Some dwarven miners have discovered one of the most powerful relics of the Gods buried deep inside the mantle of the Earth - the Golden MacGuffin. The MacGuffin's power is simply that everyone wants to hold it. Only the most powerful of Gods are immune to this magic - everyone will want it, until it is destroyed, but of course nobody wants to destroy it. It was created by the evil sorceress Rose White over a millennium ago, but banished by her rival, a witch named Red Poppy, to the depths of the Earth. Now its magic has returned to the world, and all the world's armies are making for the mine as fast as possible. Knowing this, the dwarves have placed the MacGuffin on a big alter outside the mine, ready to be claimed by the first ones who come past.

In this RP, you will control one of the nations of Fantasy Pluviostan. To participate, just start posting. Make sure to include a brief description of your nation and how it attempts to retrieve the MacGuffin in your post. Also, include notes on the terrain and local people just in case the MacGuffin winds up in your lands.

Allowed: basic magic (creating fireballs and the like), general fantasy monsters (dragons, goblins), cool castles, impressive empires and masses of men. Disallowed: OP magic (spells that teleport the MacGuffin right to you, impenetrable barriers etc), OP monsters (literally summoning Gods to fight for you - although a God might grant a character some minor blessing), and generally playing unfair (give everyone a chance to get at the MacGuffin). For roleplay purposes, the winner of conflicts will be adjudicated by a simple die roll if there is any dispute (but players are encouraged to be humble concede defeat if they can see the other side would probably win).

Edit: Feel free to join in and have fun! :)

It wasn't hard for any scout sensitive to magic to find the source of the magic attack and Coldwind knew it well. He wasn't sure if there were any mages around that could possibly challenge or threaten him but he was sure that he would not going to allow chances intervene in his plans. Somehow managing to put sorceress on the back of his bear and then mounting himself, he retired from the hill into the forest, quickly heading to the road, to the south-west, away from dark distortion.

However, as soon as he disappeared from the hill and went just further in the forest, he changed his mind. Whether that was a deception or not, he changed his course to head to the camp. The bear was going fast, almost running, and the ride was shaky. No one fell down yet though.

The main army was still on the march.

As it happened, the orc actually HAD spotted an elf. While instinctively the elf began by hiding, after a brief second she stopped herself and came out from the shadows, having just struck upon a bright idea.

"Yip, this way stupid orcs!" she called "Follow me!"
And with that she raced off, hoping the orcs would chase her (and leave the other elves alone), towards the outskirts of the town.

"OI!" One of them shouted, "I HEARD DA ELF!"

Indeed, they did follow her, the eleven of them, raising their war axes and maces and swords, ocasionally throwing a few rocks or badly aimed spears, and always shouting their overly dramatic warcries.

Hearing the ruckus, the orcs in their surroundings joined the chase, coming from all directions.

"AIN'T NOWHERE TO RUN NOW, POINTY-EARED FUNNY THING!" An orc shouted. Indeed, while the ways were blocked, it appeared as though the tents were climbable - If the elf trusted them not to collapse, of course.

As the orcs chased the elf, the remaining elves continued searching the camp. With fewer orcs to track, they began searching much more quickly.

The elf was cornered, not knowing where to turn. She looked left and right, seeing only snarling orcs rushing towards her, and narrowly dodging a thrown rock. With an athletic leap, the light-footed elf jumped up to the top of the tent, hoping it wouldn't collapse.

Approaching the camp, Coldwind witnessed the forest fire. Rolling his eyes, he directed a blast of chilling wind to snuff the flame, then had the land frozen under him. With these measures done, he easily passed near burned or charred trees. Some of them collapsed on his path from sudden temperature falls. Whatever, He thought. Guess I have a minute or two.

The mage looked around via spyglass. He approached the fort almost from where the ents approached, so he witnessed everything happening there.

And where is my army when I need it? Don't think I'll do this alone, nor will I do his with her if she ever wakes up. Just what kind of magic did they use? Certainly an area of research. Whatever. If I want to attack, I need men. The closest I have is Goldman but 800 men? Nah, it won't work. Looks like I'll have to wait. How unfortunate.

He turned around and left, thawing the land behind him. It gained fire almost immediately.

Despite the elf's hopes, the poor structure did collapse, as the branches supporting it broke and the leathers covering it swiftly fell to the ground.

"DA CHIEF'S TENT!" One orc exclaimed with horror, "THAT BEETCH DESTROYED DA CHIEF'S TENT! GET HER!"

With this command, all the orcs began running towards her, swinging their weapons as they tried to hit her. Perhaps though, if the elf's senses were as intact as they usually were, she could have felt the presence of a certain magical item beneath her.

"Damn this shoddy orcish tent construction..." said the elf in a loud, yet delicate voice as the tent collapsed.

The elf fell, receiving minor injuries but nothing serious. She had no special ability to detect magical items, and was only generally aware that an item she wanted was in the camp. Instead she said: "Ouch! What kind of a dumb chief would build his tent on the outskirts of..."

And then she was hit by a rock and knocked out.

The elf flying above the camp, however, did consider the implications. It would have been logical for the item to be stored in the tent after all. Watching the situation closely, the elf began to prepare a levitation spell.

Without much more anticipation, the orcs all raged against the fallen elf, slashing and slicing and smashing and biting without prejudice. Once there was nothing but small bits of bones and meat left, most orcs returned for their patrols or their ale, while a few remained with some anxiety and began hastily rebuilding the king's tent, fearing what would happen otherwise.

The flying elf looked at the orcs rebuilding the tent with suspicion. "They sure are moving awfully fast to rebuild that tent ... I wonder if they're hiding something in the chief's tent..." she whispered into the wind.

Immediately no less than four elves were near the tent, ready for the faintest lapse in security so they could rush in and investigate. More elves were quickly on their way, ready to ambush the rebuilding orcs if that was required.
