Some dwarven miners have discovered one of the most powerful relics of the Gods buried deep inside the mantle of the Earth - the Golden MacGuffin. The MacGuffin's power is simply that everyone wants to hold it. Only the most powerful of Gods are immune to this magic - everyone will want it, until it is destroyed, but of course nobody wants to destroy it. It was created by the evil sorceress Rose White over a millennium ago, but banished by her rival, a witch named Red Poppy, to the depths of the Earth. Now its magic has returned to the world, and all the world's armies are making for the mine as fast as possible. Knowing this, the dwarves have placed the MacGuffin on a big alter outside the mine, ready to be claimed by the first ones who come past. In this RP, you will control one of the nations of Fantasy Pluviostan. To participate, just start posting. Make sure to include a brief description of your nation and how it attempts to retrieve the MacGuffin in your post. Also, include notes on the terrain and local people just in case the MacGuffin winds up in your lands. Allowed: basic magic (creating fireballs and the like), general fantasy monsters (dragons, goblins), cool castles, impressive empires and masses of men. Disallowed: OP magic (spells that teleport the MacGuffin right to you, impenetrable barriers etc), OP monsters (literally summoning Gods to fight for you - although a God might grant a character some minor blessing), and generally playing unfair (give everyone a chance to get at the MacGuffin). For roleplay purposes, the winner of conflicts will be adjudicated by a simple die roll if there is any dispute (but players are encouraged to be humble concede defeat if they can see the other side would probably win). Edit: Feel free to join in and have fun!

"'d better get outta 'ere, Krust." Coldwind added after some coughs, walking from side to side with his robe flattering in wind. "Pointy-eared 're waiting to yer back." Then he raised himself on the main tank and shouted "SAIL!" to the zeppelin. The work was done while he did this small, ahem, distraction. One swift move ─ and the MacGuffin was freed from the dead elf's hands. Another one ─ and it was thrown into the main tank. When dwarfs reached their vehicles, armored doors shut. Zeppelin was dragged down and as the upper hatch of the tank was opened and an iron cage went down and up on a metal chain, MacGuffin had found its way to the flying craft, which released any remaining bit of the ballast to ascend upwards, its anchor remaining attached to the main tank on a loose rope. Wind was blowing at all the sails of the flying ship. Tanks turned where they were and raced away from the fire, their stokers falling, being dragged away, refreshed and getting back to work. |

"Hey, hey, hey, now wait a minute!" Krust said as he begun running alongside the tank, "What about 'r deal? I got the MacGuffin, and in exchange you got to, er..." Krust looked to the ground, wondering, before raising his head again, "Well, now that I think about it, you never specified your desires. But I reckon that the MacGuffin is not one of them, right? What about, you know, human honour and all that?" "Yeah!" Another, older orc said, clutching at the corners of the tank, "W'rn't we s'ppoused to git the Macaggin and show that we were the rul'rs of dis land?" |

It took a while to respond. The zeppelin was sailing away at full throttle. In a spectacular demonstration of his supreme tactical genius and superb command and control ability, Coldwind perfectly snatched MacGuffin without a single casualty ─ truly magnificent work of his majestic mind! Or that's what he wanted to think, of course. He didn't even used his caster abilities as much as he used the raw might of his machines, nor there were any "tactical genius" and "majestic mind" around in a dumb pursuit. The mage was now concerned with saving his own life with an artifact heading towards the safety of the Silverstream, from which there was a straight lane to the Hellforge. With all the joy and worry, he totally forgot the deal. He could now try to fight orcs toe to toe if not the fact all cannons ammunition was wasted ─ and the concern for his own life, of course. But he wasn't willing to give it up either so his brain was frantically trying to make a solution for this situation. He wouldn't give it up. Nor would he attack them head-on. Was there any other option? "Lord Coldwind?" An officer pushed him slightly, presenting him a bottle of ale. "Care to drink with us for our victory?" "S-sure... Prost!" "Prost!" And with all the clanks of bottles and all the ale, Coldwind voiced his thoughts. "Can we fight orcs right now? Do we have enough shells to fight our way back and not alow this thing to fall into Hugo's hands? And why did none of you reminded me of the deal?!" As everyone glanced on each other, they had a realization of a delicate state they are now, without shells and still having to face about a hundred of orcs claiming their thing. Only now, near the certain victorious end. "We can't fight, Lord Coldwind, because we have nothing with which to fight! I suppose we adhere to the deal..." "NO WAY!" Someone else shouted. "Right now, with the victory in our hands!.." "This won't be a victory without our heads on our shoulders!" "They won't break our armor!.." "But tracks!.." And so on. This rattle could turn into a scrimmage, if Coldwind hadn't intervened. "SILENCE! We'll adhere to the deal!" "B-but my lord!.." "I said they will get the MacGuffin from us..." He made a dramatic pause. "...but I have never, never said we will help them to hold it!" Through ale it took some time for the thought to reach their heads. Meanwhile, Coldwind redirected the zeppelin to drop MacGuffin at orcs' initial camping place and say "Get to your camp and have it! We adhere to our deal of our honor!" Just as he shut the speaking pipe, his henchmen started their applause to him and to his genius. The true Battle for the Golden MacGuffin was just beginning. (OOC: Might do a bit of a retcon and clarification of dwarf lore before or after a new year; especially what dwarf armor is. This won't affect anything in and about the story, though, because of the reference magic) |

"Oh, that's what I like to hear!" Krust said, slowing down and glancing at the sky, grinning as the dirigible moved to the camp. All the orcs stopped and cheered. Axes were raised in victory as laughs and songs were shared. "WE DID IT, BOYS!" The king exclaimed, running below the zeppelin, "WE BECAME LEGENDS!" "There wunt be a s'n'le orc out there wurth hiz value who wunt join uz now!" An energetic orc cheered, "For da keng!" "For da keng!" Various orcs exclaimed, as they reached their old camp. Barely a day had passed; The great pire was still burning, the huts were still standing, the slaves remained chained and shivering. The rum reserve was also there, but it wouldn't last for too long in these conditions. Meanwhile, the drow scout group had reached the beaches from where they had first come from. Imhrys' gaze was lost on the horizon; The reinforcements were suppoused to arrive at dusk if the winds favoured them. But as of now, this wasn't just an incursion; It was an invasion force. The mages have been in contact with the capital, and it appears that almost the entirety of the dominion's army and fleet is being brought for this. Seven thousand and five hundred soldiers, together with a regiment of two thousand archers and sixty battlemages, were sailing the seas aboard fourty ships. The plan was more or less set; Get to Silverforge, close down the main, well-known gates, scout for other secret paths and close them down as well, starve the city, and then invade it. Drows had some experience with underground warfare, though Imhrys feared that not as much as the dwarves did, given the fact that the dark elves were relatively peaceful among themselves and civil wars were unheard of. Meanwhile, Dantras sighted the zeppelin taking the MacGuffin away from the main force. "What are they doing?" A scout whispered, above the trees. "We don't know" Dantras said, "Assuming too much lead us to this disaster. Let's follow the dirigible" And they did so, swiftly moving among the branches and leaves, following the dirible and it's most valued treasure. |

Wildfire soon consumed everything that was left on the battlefield and failed to retire. The zeppelin had ventured to a giant rectangle cliff from which a river flowed through a dam flanked with two towers with gates. 200 meters up from the dam was a rectangle cut, where the craft was pulled after some time and efforts. Then the large opened barn gate made of steel slowly shut. It was the Silverstream Dirigible Base. Right behind the dam was the town of Silverstream, 1500 inhabitants. Meanwhile, Coldwind returned to his departure point, the Ironstream. Hugo was already waiting him with other type of tanks, more of a tank instead of a moving fortress. And from what Coldwind could see, he wasn't that happy. "I demand explanations, Coldwind!" He said in a scolding tone. "I was trying to get MacGuffin with my own forces so I haven't broken my promise." Coldwind replied. "And I won't cease trying until it is mine." "You have loaned a dirigible from the Silverstram Base." "But I could loan that one, right? I remember the contract we have signed when I helped yours to get to the diamond mine at Eversmile." "Deus with Eversmile, now others will think that MacGuffin is ours!" "It isn't and I will have them knowing that, Hugo! I just need more men to hold on to it!" Hugo sighed from his chagrin, spit and said "Leave your tanks here and get to the Silverstream. I will leave you a square there. And make absolutely, yes, a-bso-lu-tely sure this thing will ultimately be in our possession." "Y-yes, my lord." He bowed. Hugo then left back to the Silverforge, while Coldwind left to the Silverstream, leaving his tanks in the city for resupplying. |

King Eric the Wise was meditating in his study when Princess Georgia burst into the room. "Father! I just had the most terrible dream." "It was no dream. It was another vision." "So my brother is really..." "I am afraid so. We shall mourn him." A silence came upon the room carved into a giant tree. After a moment, Georgia embraced Eric and the pair hugged quietly. "Now the assassins will need a new leader." "Nobody can replace my brother Lachie. He was the strongest and most athletic of all the elves in our tribe." "This is true. But in the meanwhile, we have other options at our disposal. What about your sister Olivia?" Once again there was a pause. Outside, some birds chirped. "I suppose she's already on her way" said Georgia. "It will not be long before the assassins are able to regroup" replied the King |

OOC: I take it that it won't be seen as cheat-ish if tons of orcs join the horde now, right? I had stablished that something to that effect would happen (Orcs follow the strong, after all, and having the MacGuffin is nothing short of an achievement), but I just want to confirm. The numbers will be big - But we should remember that orcs are pretty dumb and generally don't use any tactic other than just running into the enemy, so going into the battle with some preparation should be good enough. |

OOC: And I'm deliberately leaving a lot of time because Olivia won't be joining the assassins alone...
