There he was, off to the parking lot. Bruno approached him, waving like an old friend, even the two had never met. Bruno was tried his damnedest to be polite, even if that sometimes rubbed people the wrong way. Once he'd gotten the fellow's attention, he offered his hand for a handshake.

"Hey man, Bruno Brunetti. Nice to meet you. Welcome you to Aurelius, Mr. Skye, I saw you post on social media and thought maybe score a duel with someone before I go take a nap, if it's not too late for you?"

Nailed it.

Skye had been just about to cross the street when the man, Bruno, had stopped him. He looks at Bruno and smiles, a genuine smile that reaches his brilliantly blue eyes. He responds in a voice twinged with slight accents all around, Hawaiin, Chinese, Californian, but 100% soothing and clearly enunciated.

"Aloha Mr. Brunetti. I find that dueling can really help get one sleeping, or to bring about a sense of invigoration. And at the moment, I could use the energy to make my way to the hotel."

He rests his duffle and leather suitcase gently against a nearby pillar, and opens the steel briefcase. Bruno might get a glimpse at the inside and see a top of the line duel disk and many, many duel monsters cards, neatly arranged inside. He takes out the disk, and selects a neatly arranged stack of cards, before sliding the deck into it's slot. He then attaches the disk, and seals the suitcase carefully before standing up and looking back at Bruno with that same, dazzling smile.

"Would you like to duel here, or do you have another place in mind, Mr. Brunetti?"

"Here is perfectly fine." Bruno said, taking his duel disk off of the strap on his back and putting it on. It looked extremely bulky, and to someone who wasn't familiar with Duel Monsters they'd likely think it was old-- The truth was, even earlier designs weren't this fabulously box shaped, the light blue hunk of lightweight metal was completely custom. It was expensive, and probably the only thing Bruno's pride would allow him to buy with his family's wealth. Taking his deck box off of his belt and inserting it into the duel disk, the duel disk shoved the deck completely inside and shuffled the deck with gentle precision, then ejecting the deck so Bruno could not see the bottom card, but enough so that he could draw the card.

"You can go first if you want, man. In fact, I'd prefer it-- I need to get in the right mindset, you know what I'm saying? It's been a while."

By a while, Bruno had meant around 28 hours. Which for Bruno, was 'a while.' Bruno however, needed to see a bit of cardboard shenanigans before he fully could wrap his brain around a potentially stupid and misleading statement like that.

Skye smiles at Bruno and activates his duel disk creating a large holographic black blade with a red border.

"Then let us begin."

He draws his hand and smiles once again and dramatically places a card, and then another.

"I special summon Primitive Butterfly! And then I'll normal summon Red Resonator. I'll then activate Primitive Butterfly's effect, increasing it to level six!"

Skye then extends both arms outwards, palms facing upwards. He closes his eyes and then starts to sway side to side rhythmically. As he does, his Red Resonator cackles and taps it's tuning fork, creating a low pitched tone. Skye then begins to dance in place a little bit and then does a spin ending with his back to Bruno, and his fingers pointing upwards, he then turns his head to look towards Bruno, rotating his upper body as he does.

"Synchro summon, Blood Mefist!"

The resonator makes several sounds with it's tuning fork before transforming into several green rings that zip around before creating a sort of tunnel the the butterfly proceeds to fly through. Once it's gone into the rings the butterfly and the rings are enveloped in light, and when the light fades, a dapper looking gentlemen has replaced them.

"And with that, I'll end my turn."

Bruno's duel disk lit up-- it had all of the latest gadgets and doodads, possibly because of tournament money, probably because his family was filthy rich.

Bruno drew for his turn, looking at his cards. Not a perfect hand, but still salvageable. He still drew into enough to deal with that Blood Mefist and keep his field. Unless his opponent had a card that could be used from the hand, he'd be ready for the next turn, too. After a short moment of considering his possibilities, apparently lost in his own world of thought, he seemed to come back to reality, lifting his head like a robot who just got plugged in.

"Alright! I'm gonna summon my Machina Gearframe, which'll let me search out a Machina monster from my deck!" Bruno slapped down his card, an orange-and-white thin robot appearing, making some sort of quick-paced beeping, his single eye flashing fast.

"I'm gonna add Machina Fortress to my hand, and summon it by discarding Machina Megaform-- I have to discard 8 levels worth of Machines or more to summon from the hand or grave, man." The light blue machine appeared from a pile of scrap, bursting out. It was a fairly large monster, at least 6 feet wide, if not more. Bruno realized his mistake very quickly-- He could have discarded his Fortress with his Scrap Recycler. Slightly frustrated with himself, he kept going. He knew that wouldn't stop progress this turn.

"Now I'm going to battle phase, and I'm going to attack your monster with my 2500 attack Fortress-- And I'll take 300 damage." Two blows exchanged, and Blood Mefist was the clear victor.

"When my Fortress is killed in battle, however; I can destroy a card on the field, and I'm not going to destroy my Gearframe, if you're about to ask." The cannon on Fortress fired a surprise attack at Blood Mefist before fully shutting down.

"Then, I'm gonna attack you directly with Gearframe, and set a card, and uh, that's it." Bruno said, shrugging. He was nervous-- He knew this guy was good, so there was probably another play up his sleeve. That wasn't what he was nervous about, however-- he was nervous that he DIDN'T have another trick up his sleeve, and he'd go home unsatisfied.

As his Blood Mefist is destroyed by Machina Fortress' ability he crosses his arms in front of him to shield his eyes from the explosion.

"That was very well done Mr. Brunetti, I'll take my turn now."

Skye draws a card and smiles a bit.

"I activate the spell card Reinforcement of the Army! This allows me to add one Warrior Type monster from my deck to my hand. Then I'll play the card I just searched! I summon Goblindbergh! And I'll activate his effect to summon an additional monster! Synclone Resonator!"

He shuffles his feet and spins before going into the same pose as before. As he does, his resonator makes several sounds with their tuning fork.

"Synchro summon! Hi-Speedroid Chanbarider!"

After he calls that out his resonator transforms into several green rings which then form a tunnel of sorts that his Goblindbergh proceeds to fly through. Once it is within the rings it is engulfed in a bright light and when the light fades, a strange robotic being shaped like a sword reveals itself.

"Now I'll attack your Gearframe! This activates my Chanbarider's effect! Increasing it's attack points by 200!"

The sword grows slightly and then rockets forward, skewering the Machina Gearframe and inflicting 400 points of damage to Bruno.

"And now, I'll attack you directly with my Chanbarider! As it can make two attacks each turn!"

The sword darts forward and skewers Bruno, inflicting 2400 damage to him.

"And with that, I'll end my turn."

"Well. uh-- ow?" Bruno looked down at the hologram that pierced his chest. That single phrase was a bit of a time-stall, because Bruno wanted to do a little math, and he'd figured he had about a 60 percent chance of drawing a level 4-- Without that, he'd have to risk slamming another Fortress into Chanbarider, and that'd cost more life points, waste his turn, and use up his hand. He wanted to keep that cannon in case he could go for a Rank 8.

Bruno's mind had already warmed up, and these thoughts raced through his mind in a matter of a couple of seconds, almost instinctively. He drew his card, and smiled. He didn't have to go for Tin Goldfish-- the rank 8 he'd wanted fell right into his hands.

"I'm gonna normal summon a second Gearframe, and I'm going to search out Machina Cannon this time, which lets me discard one or more machine type monsters to special summon it. It gains 800 for each card discarded-- But I'm gonna discard Tin Goldfish for Machina Cannon, I think." Bruno said, dropping the card into his graveyard, a blue legless fellow with a massive cannon strapped to his back materializing. "Well, anyways, I'm discarding the a Scrap Recycler to summon another one, and XYZ summon." Bruno summoned an identical monster. The two turned into a vapor and went into a portal in the ground, a floating swordsman backed by the specter of a dragon popping out. "It's Divine Dragon Knight Felgrand time, baby! I'm going to detach one of my Machina Cannons, and negate the effects of your Chanbarider-- But no other effects affect it until the end of this turn. That doesn't matter though, I'm attacking it with Felgrand right now, man!" The sword of the knight pierced the sword-ship, and Bruno felt like doing a little dance. He didn't though, because he thought that would be really weird.

"I'm gonna attack with Gearframe, and I'm gonna end my turn." Bruno said, the orange machine approaching Skye and performing a jump kick.

If Skye were wearing shades he would have taken them off to get a better look at that portal.

"Xyz summon?" He'd never heard of it before now, it looks super cool! He barely notices as his life points are reduced by the destruction of his Hi-Speedroid and the direct attack from Gearframe, his focus entirely trained on Felgrand.

"Wow..." he says in little more then an awed whisper. After a moment or two, he realizes that it is his turn. "My move."

He draws a card, it isn't anything particularly useful, so he'll need to try and stall. "I'll set this monster in defense mode, and then set this card face down and end my turn."

A trap card? Bruno didn't like trap cards, they stopped his hardcore beatdown strategies. That's why he'd set this card beforehands.

"Alright, then I'll activate Trap Stun on my turn-- Trap cards simply don't work this turn." Bruno thought for a second. He didn't think this fellow ran any flip monsters, so he'd be fine. "I'm going to attack your face-down monster with Gearframe."

Mirror Resonator was destroyed. Bruno checked his screen to read the card. The card would set up his opponent for a free Synchro play next turn. He was excited to see what his opponent would play on his next turn.

"I'll attack directly with Felgrand, and end my turn."

His opponent had 800 lifepoints, and he had 4900. Bruno had no doubt a duelist of his opponent's caliber would be able to stage a comeback.
