I’m new to forums/text-based roleplay, what do I do here? Pokemon Orion is a Text-Based roleplaying site, meaning that instead of acting out your roleplay, you write it in the form of short, connected stories and post it. Also, because we're on a forum, things are a little different. On forums like Orion, users are required to make stories in the form of threads. A user will find a location, a sub-forum, and make a new thread there. Character Creation Now that you understand posting, here’s how you get started! First you need to make a character and get them approved for use here. Simply fill out the Character Template and then post a new topic with it. For information about character class, click here. Two moderators will then approve it and the character can then be used for your roleplay. Remember that they have to fit into our setting. Your character should be from within Orion. Orion exists in its own canon world, so there are no regions like Kanto, Hoenn, Unova, or any other region or town from the anime, mangas, or games. This also means no canon characters, no Red, Ash, Nurse Joy, or Magikarp Guy before Mt. Moon. There are a few rules. We ask that you fill out everything in the profile that isn't marked "Optional” on the character profile template. You're always allowed to do more if you'd like, such as relationship tabs or birthdays. Once you've been active for at least a month, going by the date marked by when your character is posted for approval, you can go ahead and make a second character. There are some rules here too. Firstly, you cannot trade between characters, no items, pokemon, or anything can be transferred. We do allow your two characters to interact, but it counts as a solo thread, not a tag thread. They may not be together in one thread with another RPC (role-playing character) though, we have this rule to make sure that every member has an equal say in the plot and that can be overthrown when one user has more than one character. It should also be stated that making a second character is allowed for the sake of you getting to write with more people. Making a second character to compliment the first is severely frowned upon, and can usually be done better with a simple NPC(Non-playable character). Please do not allow your characters to meet and interact unless it's absolutely necessary. In Character VS Out Of Character Mechanics To clarify on further topics that will include these words, and Orion’s usage of the terms, we will explain what In Character Mechanics mean and what Out Of Character Mechanics means. IC Mechs are basically the ‘realistic’ version of roleplaying. For example, you have created your character, Joe, to be homeless and poor. Out Of Character means the ‘game’ version of roleplaying. Joe is a trainer and still starts his journey with 5 pokeballs by default. Though he has no way of affording them realistically, he still technically has what every trainer starts off with. You could then write that Joe found a pokeball on the side of the road, or he stole one. This is of course, to promote characters of varying backgrounds, personalities and aspirations, without actually limiting their potential. But the same is also true. You character Joe, could be rich and went to the pokemart and bought hundreds of pokeballs, just because he felt like it. But he is still limited to actually using just 5 of them, since that’s all he has in OOC Mechs. To sum it up, your character can be almost anything and do almost anything, as long as the Out Of Character or ‘game’ mechanics are still in check and you aren’t trying to exploit or abuse these dual mechs. Declaring Your Pokemon The first step to every pokemon battle should be declaring your pokemon. This can be done at any time before a battle begins, and it’s usually best to do it during your first post. At the beginning of each topic, we ask that you post in a spoiler the "Pokemon" section of your profile (you can PM a mod to get the code if you need it) and this will be your thread's Pokemon Declaration. This way, even as your pokemon gain experience and change stats from Monthly Events and other sources, there is always a stationary record of your pokemon's' levels and stats available for your and the evaluator's reference. Furthermore, if you receive EXP or other rewards, you can post an updated declaration. If you do not post a new declaration, the evaluator will judge your pokemon based off of the most recent declaration. This can result in godmodding penalties if you're not careful. But, since Orion is about freedom and creativity, there is some wiggle room involved. If you want, you can adjust your pokemon's status at the start of the thread so that they're lower than what they are in your profile. If you received more rewards than expected, and had an idea in mind for your pokemon's evolution or the learning of a new move or anything else that requires them being at a lower level, we encourage you to declare your pokemon that way. Currency The official ‘dollar’ of Orion are called stars. They are a paper currency that resemble much like the british pound, with the current queen, Ursa printed on the money. There are no coins or singular stars in Orion, and as such, the monetary bills go as follows, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000. The color of the bills are a forest green. Though there are no small coins or dollars, the people of Orion still use bartering to fill any gaps that money cannot. Though not all shopkeepers do, many will allow items, berries or other material to be traded when you are short of cash. Edited by NeebyNebula, Aug 8 2016, 06:19 PM.

Basic Writing Rules Orion does not regularly rely on a Moderator system for writing as well; this means that you can control what happens in your thread as much as you want. We only ask that you have a minimum of four (4) posts per solo thread (more on this later). You don't have total free-reign however, there are some things we control. For example, like what Pokémon you encounter and the stats of the pokemon of trainers you choose to challenge. Battling System Battling in this forum is meant to be a way for your character and their pokemon to grow not just physically, but emotionally as well. Because that is our goal, battles here can really be summed up by common sense. We take elements mainly from the games but the other canons as well. Reading this guide, however, will provide you a more specific guidelines for you to follow. The easiest way to describe our system is Free-Form Battling. That means that you can do most anything you want and there are only a few limits on your creativity. There are some rules and there are guidelines, and there are traditions as well. The first rule is that all battles, basically anything that can award you EXP, must be given to you through an [Encounter Request] You can read more about encounters below or use ctrl + f ‘ encounters ’. A mod will then roll an encounter that you can use in your thread. Yes, you get to control what we give you, we only control what it is. Since you get to control your opponent, it’s natural to try to use whatever means you can to win. But sometimes you will be given tough trainers to battle. You could still use your creativity to try and win, but stay within reason. If there is no reasonable way for you to win a battle, then you will have to take the loss or take a penalty in your evaluation for losing plausibility. It might also be tough to try and think for both sides of a battle, but one of our goals here on Orion is to strive to make people better writers. Almost all authors control both sides of every fight they write, so though it may be kinda tiring at first, let your brain and imagination stretch, you’ll find that you can come up with some really amazing things. Pokemon Stats A large part of Pokemon derives from combat. In order to make our combat smooth and flexible, we have developed the stat system. The combat qualities of a Pokemon are regularly determined by the numbers of stats that each Pokemon has. The number of stats defines how powerful your Pokemon is compared to others. Combining stats with free-form RP makes your experience as a trainer even more fun! Just like in the games, your Pokemon is defined by five statistics: Attack Defense Special Attack Special Defense Speed “But what about Health?” We’ve decided that keeping track of a bunch of numbers is a really big pain in the rear and can immensely limit a person’s creative flow, so we’ve removed all numbers from the Health Classification and given you broad titles that give you more room for interpretation. Health is a measure of how long a pokemon can fight, basically. It’s not necessarily similar to the defensive stats, they measure how sturdy a pokemon is. Below are the titles that describe each classification of health. We grouped pokemon into these based on their in-game stats. We’ve also included a brief description of what the title can mean in RP
Now, to get back onto track. Just like Health is only a blanket statement about a pokemon’s capability, so are the rest of the stats. Furthermore, we’ve grouped several numbers into five different levels with titles. They are as following: Developing, Novice, Intermediate, Outstanding, and Master. This is meant to generalize the concept of an attack so that it’s easier to understand, since sometimes numbers can be hard to view in a real world setting. They are divided thusly:
These are meant to be freeform friendly. No calculations, these are here to give you a basic idea about of what your pokemon is capable of. And remember to keep in mind that the more creative writer that has pokemon with lower stats will almost always find a way to defeat a less capable writer with vitamin-buffed beasts. That stated, if someone is writing a battle in a solo thread, look at the stats and compare them. Generally, if something has Intermediate defenses and you’ve Developing attack, then it will be tanking what you throw at it pretty well. Similarly, if your Speed is in Outstanding , you could probably justify dodging a lot of attacks from a less leveled opponent. And if you’re paired up with a glass cannon with Developing defense, and you’ve got Outstanding attack, you’d better make sure you attack first. If you’re in the same level though, it might not be so even. In the Intermediate and Outstanding tiers it becomes possible to have a wide range of stats. In this case, just compare the numbers. If a stat is twice the comparative stat or more, it’ll be super or not very effective. This can stack with regular type effectiveness as well. So a Super Effective, Critical Hit with a 3:1 stat ratio could probably justify a One-hit-KO. Though, as a writer, battles generally should be pretty dynamic, so going all out to get that first powerful hit might be discouraged, not from a game-rules perspective, but an artistic one. Remember the point of the stats is to supplement your writing, not govern it. Here we’ll list a general idea of what we expect from each tier. Remember that your imagination is limitless, we’re just providing these guidelines to focus it into a brilliant world. Attack The Attack Stat is here to describe how much a Physical Attack can do in battle.
Defense The Defense stat is here to describe how much a pokemon can negate a Physical Attack. Defense, in character, can be seen as the motion of endurance.
Special Attack The Special Attack stat is here to describe how powerful a Special Attack can be. In character, this can relate to intelligence, slightly.
Special Defense The Special Defense stat is here to show how much of a Special Attack can be negated. Just like a physically stocky pokemon can withstand direct attacks, a specially fortified pokemon can completely nullify special attacks. In character, special defense can somewhat be seen as wisdom.
Speed The Speed stat is here to determine how quickly all moves are executed. Just like in the games, the Pokemon with the highest speed stat will move first. It’s not just physical speed, but the ability to manifest and direct special attacks as well. This also plays into evasion.
Remember, Stats (also levels) are purely for OOC purposes. No one in Orion asks “What level is your pokemon?” or “What’s their speed stat?” or say “I have an Outstanding Attacker” These descriptions are for you as a writer to use and discuss with other players. Pokemon Division In Orion, we have decided to generally classify all pokemon into 12 Stat Divisions. In the games, all pokemon have a Base Stat Total. We grouped these BSTs into larger categories and assigned all pokemon based on their in-game stats. Your Total Stats on Orion are calculated by taking the Level of your Pokemon and multiplying it by the Number of Stats per Level as defined by their Division. Here’s a helpful table which you will probably reference many times while you’re here~
Dividing the Stats for Your Pokemon Just like humans, pokemon all vary in size, strength, and other abilities, and that is reflected in their stats. Some specialize in attack, others defense, and others specials and speed, some have combinations, and others don’t specialize at all. The pokemon games give very limited diversity between different members of a species through the use of natures, EVs, and IVs. In Orion, we’ve made those all essentially moot by allowing you nearly free reign over the assigning of stats. However we can’t allow a person to actually give their Alakazam a ton defense points, so we’ve gone through and set ranged percentages based on species. In the [pokedex], all pokemon have one to three stats in which you must put a percentage of your total stats. That means if you choose 25% in SpAtk, and you get 12 stats per level, every time you level up you must put 3 stats there, no more, no less. The remaining 9 can be assigned as you please. Or if you’re dealing with total stats, at level 5 this pokemon might have 60 stats. In that case, exactly 15 would go to SpAtk. Don’t worry, this is the most math you’ll ever have to do, just think back to when you learned percents, and dig up those memories and you’ll have no problem at all. To help you along, here’s an example. Primary Example Let's go along with a Bulbasaur. Now, let's take a look at the PokeDex on his info.
Remember that Total Stats are calculated by taking the product of the Pokemon's Level and the Stats per Level given by the Division. So, with Bulbasaur as Level 5 and his division at D8 (which would be 11 Stats per Level), he would have a Total Stat count of 55. Once you calculate that, you look at the stats that contain a percentage range. So in this case, Bulbasaur has a percentage division for Special Attack and Special Defense. From there, you are able to select any number within that percentage range. So, for example, if I wanted Bulbasaur's Special Attack to be 23% and his Special Defense to be 25%, then I can do so. If that were to happen, his stats would turn out to be like this:
If we calculate the remaining stats, we have 28 stats left. What do we do with it? It's simple. You have the freedom to divide those 28 stats to the other three stats that have dashes. Yup, this is the freedom that we will give you through the stats system! (the only restriction to this freedom is that you cannot make a Pokemon's stat 0. It must have at least 1). So, if I were to divide my stats freely and however I want:
In the end, that should all total up to 55 stats, correct? Just remember, there are some stats that require a specific percentage division while there are other stats that you can freely manipulate. Also remember to always round to the nearest whole number when it comes to distributing stats by the percentage. We also hold a special rule when it comes to the percentages. Typically, when you encounter a Pokemon in the wild, its stats have already been decided for you. However, once you catch the Pokemon, you are able to alter its stats to however you see fit. Please keep note that once you select a percentage for the Pokemon's stat, you cannot change that percentage again. Once chosen, it stays permanent. The only exception to this rule is when the Pokemon evolves. At that time, you are able to change its percentage. We hope that by using this system, we give you whatever freedom to use your Pokemon. Now, what happens when your Pokemon evolves? Just like in the games, when your Pokemon evolves, the stats are greatly increased by a huge factor. Therefore, in the forum, Pokemon Division AND Stat Distribution changes upon evolution. So, once Bulbasaur goes from Level 15 to Level 16, he would evolve into an Ivysaur.
Do you see the significant difference when your Pokemon evolves? This also applies to every other Pokemon. So, when you are applying the stats to your Pokemon, the key thing to remember is the Pokemon's Division, its Level, and its Stat Distribution percentage. That is all there is to it. Vitamins Vitamins are nutrient-rich health drinks that strengthen a Pokémon’s stats. They are carried at every Pokémart for the price of *dian* 4500. Stat boosts from Vitamins are processed directly through Pokemart requests.
Each Vitamin provides a 10% boost to a stat after all base percentages have been calculated. Let's say we want to increase Bulbasaur's Speed with a Carbos. His current Speed is 10, and when we take 10% of that we are left with the Bonus Stats: 1. Here's how his Profile will look now:
Take a look at the bracketed numbers next to Total Stats. The first value [55] represents the Base Stat, which is the number used to calculate Bulbasaur's Special Attack and Special Defense. The second value [1] is the number of Bonus Stats. This is also done next to the Speed stat. At first this doesn't look too impressive, but keep in mind that Bulbasaur is only Level 5. As his Base Speed increases, so will his Bonus Speed in accordance with the 10% multiplier. So when he reaches 20 Base Speed, the Bonus will increase to +2. Vitamins also stack, so buying more will also help. Additional Vitamins increase the multiplier by 5%. So with 2x Carbos, Bulbasaur would get a 15% boost instead of 20%. The multiplier for a single stat is capped at 50%, which is 9 Vitamins. Your Pokemon can ONLY consume a total of 20 Vitamins. The Vitamins Used section helps you keep track of what stats are being multiplied and by how much. If you have a question on one of the stat distributions or its division, please ask us through a PM or in the Chatbox. Remember, our job is to make sure that you understand the system as much as possible. The Statistic section is the biggest and most complex block of the RP system. It is quite normal if you do not understand at first. Therefore, it is recommended that you ask questions that you are unsure of. Don’t worry, this is the most math you’ll ever have to do and you can always ask for help. EXP System Experience Points are indications of how much a Pokemon has battled. Once a Pokemon has grown a certain amount of experience points, they level up and become stronger. The more you level up, the more difficult it becomes to gain EXP. Overview EXP is typically awarded in the following fashions.
Leveling Up Like in the games, the amount of experience points a Pokemon has is dependent on its level. However, the amount varies depending on what species the Pokemon is, which is always consistent with its evolutionary family. A given amount of experience points will always set a Pokemon at their corresponding level. Each Pokemon has an EXP Gauge which is represented by (#/#). -The first # represents the Total EXP amount the Pokemon currently has. -The second # represents how much Total EXP the Pokemon needs in order to level up. All Pokemon fall into six different groups known as EXP Rate, where each group has a different amount of experience points required to reach Level 100.
If you want to know your Pokemon's EXP Rate, please refer to the PokeDex. Through battle, you can determine how much EXP your Pokemon gains depending on their level:
Are you confused? Well, let's do some examples.
Encounters Encounters are basically something that you, the user, requests from the staff [here] in order to encounter a trainer, pokemon, or to find an item. Though you can almost never request for a specific pokemon or item, you can request for a specific type of trainer. Read more on this from NPC’s. (ctrl + f ‘ NPC ‘) There is also something called Dynamic Encounters. So, “what makes Dynamic encounters different than regular encounters?”, you may wonder. Well it’s all pretty simple. Dynamic encounters are not something that can be rolled. To get a dynamic encounter, you would have to let your topic allow dynamic encounters by simply saying so in a little ooc message at the beginning of your topic. And if your topic is randomly chosen (or you could ask), then your topic will be given a DE. Here’s what can happen with a dynamic encounter:

About Threads There are two main types of threads on Orion, Tag Threads and Solo Threads. Tag Threads This is the reason a lot of us choose to roleplay, two players, writing together, combining their wit to create something wonderful. As long as two PCs from different authors are together in one thread, it is considered a Tag Thread. The characters can battle, chit-chat, go on a date, whatever comes to mind. If you need to find a partner, the Chatbox is always good for live discussion, or you can post [here] and wait for a partner to come along. We ask that each post consist of at least 200 words, though more will always get you further. It is highly encouraged to use Pad Posts. There are several sources online for collaborative documents where more than one author can write on one page together. The better ones are Google-Docs, and Sync.in. Simply share a link and people can write away. If you choose to use this method, two authors can work on one post, thus eliminating the need to fill up space to meet the word limit with ‘purple prose’. The word count and quality of these posts will go to both authors as well. Be careful with this because each player takes responsibility for all the good and all the bad, even if they didn't contribute it. Each collaborative post, however, must be at least 500 words and tag topics have a minimum limit of 6 posts to be considered complete. Also make sure that you provide a link to the pad or doc you used to collaborate in the Topic Evaluation or Thread. Solo Threads Working alone on a topic can often lead to fantastic threads that explore the adventures of one PC and their affairs. Generally you can do whatever you wish to do in these topics, or you may want to spice things up with one of the Event Topics that can be found [here]. All solo threads must contain a minimum of four posts, each with a minimum word count of 400. Though much like Tag-Topics, the more the better! Origin/Lab Topics Have a burning desire to play out events that lead to your character wanting start a journey? Want to show us how your character encountered their starting Pokemon? If you answered yes to either both or one of these questions, you may want to consider writing an origin or lab topic. Lab topics are specifically for those that chose to have a lab starter (Torchic, Piplup, etc). You can develop how your character felt, what they did and how they behaved on the day they were finally able to choose their starter Pokemon! Remember, there are no anime/manga/game professors in Orion, so there is no Professor Oak or Juniper. Nor is there just one professor for the entire region. Origin topics are for everyone else. Though you may still encounter a lab Pokemon in the wild. These topics are entirely optional. They can only be completed once and only as your first topic. Much like Solo-Threads and Tag-Threads, origin threads require a minimum of 4 or 6 posts and a minimum of 400 or (200) 500 words per post respectively. Topic Evaluation On Orion, we believe that writing is an amazing gateway to sharing and blossoming one’s imagination. But we also believe that as writers, we should be working to improve our craft, which is why we have topic evaluations. Topic evaluations is basically one moderator of the site objectively (and subjectively!) critically reviewing your topic in order to give you rewards, most commonly, the EXP needed for your pokemon to grow and the stars your character needs to thrive. Though not to fear, moderators adhere to a guideline when it comes to evaluations and the subjective part is mostly used for bonuses and are not meant to penalize you. Anywho! Once you have completed your topic, post a Topic Evaluation Request [here]. Once your topic has been taken in for evaluation a reply to your request will be given. Now all you can do is wait and be as patient as possible with the mod handling the evaluation. Depending on workload and length of the topic, it may take some time. Please allow up to several days for a member of staff to get around to evaluating your topic. A second reply will inform you when the topic has been evaluated and you can then go to your topic and read your evaluation and check your rewards! If you have any questions or queries do not hesitate to contact the mod that handled your evaluation. Once you are satisfied, put in a modification request with your desired changes and applied rewards. Here, we do believe in quality over quantity. That doesn’t mean you won’t be rewarded for word count, we know that being verbose can take a lot of work sometimes. It does mean that someone who wrote a brilliant 1,600 word, 4 post minimum topic can reap the same rewards as someone who wrote a not-so-fantastic 3,000 word topic. But, because we all want good rewards and we want to improve as writers, we aim to guide you to being a better writer. We also look through topics and check to see if there are any glaring penalties like the following:
Incomplete topics can also be submitted, but they do take a harsh penalty. We do ask that you do not use this feature unless you are stuck with an RP partner who abandoned you. But even this can be remedied by trying one’s best to simply wrap up the topic, whether it be in defeat or victory or totally anticlimactically. A completed thread will always be worth more than an incomplete thread. Edited by NeebyNebula, Aug 8 2016, 06:22 PM.

Character Modification After an evaluation, you should then submit a [Character Modification]. Basically you take what was awarded to you from an evaluation or an event and apply it to your character. Make sure you note how much EXP goes to whom [Note: Pokemon that have bested other pokemon in battle are alotted that exact EXP and it cannot be normally shared or divided], then change their EXP Gained and Gauge respectively. Then their Level. Then their Stats. Then check for an updated moveset (don't’ forget to bold STAB attacks). Update your adventure log, and add and remove any Money or Items (including pokeballs if you caught a pokemon). And make sure it’s all in code. If you need help with coding or a modification in general, ask a staff member! Coding can be tedious but you don’t have to do it alone and you’ll definitely get the hang of it! You may also use these to revamp a character. If you suddenly realize that they’re kinda flat, or they’re missing something from their history, feel free to submit a modification in which you round them out or enlighten us a little bit on their past. What’s the next step? So you’ve got all the information about making a character, and threads and yada yada, you might wonder what to do? Well you write a story of course. You can start in any location, barring a few. Victory Road and the Elite 4 are places that cannot be entered without all 8 Badges. Also, Drakefang Mountain and Genie’s Grotto cannot be accessed by new trainers and is only allowed entry by the guards when a trainer has at least 1 badge or special permissions, which is usually a ranger on an assignment. Though the minimum requirements are 1 badge, trainers are not really suggested to enter the mountain unless they have 3 or 2 badges, since the pokemon there are very dangerous. And finally, one also cannot start in the Safari Zone. Though the pokemon there are naturally more docile and timid than the ones in the wild, it is still a hazard for new trainers to enter the safari. And as such, this area also has a 1 badge limit, but the suggestion is to have 2. Wherever you decide to start, if it is an origin thread, as stated above, you may then continue writing wherever you please, however, afterward you are required to travel linearly, meaning location by location without skipping unless you have a pokemon that allows it, such as HM02 Fly or a bicycle (which allows you to skip over one location). But fear not, if you are excited about reaching your new friend who's across the map, we have built in a system just for that known as… The Metrorail! Orion has an all-encompassing network of tall railings that make up the scenic metrorail system. Tickets are priced on how far you’re traveling. It starts at 100 stars + 50 stars per every location skipped. Which means that the cheapest ticket is 150 stars. They make stops in every town and all are connected to the grand central station in Central Orion. You must be in or adjacent to a city, simply RP in either your departure point, or your arrival point, and have enough stars to pay for your trip. The metrorail is here so that you can get as quickly as you can to an RP partner, even if they happen to be across the country. Locations To find every possible location your trainer can visit, check out our town [map]. You will notice that Orion has a very rich history and culture and almost every city has something that draws in people from every aspect of life. Some of the more interesting places are called ‘points of interest’ or POI. Points Of Interest These places serve a unique purpose in Orion and almost all of them can be beneficial for your character to visit, no matter what character class they have taken up. And to encourage traveling and visiting the beautiful region of Orion, they all have a gift or important token for people who visit for the first time. So whether it be the Bug Catching competition at the National Park or visiting the region’s own pride and joy Planetarium, there is sure to be some kind of treat for your character. And while there are places that are welcoming to new trainers and the like, some are not readily available to those beginning their journey, due to their dangerous environment or pokemon. These locations are Genie’s Grotto, Safari Zone, Drakefang Mountain, and Victory Road. You can find out more about their restrictions and how to lift them later on. You should also know that pokemon can be found in cities, as well as in the wild. Though the pokemon you can find in cities are limited in diversity, level, and nature, they can all still be battled and/or caught. Just know that all of the pokemon found in cities are going to be much weaker than the ones found in the wild, since they are all at least slightly domesticated and do not rely on much hunting or battling to thrive. Note: Orion is incredibly diversified in people, culture and weather. Every location has a base description of what you can mentally picture. For things such as houses and streets, you can follow a basic interpretation of standard pokemon-esque infrastructure. A lot of it is up to the writer's interpretation (assuming they are following the description given to them) so you don't have to worry too much about the smaller details. And every place is big enough to where your character could see one thing (such as dirt roads or shanty houses) and another writer's character could see something a bit different. Items To cut to the chase, a lot of the standard trainer items can be bought in any pokemart, which is usually right nearby a pokemon center. Standard items include, but are not limited to, the scaling pokeballs (great, ultra but not master), potions and status cures, key items such as a watering can and poffin maker, and a very limited amount of accessories. But you can also find items throughout your journey. Most items and TM’s can be found just about anywhere in Orion. And there are some things that influence how often you find items and what items you do find. Here are some examples:
Now that you’ve gotten the gist of standard items and how to get them, now we’ll discuss important items, which are Berries, Acorns, Special Pokeballs, TMs, and Misc. Items. Berries Berries are often the easier and cheaper alternative to common medicine, since all that's required is for the pokemon to consume the berry. What you need to know about berries in Orion is; All berries have a singular seed inside them that's safe for consumption but also necessary to grow into a shrub of more berries. To grow a shrub, simply plant the seed of the berry that you want to produce more of in reasonable soil, give it a few hours of sunlight, minimal filtered waterings and voila! A small shrub will have grown in that spot. What's important to note is that shrubs grow very fast, but they are also short lived. The shrub will look like a miniature tree and will sprout 3 berries of the seed that was planted. Once all the berries have been plucked, the shrub will die. Shrubs can eventually grow into trees though, which will produce berries indefinitely every day and grow very large. But they take a lot of nurturing on the gardener's part and two weeks on intensive care to make sure the berries aren't plucked. Acorns Your character can find acorns just like any other item, and grow them with the same logic and method as berries. The only catch about acorns is that only someone who specializes in making acorns into pokeballs can actually do anything with it. Luckily for you, there are such people working at the [Berry and Acorn Grove]. Special Pokeballs Not including the ones you make from acorns, these balls are as follows: Premier Ball, Repeat Ball, Timer Ball, Nest Ball, Net Ball, Dive Ball, Luxury Ball, Heal Ball, Quick Ball, Cherish Ball, and Dusk Ball. Some of these balls are only obtainable through special means, which are the Cherish Ball and Premier Ball. Note that both of these balls do not affect capture rate by any means. The other mentioned balls can be only be found, gifted, or rewarded to your character, often times through encounters, monthly events, and topic evaluations. Technical Machines // TM's And Hidden Machines // HM's In the games, TM's are pretty straight forward to use. And in Orion, it will also be as such. Technical Machines are small discs that are inserted into your holocaster showing a stock pokemon performing the move, along with acted out instructions for different pokemon body types making it easier for your pokemon to learn. Pokemon watching the video usually learn how to do it within 5 minutes. Because they are discs, they can be lost, destroyed or given away to another trainer. Hidden Machines are the same as Technical Machines but they are much harder to obtain, learn and forget. You will have to go to a move deleter in order to allow your pokemon to forget an HM. Miscellaneous Items This category is for the dolls, accessories and just about every other encounterable item that don't fit into the above lists. The dolls and accessories are pretty much aesthetic based but for everything else, you won't have to worry about it. When you do encounter them or purchase them, there will be more information regarding how and when to use them. Edited by NeebyNebula, Aug 8 2016, 08:35 PM.

Rivals, Companions, and other Important NPCs One of the staples of the games we obviously all love is the fact that you, as the protagonist, always have a rival or someone else with whom to compete as you travel through the game. In later games you also have friends that battle with you, and even briefly travel with you. In a realistic setting, being a loner who only loves his pokemon is not very common and likely won’t be very fun for you. So, in the spirit of spicing up our characters' lives, here are some ground rules for NPCs. Firstly, everything can basically be summed up by one of Pixar's rules for writing, "Coincidences that get your character into trouble are great. Coincidences to get them out are cheating." The latter is also called a Deus Ex Machina, and is a very frowned upon practice. Your NPCs should be there to enrich your experience, not cover your bases or make things easy. If you can write a story without a constant NPC, you should do so. If you do want one though, then you can go ahead and just write them into your threads whenever you want! Of course the quality of your writing will still be judged in evaluation and they should be supporting characters. They can even have pokemon, almost any pokemon you want. This is where things get kinda tricky though. Your NPC cannot ever help you in battle or battle you themselves. We describe it below, but our encounter system is how we manage EXP and pokemon distribution here. If you want your NPC to help you in battle or to be a rival whom you battle on occasion, you will need to have them rolled. This is simple though, just fill out a [request] and give us the details and preferred pokemon, and a mod will fairly roll it. It usually comes out in your favor too. Once that's done, then you're free to go~ If you want them to grow as well, just request a re-rolling and the mod will do their best to help you get what you'd like against the wheel of chance. Don't try to break the game with NPCs though. You should not trade pokemon with them, you should not have them magically have a higher quality pokeball so you can catch a rare you didn't prepare for, and you should not battle them 10 times in a thread to boost your EXP. We'll say it again. No NPC Ex Machinas. Note: We have a list of NPCs players have made [here]. These are for mod and player convenience, and are for the entire population of the site. Your character's rival(s), sibling(s), friend(s) should not go here, these are for plot and mod purposes. If the urge strikes you though, please feel free to donate your NPC through sending a private message to a moderator. There isn't a guarantee it will go up, but it can be a nice gesture. |

Gyms and Contests In Orion, we also have a gym and contest system very similar to that of the games. The only difference is that the gyms are mostly nonlinear and the contests are slightly linear. What that means is that there is no first or last gym leader (such as Brock through Giovanni) but there is a last contest hall (the Grand Contest Hall). Here’s a more handy explanation. Gyms and Gym Leaders are divided into 3 tiers. Novice Tier: Three gym leaders fall into this category in three different regions of Orion. They don’t have to be fought in any particular order and defeating all three immediately allows one to move on to the intermediate tier. Intermediate Tier: Again, three gym leaders are in this category, and they do not have to be challenged in any order. To battle them, you must have beaten all three gym leaders from the novice tier. Master Tier: The master tier is the last mile and it is preparing you for Victory Road and the Elite Four. They are near each other other in North Orion and they are near Victory Road. These last two gym leaders are not only the toughest gym leaders to face, but defeating them grants the victor a slew of rewards. Though there are only two, they still do not have to be battled in any order and the only requirement is to have beaten the previous six gym leaders. Here is where you can find the gyms in their corresponding towns, the IC times that they are open and what tier they are in. Gym leader/Gym Name/Gym time -> Region -> Town -> Tier Tachi Chun-Hei - Lovely Legs Dance Studio - 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM - West Orion - Star Isle - Second Tier You can’t just barge into a gym on your first day though. In order to challenge a gym you must have at least two pokemon and one completed topic. You also cannot challenge the gyms consecutively, you will need at least 1 completed topic before moving onto the next. After the attaining of a trainer's first badge the trainer will have access to closed off locations such as the Safari Zone and Drakefang Mountain. After defeating the intermediate tier, a trainer is officially allowed to purchase a Mega-Accessory. If they have any pokemon capable of Mega Evolution and the respective stone, they will be legally allowed to use this power in battle (so long as it's within the laws of humane treatment of all). Victory Road and the Elite Four When your trainer has bested all 8 gym leaders, they can then pass the badge gate that seals off Victory Road and start their journey to the Elite Four. Though there are many dangerous pokemon and skilled trainers on this path, it is mostly a spiritual journey and there are many ways to get to the same waterfall that is at the end of the road. Rumor has it that no two trainers take the same path and experience the same things. When you manage to get to the waterfall, you will find a flowered path that leads to a magnificent silvery, five-story building. And to the left of it, a small pokemon center to give you one last rest before your final challenge as a pokemon trainer. What lies beyond that silver building is something you, as a trainer, will have to discover. Edited by NeebyNebula, Aug 8 2016, 08:41 PM.

Contests and Contest Halls For more information on being a coordinator, click here. Non-violent, flashy and a little over-the-top, contests are the counterpart of gyms in Orion. And there are several things that differentiate them but contests are no less competitive than gyms. Some of the main differences between contest halls and gyms are:
More About Pokemon Coordinating Here are a few more things coordinators need to know about. Presentation and Performance: In order to win a contest, one has to have the most cumulative points of both the presentation and performance of the category, each scoring a maximum of 50 points each, with 100 being the perfect score for the whole contest. Presentation In presentation, the coordinator will be judged by how well he/she uses the platform space given to them and the general appeal of their pokemon. This is where accessories and poffins/poyo comes in. You get 25 points right off the bat if your pokemon has maxed out their competing category with poffins or poyo. (read more about this below). The other 25 points is judged if you used the space given to you well. You will be given a small platform, much like that of a medium sized folding table, to come up with a theme for your pokemon and to decorate both your pokemon and the table to match that theme. An example would be you competing in the ‘Cool’ contest with your cleffa. You decide to go with a ‘space theme’. To compliment this theme, you paint the table black and use blue puffs and white puffs to imitate the galaxy and the stars and plenty of glitter powder to decorate the table and Cleffa. And to seal the deal, your Cleffa will be holding a comet to show off to the judges. This presentation would score a full 50 points for matching theme accessories and assuming a maxed out cool cleffa. Note that themes can be multi-categorical. The space theme example could easily fit into clever, beauty and cute as well, but probably wouldn’t carry over well into the tough category. Also note that a cleffa was used as the example pokemon for ‘cool’. Any pokemon can compete in any category without it influencing the judge's decision. So yes, your onix can be cute and your caterpie can be tough, and win. Performance Now this is the real deal. Not only will the judges be giving you your score this part of the contest, but so will the audience. While the judges will be watching your act for the objective view, such as if it was clear that you put a lot of thought and time into the performance and if your pokemon is responding on cue, but the audience will be cheering you on if it looks awesome. Appealing to the judges is the first 25, but the audience participation is also 25. If it’s flashy, if it’s sparkly, or even if it manages to amaze, the audience will love the act and your pokemon! Like the presentation, the performance and what your pokemon does is entirely up to you, the coordinator. Using the moveset that your pokemon has, you have to figure out a performance that conveys the aesthetic that you are competing for. Categories ust like battles, there are stats that influence a certain aesthetic trait in pokemon. Poffins and poke yogurt (poyo) directly affect these traits. You can buy poyo [here] or you can buy a poffin maker in a general pokemart for 100 stars and make your own! There are five traits every pokemon has. These traits are categorized as cool, tough, beautiful (beauty), smart, and cute. Coordinators work on maxing out one or multiple categories to give them a higher chance in winning contests, as maxing these stats drastically change the aesthetic look of a pokemon. But, no matter what happens or how hard a coordinator may try, a pokemon can only have 3 stats maxed out, with the other 2 being unable to go past a certain point (9). When a pokemon has reached halfway through the threshold, their physical looks and movements change slightly. When they have fully reached that threshold, their physical looks and movements change drastically. Poffins, Poyo, and accessories: Poffins Each category has a certain threshold of 10 it can reach before being maxed, and every pokemon has each category starting out at 0. Luckily this threshold isn’t very difficult to obtain. Poffins come in three categories: Average, Great, and Superior. They also come in 5 flavors, each correlating to the category they raise; Bitter- Smart, Spicy-Cool, Sweet-Cute, Dry-Beauty, Sour-Tough. When you make poffins in your poffin maker, the poffin maker will inform you what type of poffin it is (such as a sweet[cute] poffin) and the quality of the poffin. An average sweet poffin will raise the pokemon’s cute aesthetic by 1. A great sweet poffin will raise the stat by 3. A superior sweet poffin will raise the stat by 5, which means a pokemon would only need to eat 2 great poffins of the same category in order to have that category maxed. Remember: Only 3 categories can be maxed. Once three thresholds have been reached, the other two can only reach 9 before being capped. It takes 5 berries to make a single poffin. Any berry can be used but only these berries directly contribute to a category. In order to make an average poffin, 3 of the 5 berries used have to be of the same category. In order to make a great poffin, 4 of the 5 berries used have to be of the same category. In order to make a superior poffin, 5 of the 5 berries used have to be of the same category. If you used 3 or more berries that do not directly contribute to a category OR you simply did not have a majority of any berry in a category, you will only make a rainbow poffin. It randomly raises 2 stats by 1 but increases your pokemon’s happiness. Because rainbow poffins taste the best! *When making poffins with the poffin maker, inform a mod what berries you will be using and they will let you know what poffin and quality it makes. *When your pokemon consumes a rainbow poffin or poyo, inform a mod and they will use a randomizer and inform you which stats were raised. Pokeyogurt/Poyo: Premade delicious treats. Again, they can be bought [here] and it’s pretty self explanatory. Accessories: These are the tools you will use in your presentation and on/with your pokemon to increase your score. You can find them normally through encounters or they can given to you through topic evaluation rewards. Or, you can find a limited amount of accessories in the pokemart. Remember if you class as a coordinator you have a 40% higher chance of finding an accessory/being awarded an accessory over anything else. Again, for more information on being a coordinator, click here. Edited by NeebyNebula, Aug 8 2016, 08:53 PM.

Legendary Pokemon! So you wanna capture and contain a legendary pokemon, eh? Wanna conquer the skies with a Rayquaza or explore unknown depths with Lugia? Well you can’t. For one, legendary pokemon cannot ever be caught, let alone will you get an opportunity to do an even 1 on 1 battle with them. They are legendary for a reason. They are more rare than the rarest of pokemon and more dangerous to battle than the Elite Four. But because they are legendary and awesome, you will still be able to encounter them. They can only be discovered through a dynamic encounter, and it will mostly be your character spotting the legendary and they may or may not get an opportunity to interact with it (not battling it). The only exception to this is if a legendary pokemon is causing damage to a city or going on a rampage. Then only the toughest people are sent to subdue or chase away the legendary pokemon; and that’s rangers. Of course, only the highest ranked rangers will get these dangerous assignments. Site plot Soon ! PC Boxes When you first access a PC Box, found in all pokemon centers, pokemarts and POI’s, you will be required to register with your Trainer ID and link to it with your fingerprint. It’s an extra level of security because PC boxes and their purpose is very important! First, we’ll explain what PC boxes are, realistically. They are like a pokemon bank that transfers your pokemon (that’s inside of it’s pokeball) to a predetermined space for your specific character. This space is kin to the vault of a bank and every character can store 1,000 pokeballs/pokemon in this space. Don’t worry about this bank ever being robbed though, the location is heavily guarded, outside of the region of Orion and, of course, top-secret. You can link your PC box with your trainer ID and fingerprint by simply scanning your ID card onto the machine. This is an important step to take (but you don’t have to RP this step. You can simply say your character already did it.) because it will allow you to freely use the Global Trade Network with just your holocaster and your trainer ID, without having to travel to Central Orion. On an ending note, when a trainer ‘dies’ (their character is given up by the owner), their pokemon in storage are accessed by the government and released into the wild. These pokemon will not be encounterable to other trainers. Global Trade Network If you are a Pokemon Breeder, The Global Trade Network is something a little more different than what the average trainer sees. For more information on Pokemon Breeders and their exclusive access to the GTN, click here. For all you other Toms, Dicks, and Harrys listen up! Every trainer who has connected their ID with the PC Boxes, is immediately registered into the Global Trade Network. You can enter the name of the pokemon you are looking for (can be further specified by gender), and what you are offering to trade for it. Whether your trade goes through is decided not only by time, but by moderator's decision. The level may or may not be equal to the level of your pokemon. You can also search pokemon offered by other trainers to see what they are looking for. This list changes thread by thread and is given to you by a moderator. Simply ask for it in an encounter request. Again, there may not be trainers in Orion who are offering the pokemon you are looking for or they might want something you don't even have. Lastly, you can trade pokemon with faraway RPC's of other writers. By agreeing with each other what you would want to trade, you can RP the GTN trade by looking up each other's trainers ID, or simply submit an encounter request with the other writer posting that they approve of the trade. Ask a moderator if you need any help! |
