Some dwarven miners have discovered one of the most powerful relics of the Gods buried deep inside the mantle of the Earth - the Golden MacGuffin. The MacGuffin's power is simply that everyone wants to hold it. Only the most powerful of Gods are immune to this magic - everyone will want it, until it is destroyed, but of course nobody wants to destroy it. It was created by the evil sorceress Rose White over a millennium ago, but banished by her rival, a witch named Red Poppy, to the depths of the Earth. Now its magic has returned to the world, and all the world's armies are making for the mine as fast as possible. Knowing this, the dwarves have placed the MacGuffin on a big alter outside the mine, ready to be claimed by the first ones who come past.

In this RP, you will control one of the nations of Fantasy Pluviostan. To participate, just start posting. Make sure to include a brief description of your nation and how it attempts to retrieve the MacGuffin in your post. Also, include notes on the terrain and local people just in case the MacGuffin winds up in your lands.

Allowed: basic magic (creating fireballs and the like), general fantasy monsters (dragons, goblins), cool castles, impressive empires and masses of men. Disallowed: OP magic (spells that teleport the MacGuffin right to you, impenetrable barriers etc), OP monsters (literally summoning Gods to fight for you - although a God might grant a character some minor blessing), and generally playing unfair (give everyone a chance to get at the MacGuffin). For roleplay purposes, the winner of conflicts will be adjudicated by a simple die roll if there is any dispute (but players are encouraged to be humble concede defeat if they can see the other side would probably win).

Edit: Feel free to join in and have fun! :)

OOC: Before I post; Does Lachie have any notable armor, or does he look just like the rest?

He looks like the rest except that he's clearly a half-nymph - so, taller and fairer. Plus he happens to be leading the rest of the group. Plus he has his trusty bow drawn. Oh, and also he's carrying the McGuffin.

The scouts chased the drows, shooting arrows as they struggled to keep up. Finally, seeing the futility, Dantras shouted;
"Wizards!" He said, stopping in a branch, "Fire at the elves!"

With a nod and a grunt, Jenel and her crew nodded, each one preparing a fireball. They launched and guided them towards the elves; However, none was directed at Lachie (So as to not hurt the MacGuffin), but instead one was directed at the branch he appeared to be about to jump to.

Meanwhile, on the ground, the drows fought against the orcs, as the fire indiscriminately attacked both. The drows had superior training and equipment, true, but their bravery could not be compared to the savage ferocity of the orcs, and they outnumbered the dark elves by easily over seventy orcs.
And yet, the fire was relentless. Krust turned his back; "DAMN IT, LITTLE MEN, CAN YOU STOP FIRING THOSE DAMNED SHELLS?!"
His turn was used by a drow, who used the situation to land a blow on him with his sword.

"You wanted a challenge, didn't you?" Imhrys said, as the orc pushed him and his sword back.
"Ah, yes, a challenge alright!" Krust said, raising his axe, his bloodlust making the pain go away. He swinged his axe at the commander; This one jumped back, avoiding the sharp steel. "Don't run, coward!", the king shouted.
"Not in a million years!" The drow answered, dashing at the orc with his sword. A mistake it was; The orc dropped his axe, swiftly dodged the blade and then he grabbed the head of the dark elf, giving him a powerful headbutt.
Alas, the battle would have continued, had a shell not exploded nearby, knocking them both.

On pure instinct, one of the sorcerers among the elvish assassins saw a fireball flying towards them, and immediately cast an ice spell in retaliation. The two spells collided in mid-air, creating a huge explosion of hot steam temporarily obscuring some vision.

The remaining fireballs largely hit their marks, however, creating explosions among the thick canopy of leaves. Trees shook violently, and one elf lost her balance. She fell down with a scream and hit the ground hard.

Furthermore, several trees appeared to begin to catch on fire. Again, some of the elves sought to extinguish the flames, but Lachie spurred them onwards. "Once we get to the other side they won't be able to breach their own firewall" he said at a normal volume "When we get closer, start a crossfire to extinguish the flames from the artillery."

"But Lachie!" whispered one of the assassins "We must protect the forest"
"The McGuffin is more important right now" replied Lachie as a man possessed.

The elves continued reluctantly. As they moved through the thick smoke and increasingly flaming branches, they began to become separated from the main group more often, though they did their best to follow the McGuffin.

OOC: It's a bit difficult to defeat the elves when they are both written to outrun the rest of the races and can also summon spells to counter whathever anyone else casts, isn't it?

OOC: Then let me clarify a few things:
1. Most characters (assuming they're not carrying heavy loads) can almost certainly outrun them if they're moving in a straight line. The elves may be fast but they're among trees, and they're not moving in a straight line.
2. The elves are good with range, like spells and bows. Their weakness is close quarters. They're not attacking from range so that should make it trivial to close them. Some elves do ok with a longsword, but these don't have any close combat weapons of any quality.
3. The elves are beginning to distrust and lose morale in their leader, and if things continue the way they are, may well consider betraying Prince Lachie also, and move to defend the forest. Not to mention, the elves are afraid of your dark elves. They are a very small team yet have already taken losses.
... and finally ...
4. Nobody is entitled to win any battle. The outcomes are never predetermined. It may be possible that the elves get away. It may be possible that a dragon comes out of nowhere and turns every character in this RP to smoke. Sometimes it's nice to go with the flow.

The moment fireballs hit the crown of trees, Coldwind got everything. He waved hand so that tanks would cease fire and opened the door to his vehicle, not without considerable difficulty.

"Enemy to our right. Two marks to the right, full ahead, but don't fire!"
"We're going straight to our firewall?"
"GO! Everyone will be paid well for that!"

"Yes, Lord Coldwind. Two marks to the right! Full ahead! Hold your fire!"
"I see them! I see them!"

Tanks went ahead, trying to catch up with elves, machines heated and ventilation roaring to get more air to the boilers. Some men were shivering upon the thought of getting through the fire, which now started to consume the forest. Others stayed calm and collected. Coldwind was sitting in the armored door of the vehicle and it was certainly uncomfortable.

Sharpshooters with muskets fired some shots to the elves from several portholes in hope to get some.

OOC: I'm having a bit of a writer's block fueled by loads of tests and homework (Final days before the summer vacations, after all), but I'll try to write this one.

IC:
The scouts pursued the MacGuffin through the forest. While they were, indeed, not used to the outer world in general, the smoke of the fire and the darkness it produced proved to be no bother to them, as it was more than common in the poorly ventilated undergrounds.

In order to reach their goal, Dantras ordered;
"SCOUTS! Drop your swords and throw any dagger you have. We won't reach them otherwise!"
With certain grudge (As drows took great pride on their blades, which they adorned with shards, paints and sometimes cosmetic spells), the scouts followed the order, removing their swords from their belts and appropiately throwing their daggers against the enemy. The leather armor still was heavier than the leafs and the drow foot was still clumsy on the trees, of course, but a chase now seemed feasible.

Meanwhile, on the ground, things weren't as good.
Drow soldiers were taking Imhrys out of the battlefield, who, in his last words before falling unconciouss, ordered a retreat. Mages were to cover for this retreat; A spell of water was casted to make the dirt muddy, making it harder for orcs to pass through. The soldiers, meanwhile, retreated, taking their injured and their injuries with them. Cassualties were about thirteen; Devastating for the small expedition.

While decimated as well (Having lost up to 40 warriors, leaving about eighty), the orcs were as happy as ever. As the drows escaped, Krust ordered not to pursue them. Instead, the new old king laughed and cheered his new scars, to which his warriors sung songs to. Despite the loses and the pain and the fire, the mood was almost festive. A fight was nothing short of heaven to an orc; And while they eventually had to retreat back to the place from which they heard the machines roar, they didn't do this without drinking rum from their canteens and chewing the ripped limbs of fallen dark elves.

The other forces rapidly descended on the increasingly fragmented contingent of elves, who owing to the fire and the increasing sparseness of the forest close to the plains, were beginning to become separated. A few seemed confused when the lost sight of their friends and just remained paralyzed in the trees as the fire began to encroach them. With reduced visibility of the sky and much difficulty breathing, the elves were in dire straights. Then, with a terrible crackling sound, the elves heard the bangs of firearms, and two elves were shot dead.

"Lachie! They have the boomsticks!" said one elf in desperation "We have to let go of the McGuffin! Carrying it is slowing you down."
"No! The McGuffin ... is ours ..." wheezed Lachie.
"We can steal it back later, once the fire is passed. Right now our lives are more important. You are not an elf like us ... you do not have the same speed as we do among the trees even without carrying a precious relic around."
"No! I will never surrender... the McGuffin... even for... a moment."
"Then you have made your choice" and with those words, the other elves sped past Lachie and left him floundering behind them.
"Hey guys! Wait up!" he called, but it was useless ... the elves were deserting as fast as they could.

As they went, one of the elves chanted a quick spell to turn the ground under the nearest tank to sand, in the hopes of slowing it down.

The nearest tank ─ Coldwind's one ─ suddenly slowed down, the mage falling inwards, painfully hitting a bulkhead with his head. Although the wedge turned into the line, the tank wasn't stopped. It kept going and sharpshooters kept firing on fleeing elves.

"Fire on the nearest one, with that thing!" Obviously talking about Lachie, the order was put to motion. At the very same moment the dirigible appeared on the horizon, its crew noticing the smoke from tanks near the much darker smokescreen from scrub fire.
