Some dwarven miners have discovered one of the most powerful relics of the Gods buried deep inside the mantle of the Earth - the Golden MacGuffin. The MacGuffin's power is simply that everyone wants to hold it. Only the most powerful of Gods are immune to this magic - everyone will want it, until it is destroyed, but of course nobody wants to destroy it. It was created by the evil sorceress Rose White over a millennium ago, but banished by her rival, a witch named Red Poppy, to the depths of the Earth. Now its magic has returned to the world, and all the world's armies are making for the mine as fast as possible. Knowing this, the dwarves have placed the MacGuffin on a big alter outside the mine, ready to be claimed by the first ones who come past. In this RP, you will control one of the nations of Fantasy Pluviostan. To participate, just start posting. Make sure to include a brief description of your nation and how it attempts to retrieve the MacGuffin in your post. Also, include notes on the terrain and local people just in case the MacGuffin winds up in your lands. Allowed: basic magic (creating fireballs and the like), general fantasy monsters (dragons, goblins), cool castles, impressive empires and masses of men. Disallowed: OP magic (spells that teleport the MacGuffin right to you, impenetrable barriers etc), OP monsters (literally summoning Gods to fight for you - although a God might grant a character some minor blessing), and generally playing unfair (give everyone a chance to get at the MacGuffin). For roleplay purposes, the winner of conflicts will be adjudicated by a simple die roll if there is any dispute (but players are encouraged to be humble concede defeat if they can see the other side would probably win). Edit: Feel free to join in and have fun!

At the same time that Coldwing gave his order, Dantras himself tackled the Prince, as the mages casted spells to make the land softer, so as to make the fall less harmful. |

Lachie noticed another figure gaining on him. Swinging on a vine, he promptly tossed himself into the air (which was lucky, as a bunch of projectiles hit the tree he was standing on before) and into a cloud of smoke. It was an evasion tactic he'd practiced plenty of times, but hardly a good idea when vision was so obscured. As it happened, while Lachie was up in the air, he almost lost his grip on the McGuffin. Cartoonishly, he scrambled to collect it before it fell and held it tight in his arms. Then he came down, and to his surprise, among the smoke, Lachie landed on something soft. "Well that's nice" he said to himself, not knowing where he was, and barely noticing his feet being sucked into the quicksand underneath him. He'd landed braced for a hard impact, but this was hardly necessary for the light half-elf. He fell directly behind Coldwind's tank. |

Coldwind regained his composure and was thinking of what to do next while the battle raged. Then ─ a wonder. Or an elf with a MacGuffin; the mage couldn't mistake it's strong allure with anything. Nor could his crew fail in seeing their target falling as they stopped their vehicles. Two tanks started to move backwards, trying to place the elf in a triangle between them. But the mage did his part first, immediately hurling a brief blast of a cold wind, followed by a lightning. It was too hot for the blizzard he loved to be casted. |

Watching the scene, the elf remained quiet. "Quicksand," Dantras whispered, raising his hand so as to order silence, "If the dwarves try to catch it, they will sink. So will the MacGuffin if we don't do this fast" "What do we do?" A scout asked. "Wait. The dwarves are wearing heavy armour and lead even heavier carriages. We, on the other hand, have a light armour and training in all kinds of quick movements. If anything is to happen, we'll at least take longer to sink; Long enough to think about something. In any case, the dwarves won't be the ones to take the MacGuffin, I can assure you that much" |

Lachie ducked under the sand as the blasts came towards him, half-submerging the Golden MacGuffin. A moment later he came up gasping for air as he sank lower and lower, now only his face barely showing in the sand. "H..." he muttered before sinking again. Meanwhile the other elves, leaderless, managed to make it out of the smoke and regroup in a clearing. "Where is our prince?" one whispered. "He fell behind" whispered another. "Then we must prepare for when the battle is over" "First we should rest. Some of us are injured." "Agreed. But we must not wait too long, or the MacGuffin may be lost forever." |

Coldwind saw what he thought was the end of Lachie. Stepping out of the tank, he was about to come and claim the prize, when his staff suddenly sunk for about a quarter of length in an instance just before he stepped on that spot. The place was surrounded by tanks as it was small enough to be surrounded. The zeppelin was right above them, anchor attached to the main tank. "Quicksand, and a bad one!" An officer shouted from within the leading tank. "Lord Coldwind, the air is almost burned out! We won't last long there." "We won't have to!" With those words he casted the spell to turn the quicksand back to ground. "Get the men there and dig it out! And give me the pickax too!" And so, some dwarfs and Coldwind with them started to dig out the treasure they desired. |

"Damn the humans and their already damned magic!" A scout whispered, before being shush'd by Dantras. "We'll still wait, then" Dantras sighed, "This will take a while. You," He looked at the scout that had spoken, "Go tell the mages that we need their help. We need them t-" Before he finished, an army came marching down. It was the victorious orcs, still cheering and singing songs. "Oi, mate!" Krust exclaimed, pointing at Coldwind, "What'ya doin' with that shovel? I knew you dwarves liked to dig, but..." He laughed, "Wait, aren't you a bit tall for a dwarf?" Dantras grunted. "Forget it. Tell the mages to contact the capital. We'll need an army. The rest, we'll stay and track the MacGuffin" |

Coldwind was completely unamused. "Because I'm not a dwarf! And we're digging a body we'd like to have." He said. All while trying to telepathically tell his mooks to throw MacGuffin into the tank be it found. The tank, by the way, got closer, close enough for the mage to sit after just one step back. |

After prodding the surface for a while, the dwarves found the MacGuffin, with Lachie's dead fingers still wrapped around it. |

After some intense running, the scout reached the rest of the expedition. There they were, away from the fire, closer now to the beaches, hurt, tired, grieving and furious. Imhrys appeared to be particularly distraught. This was his chance to ascend in the drow's society; A chance that now seemed to be dead. Lamenting his wounds, he walked along with the rest, head looking at the horizon where the seas should be. "My lord!" The scout said, catching his breath and falling to his knees, both as a reverence and in exhaustion, as Imhrys turned to him "The dwarfs have the MacGuffin. It appears that the orcs are siding with them. Dantras and the rest remained to track the MacGuffin; They said that we should bring an army!" The commander simply nodded, and continued his march. There was not anymore to say; The mages already prepared the rituals and sent brief messages to the capital, asking for transport back to the Dominion. All there was to do was to wait. |
