Some dwarven miners have discovered one of the most powerful relics of the Gods buried deep inside the mantle of the Earth - the Golden MacGuffin. The MacGuffin's power is simply that everyone wants to hold it. Only the most powerful of Gods are immune to this magic - everyone will want it, until it is destroyed, but of course nobody wants to destroy it. It was created by the evil sorceress Rose White over a millennium ago, but banished by her rival, a witch named Red Poppy, to the depths of the Earth. Now its magic has returned to the world, and all the world's armies are making for the mine as fast as possible. Knowing this, the dwarves have placed the MacGuffin on a big alter outside the mine, ready to be claimed by the first ones who come past. In this RP, you will control one of the nations of Fantasy Pluviostan. To participate, just start posting. Make sure to include a brief description of your nation and how it attempts to retrieve the MacGuffin in your post. Also, include notes on the terrain and local people just in case the MacGuffin winds up in your lands. Allowed: basic magic (creating fireballs and the like), general fantasy monsters (dragons, goblins), cool castles, impressive empires and masses of men. Disallowed: OP magic (spells that teleport the MacGuffin right to you, impenetrable barriers etc), OP monsters (literally summoning Gods to fight for you - although a God might grant a character some minor blessing), and generally playing unfair (give everyone a chance to get at the MacGuffin). For roleplay purposes, the winner of conflicts will be adjudicated by a simple die roll if there is any dispute (but players are encouraged to be humble concede defeat if they can see the other side would probably win). Edit: Feel free to join in and have fun!

OOC: Sorry if this post feels somewhat forced. I don't think I need to explain myself now. IC: Ignoring the happenings of his surroundings and fully inmersed in his orcish bloodlust, Krust let out a mighty warcry as he jumped on one of the trees receiving the "First aid", swinging his massive axe as he attempted to chop off one of it's trees. Inspired by this actions, several orcs attempted to do the same, either to the same tree or to the ones around it. The rocks, for now, hadn't hit anything important. True, orcs tended to be quite close to each other so a good ammount of them, maybe more than a hundred, had died already, but the core of the city lied at it's center (Orcs weren't particularly good city planners), and neither the MacGuffin nor the Shaman's tent was in any danger. As for the sneaking elves, they would find some trouble if they seeked to find the MacGuffin. While some did have more decorations than others (Which were then usually stolen or fought to the death for), there was no clear distinction of wealth, as stated before, and the MacGuffin lied in the King's tent, which didn't look particularly different from any else. As of now, no orc had found them. It was far away from the battle, so the orcs remained there, but during the cold nights, the orcs were either around the firepits, singing, drinking, eating and fighting, or in their tents. Meanwhile, an eagle looked at the conmotion from the skies. It's eyes didn't necessarely respond to the eagle itself; Once again, it was a group of drows that were looking through them. While the battle was something of note, something else caught their attention; A fiery bird in the skies, which then swiftly disappeared. "More mages..." A wizard whispered, "I wonder who it is now?" "Silence!" Another, older wizard reclaimed, seeking to mantain his trance. Silence was kept. Seeking to investigate more, the eagle flought around the border of the city, hoping to find new enemies, pushing the limits of the collective magic of the group until finally they gave up control over the bird, awakening from their trance with a headache. "Hmmph," A young one grunted, "Does anyone have some herbs?" "Yes, but first," Jenel intervened, "Did we discover the enemy?" One of them nodded. "I doubt they were in control of the bird," He said, "But as if it wasn't obvious enough, the tanks of the dwarves are marching against the orcs" "Yes, I was under that impression myself" Another wizard agreeded. "Very well," Imhrys said, sitting next to the rest of the wizards and carefully listening to the conversation, "If they want to diminish their own forces like that, they may do so. We won't attack yet; Take a rest, and go back to the observations" Sighing with relief, the mages quickly scrambled for herbs in the many satchels in the tent. EDIT: Spelling. I was, evidently, really tired when writing this. Edited by Area-569 the Second, Feb 4 2018, 12:52 AM.

Taiyoumori made his way out of his palace and into the glamorous cave system that was his keep. The cave system and keep was so large that it was a city in itself. He chose the caves for many reasons, the main ones being the natural marble interior, which they refined, its defensive properties, its little impact on the forest outside, the internal water system and the natural lighting system, through holes on the cave ceiling that they also refined. The cave systems were in fact a huge marble deposit but rather than exploit it, Taiyoumori and the elves refined it. They elegantly carved the walls, the pillars, the cave roof, even the roads and paths so that everything told a story. Some parts would tell the story of the city, others would tell the story of important individuals. But the most important story followed the main road, it told the story of their history. The undertaking was enormous, but art and history was very important to Taiyoumori. As Taiyoumori walked down the royal path towards the main road, looked up at the ceiling, never ceasing to be amazed by how lucky they were to have found a cave system that had light and water. The cave system had, in the beginning, many holes in the roof that allowed light to enter throughout the entire system. The elves reformed that though. They made them bigger and more frequent but reinforced them with design and magic so that nothing from the elements to animals to enemies could get in. Along with the natural light, there were many, many hanging crystals that eradicated pure magical light. They were found deep within the gem mines of the cave systems and brought up to serve as a light source. Along with the light, the water systems were special for they both allowed for the plants to grow and live down in the city. There were many waterfalls, rivers and streams that ran through the cave systems through underground water networks. A few lakes also existed as a result of all the water rushing about, most at the bases of waterfalls. Because of this, the elves rarely needed to leave the cave systems for anything and wouldn't if it wasn't for the rest of the empire that existed outside their walls. They had everything they needed from food to water to light to security, but they left for there was still the rest of their islands and their beauty to be enjoyed. To top it off, they knew that they couldn't just shut out the rest of their people. Taiyoumori stopped just before leaving the royal gardens. Rather than leaving, he sat down just off the path and began to gather his energy. Shortly he began to glow with purple energy and once he had gathered enough magic, he raised his hand. He traced out himself in his position in the air. With each stroke of his hand, a purple line would take its place. After a minute he was finished drawing himself and moved on to draw an elevated platform, decorated with images of pink(though it looks purple with the magic) leafed trees that hangs down with their branches, almost as if they were weeping. Once he had done that, he drew a line through the two images and placed his hand in the center. At once Taiyoumori disappeared and all that was left behind was a heavy magical aura. Taiyoumori had in fact teleported par away, deep into the mountains. Though, not on the mountains but inside, deep inside the mountains. Taiyoumori reappeared upon the very platform he had drawn, the one decorated with trees. Around the platform grew many of the very trees that were depicted upon it. Some were white while others were pink but all hung down as if they were weeping. They all funneled towards the center and made a ring around the only thing in it; a ball of light, cradled in pink and white petals. Taiyoumori got down on his knees and faced the light. He then placed his hands on the ground together and in front of him and bowed forwards. He remained like that for a little while before within his head he heard the light speak to him. It asked him, "Why have you come here emperor?" Without moving from this position, Taiyoumori responded, "I am here to ask you to return, your people need you, the MacGuffin has returned and the barrier can't stop it." "So it is true then, you can feel it. The islands are not strong enough. I had hoped that the islands would stop it again." "Yes we feel it and the barrier had worked for a while, but not forever. So I have come to ask you to return and take us to it so it can remain here and never hurt anyone again." The light sturred a bit before responding, "There have been many attempts to reawaken me before you, yet each have failed. You though, have found my reason to return. I will return you to your people, prepare young emperor for depart to retreated the MacGuffin at once." The light rose up from its bed of petals and began to glow brighter and brighter. Once it became too bright to look at it exploded out in all directions, sinking to the rock of the islands. The emperor could not see this, but the light's explosion erupted out and covered the entirety of the islands. The emperor, recovering from the blinding light, found himself disappearing and before long he was gone. He soon found himself back in his palace and quickly set about gathering his council. The islands appeared to change after the light touched them. Every single one of them seemed to rise, from the three major islands to the many minor islands. The inhabitants of the islands felt nothing though, for they were protected by the magic of the islands and by the magic of the light. As the islands rose higher, from underneath them rose a shell. A massive, single shell rose out of the ocean and with it the tortoise that called it home, Okinakame had returned. He was big enough to be its own continent if it remained still but this tortus had a mission. Once he was high enough in the water, Okinakame set off at great speeds towards the MacGuffin, knowing exactly where it was due to the great pull he felt from it. In mere hours they would arrive to begin what they set out to do. OOC: Could someone spot my, well, nation please? Preferably someone who would like to have an alliance with me because my characters will be trying to find a non violent way of obtaining the MacGuffin so they'll be looking to make friends or at least not enemies. OOC: My elf nation could potentially discover you later IC: The frenzied berserk axe-attacks of the orcs against the ents' magical hardwood were effective, and those orcs who were not caught in a tangle of branches managed to slice off some powerful limbs from many of the partially-burnt ents. Although this weakened the already-injured ents considerably, it also created a new problem for the orcs, as they came closer to the rampaging trees. The trees, both engaged in combating the fire and combating the orcs, would stomp down hard on any orcs who came near them, intending to crush them to a pulp, knowing that ents could sustain far more crushing damage than they could the slashes of axes. Meanwhile the elves moved up and over the walls like the dancing shadows of a fire, while the one elf watched for any signs of trouble from above. The elves moved quickly from tent to tent, some of the more magically inclined casting a simple Detect Magic spell to see if the MacGuffin was present, while some of the others were able to sleuth through the smallest tears in the fabric using their elven vision. |

While Coldwind was observing the battle ─ a boring deal, to be honest, ─ Firewind fully recovered. This time the plan, never discussed but unanimously approved, was to do the thing Firewind loved the best ─ tear the darkness with fire. She stood up, leaning on her staff a bit, brushed the dust from her robes and said "I'm ready, Archie. Let's light the night!" The mage, not taking his eye away from the battlefield, replied "Sure, go ahead. Need some cover?" "Try not to freeze me to death." She chuckled. Coldwind went to the highest point and pushed the staff into the barren ground, while Firewind sat back relaxed, her staff resting on her hips and her hand on her staff. Reginald the bear turned out to be a fine back pillow for her and it was now lying mostly because of a courtesy to her or to his master. The next moment, a circular barrier appeared around the hill, which went upwards into a mostly transparent cupola, slightly glowing bluish green. "The cover is set up." The mage reported dryly. "You may fire when ready." That being said, a bright bluish-orange light torn the darkness as the fire bird went upwards above the forest, setting some of the tallest trees afire. Behind it, higher and a bit astray followed twelve large spikes of solid ice-like matter, directed to hit ents. The bird, meanwhile, passed over the camp and started a circle around it, passing through trees and setting both them and the very soil near them on fire. Edited by Oriflamme, Feb 11 2018, 12:56 PM.

The orcs witnessed the fire reach the camp, making the soil they were standing in burn and the air they were breathing heavy and hot. "IT'S DA DEMONZ!" An orc shouted in horror. Yet another intervened, more positive; "They're here to fight against the trees!" She then pointed at one of the ents, and shouted, "HAH! NOT EVEN THE DEMONS LIKE YOU, PLANT-DEMONS!" Krust himself, worried about the consequences but deciding not to ruin such an opportunity, decided to attack any ent that tried to help another, burning one. Meanwhile, as the elves tried to sneak through the camp, one of them came across two orcs, drunk and brandishing their weapons. "OI!", one of them said, "You a slave? Why don't ya be a good lass" - In the orc's perspective, few elves could be considered to be masculine, regardless of their sex - "and bring me more ale?" The other one laughed, and said, "I kinda want yer meat, though. Didn't get to eat anything 'n last battle!" However, one of them was sober enough to take notice of some detail; Especifically, the elf's clothings and tools, much more than what any slave would have. "Er... Where did ya get those things, elf?" He said, holding his weapon with an iron grip. |

The elf, knowing they could hide in a shadow and move away unseen more quickly than an individual orc could ever follow them, crept away into the night. A faint whisper in the breeze informed the other elves of the position of the incident. The ents, somewhat protected against normal fire but not against magical fire, pulled back somewhat in shock. All they could do was try to avoid the flaming, circling firebird and throw up dirt to shield themselves. "This is no orc magic..." said Oldleaves, smelling the air. However very soon, the elf flying above the camp found themselves in danger of the creeping inferno. With a soft chant, they began casting a counterspell to turn the flaming bird into a stone statue. The ents had little reprive, though, as they were struck by ice-like flying spears of cold magical force. The spears lodged among some of their limbs, causing them to crack and freeze. A horrible groaning sound was heard, like the bending of centuries-old wood. The damage from the combined fire and ice attacks was substantial, but one had the impression that the ents would be able to rapidly recover nonetheless, unless they were finished off while they were down. |

As both the spikes and the bird crossed the wall, the orc runes acted. Coldwind felt a noticeable disturbance in his mind ─ and an incredible strain on the anti-magic barrier around them. Those two combined dissolved the barrier immediately and Coldwind's staff fell on the ground, hot to touch. Quite confused, he drank some water from his flask and glanced on the battlefield via his spyglass. He then wanted to warn his companion ─ but it was too late. The sudden failure affected control over the flaming bird for an instance, but elven spell failed to get the bird immediately. However, Firewind noticed it to become harder to maintain. In fact, small blue-hot rocks chipped away from the bird as it was doing its third circle around the camp. Damn, guess it's time for Plan B... She thought. ...and do I have a Plan B? She hadn't. Regardless of that, the bird rapidly went upwards, still blue hot and shining brightly with stones chipping away from it ─ and then plummeted within the camp, disintegrating upon impact into several dozens chaotic bursts of flame and a large, bright and strong fire right at the epicenter. Coldwind, noticing it, shouted "STOP!" ─ and was late for a moment. And the barrier was dropped. The sorceress screamed with an inhuman voice and rolled on the ground, her mind clouded with terrific hallucinations of orcish misery. For some seconds she was pounding the land in convulsions and screaming. In her last blink of consciousness she heard the imperative voice in her head resembling Coldwind's one: "DARKNESS BOLT". And she blindly launched a short and unstable bolt of raw dark magic, cleansing her mind of the effects of that terrific spell. It hit the sapphire in Coldwind's staff, which refracted the unfocused bolt causing it to harmlessly dissipate. The sorceress, although no more influenced by the spell, fell on the ground, pale and unconscious. The beautiful fire was lighting the darkness around it. The dark magic disturbance could be well felt around the hill. Edited by Oriflamme, Feb 13 2018, 05:29 PM.

OOC: Don't mind me, just trying to breath some life into this forum to make sure that newcomers don't think we're always this inactive. IC: While the orcs continued their mindless assault, some of them occasionally burning to death due to the fire but still overall cheerful after having witnessed the "Demon's" intervention, the two drunk orcs facing the elf took out their weapons, drunk but rageful and quite aware of what just happened, as they shouted (Or rather screamed); "THIEFS!" As one of them put it, "THERE ARE ELVES ON 'R CAMP WHO TRY'NA STEAL 'R STUFF!"! And the other one, a bit louder, simply shouted; "RAISE THE ALARM!" Indeed, the orcs of the surroundings woke up from their slumber, rising and coming out of their tents to find the intruders. The camp, now on alert, was bustling with activity, as the orcs roamed the lands carrying torches and axes and swords and ale, and more than a few slaves paid the price, being confused for the intruders, while a few of the dumber orcs fought among themselves as they accused each others of being elves in disguise, much to the amusement of the wiser orcs. |

Rather luckily, nobody seemed to have heard the flying elf's chant above the sounds of the battle. With a sigh of relief, the elf looked down to see the orcs in disarray, and the ents wounded. Realizing the elves could be more evasive than the ents could, the flying elf determined to aide them with another chant, this time a soft healing song. The ents continued to thrash about dangerously, relieved to be free from continued magical attack, but still contending with the heavy orcish axes and fire. Where once the ents had been dominant in the fight, now the elderly and injured trees were in something of a stalemate, holding the orcs back with violent thrusts of their branches, while doing what they could to heal. "The orcs must have an ally too" mused Oldleaves "That magic is more poweful than what orcs can do. Tell me who is responsible for this!" Although it was not clear immediately who he was talking to, a small flock of birds flew out from a nearby tree and began scouting around. |

OOC: Just for the record; Unless I especify otherwise, my orcs are doing the exact same thing against the ents. Tents have been destroyed already, of course, but that's not especially noteworthy. IC: As the orcs continued their patrols, one of them, clearminded, caught something in the corner of his eye. Quickly turning around, he quickly saw an elf, which just as quickly left the place with it's speed. "FOUN' ONE!" He shouted, attracting eleven other orcs to the place, "IT LEFT OVER 'ERE!", he showed, pointing at the place he believed he saw the elf, which the rest followed, regardless of the possibility that the elf had already escaped by then. |
