Some dwarven miners have discovered one of the most powerful relics of the Gods buried deep inside the mantle of the Earth - the Golden MacGuffin. The MacGuffin's power is simply that everyone wants to hold it. Only the most powerful of Gods are immune to this magic - everyone will want it, until it is destroyed, but of course nobody wants to destroy it. It was created by the evil sorceress Rose White over a millennium ago, but banished by her rival, a witch named Red Poppy, to the depths of the Earth. Now its magic has returned to the world, and all the world's armies are making for the mine as fast as possible. Knowing this, the dwarves have placed the MacGuffin on a big alter outside the mine, ready to be claimed by the first ones who come past. In this RP, you will control one of the nations of Fantasy Pluviostan. To participate, just start posting. Make sure to include a brief description of your nation and how it attempts to retrieve the MacGuffin in your post. Also, include notes on the terrain and local people just in case the MacGuffin winds up in your lands. Allowed: basic magic (creating fireballs and the like), general fantasy monsters (dragons, goblins), cool castles, impressive empires and masses of men. Disallowed: OP magic (spells that teleport the MacGuffin right to you, impenetrable barriers etc), OP monsters (literally summoning Gods to fight for you - although a God might grant a character some minor blessing), and generally playing unfair (give everyone a chance to get at the MacGuffin). For roleplay purposes, the winner of conflicts will be adjudicated by a simple die roll if there is any dispute (but players are encouraged to be humble concede defeat if they can see the other side would probably win). Edit: Feel free to join in and have fun!

Eluding pursuers was generally a simple matter for the elite elven assassins, especially in a forest - with a quick levitation spell, Jasmine was up among the canopy of the forest trees. She darted about, quickly and unpredictably, as she meandered back toward the camp. Gawain still had the arrow lodged in his shin. He looked at the mage and squinted. Was it the light or his injury, or was this really ... a dark elf? He couldn't decide. "Who are you?" he asked at last. |

While the idea of doing an stereotypical "I'm asking the questions here" monologue crossed her mind, she abstained from senseless violence and calmly, softly answered Gawain's question; "My name is Jenel. I am a mage for the Dominion. Now, I answered your question, may you answer mine? What are the elves doing in this forest?" "We aren't going to catch her up!" One of the scout said, running out of breath while jumping from branch to branch, trying to follow the lead of the elf. "That's right" Another, more experienced one, the commander of the group, Dantras, said, "But that's not what I intend to achieve right now". Indeed, he didn't intend to capture her; He wanted to know the location of the elven camp. |

"I had no idea the cursed Dominion had spread to these parts" replied Gawain, surprised "Surely Prince Lachie would have foreseen it if it had... this can't be right. Well, as a matter of honor, I am Earl Gawain of the fourth generation, son of Jurgen the son of Kobe, pure elf mage first class, and noble among wood elves of the second class. I am in the forest in the service of my Lord Prince Lachie, son of King Eric the Wise, who rules over the Thickleaf Forest. Our business here is none save our own, but we can assure you that we intend to leave these lands soon, leave you in peace, and not return." Jasmine summoned a flare into the sky as she approached the camp. It shot up like a firework, alerting the elves keeping watch that she was being pursued. Quickly, the elves awoke from their morning slumber, and prepared to fight by dropping down through the forest canopy, as was their preferred tactic. |

"That's not quite the answer I wanted, my dear" Jenel said, standing up, "Maybe you need some stimulation?" This having been said, she walked around the table until she was behind Gawain. She leaned closer to his ear and whispered; "Would you kindly be more specific on your answer, or do you want me to refresh your memory?" As they approached the camp, Dantras gestured for the rest to stop. The dark elves could see in the darkness of the night; There was no reason for them to approach more. Instead, they hid in the bushes and the leaves, observing from the distance. With another hand gesture, Dantras ordered the scouts to return to the camp. He, however, stayed a little longer, observing the details of the camp. "There must be around as many as us", he thought, "But they don't appear to have any armor at all! This shall be a simple fight" Nodding in agreement with himself, he climbed up a tree and made his way back to the village. |

Coldwind hadn't wasted his time. While orcs were talking to each other, he sent two small globs of energy. They hit two owls nearby and after that those two flown to him. He attached a hastily scribed letter to one's feet and that bird flown towards the mountains. The other flown in the straight opposite direction, rapidly gaining height. That wasn't animal taming ─ Coldwind never was a mage particularly attached to the nature ─ but rather direct control of those owls. He knew there was a ruined village and figured there could be a clue there. He found it rather fast, but then noticed some very chaotic movement in the forests. Nothing could escape the aerial reckon. And then he saw a flare in the air. He guessed most correctly what was happening. As the orcs finished their talks and fell to think of peace, he said: "We'll march westward and fast! Don't lag behind." The roof closed and machine went alive, slowly turning westward before finally going on. |

Gawain sighed. "It is not my duty to convey that which you may wish to hear" he replied "But the truth, for we wood elves are elves of honor and integrity. But perhaps it would be easier to think of what additional detail you need, should you heal my leg." |

"Integrity?" Jenel wondered with malice, "Indeed, I could heal you right now" She dug her thumb nail into Gawain's right eye. "Now, I'm a bit rusty on my healing skills, I admit" She said, ignoring any possible scream that Gawain could make. She revolved the nail inside the eye, "I'm a battlemage, after all. But I can still heal you! All I need is for you to answer my questions, so would you do that for me?" As she said this, Imhrys observed from a corner of the tavern. Four scouts came rushing into the room, and approached the commander. "Sir, we've seen the camp. We can lead us all back to the place, if you order so" A scout said. "Where's Dantras?" He asked, arms crossed. "He stayed back. He said he was going to take a look and return" "And so I did," Dantras said, opening the door and coming in, "I've taken a look. They know about us, now; But they have a very poor armor. We could kill them all, in a battle" "Not if they escape," Imhrys sighed, "The damned cowards are excellent at doing just that. We are tired from our march and the soldiers need some rest; But they? They must be as good as new. In a battle, I'm sure we would win. But they would not have a battle at all" "So what do you want us to do, then?" Dantras asked. "Nothing. We shall rest. The prisoner shall tell us everything we need to hear" Meanwhile, the orcs marched on, running side to side with the machines. The strongest orcs carried the elder, who couldn't run. One of the youngest, excited, jumped into the exterior of one of the tanks and struggled to keep himself on top of it, grabbing anything he could so as to not fall, while shouting "I'm riding the devil!". Sadly, the slaves/livestock had to be left behind. Krust wondered if the raid would bring more than what was lost. |

"Argh! Yes yes, you witch!" cried Gawain in pain "Just tell me exactly what you need to know and I'll answer it." |

"I don't enjoy repeating myself." She sighed, "What are you elves doing in this forest? Are you after the MacGuffin?" |

"Who isn't?" replied Gawain "I mean, us and literally everyone else on the planet. That's how the curse works." |
