In order to capture a pokemon, there are a couple of things you ought to note. 1. You can have anybody you want NPC the wild pokemon - however, this does depend on the pokemon. Commonly found pokemon can be NPC'd by anybody, but rarer pokemon must be NPC'd by a staff member and Legendaries...well, that's something else entirely. Read the Legendary Pokemon topic for information on these. 2. Remember to bring pokemon to battle the wild pokemon, and carry pokeballs to catch it. 3. Once per month, you may befriend a Wild Pokemon instead of battling and capturing it. Some pokemon might require multiple threads to befriend. If you wish to befriend a pokemon, you must state so when the pokemon is first revealed. It's up to a moderator to determine if you have successfully befriended a pokemon during the grading of your RP. Failure means you can continue trying to befriend the pokemon in a new RP - just remember to link to that previous thread so the moderator who grades the new one knows about it! 4. Whether you successfully capture a pokemon or not is determined by a moderator at any point that the pokemon may be caught (it is entirely mod opinion. Mods found doing favors and acting unreasonably in this regard will be reprimanded). 5. Shadow pokemon are banned, and so are snag machines. Sorry people, but you must either trade or catch a pokemon. 6. In order to encounter a pokemon that isn't common to the area (see: common pokemon in the post below), a mod will make an OOC post in your thread with a random roll using the [roll] function. Depending on the number you get you will encounter a different pokemon. The numbers change depending on location. When you finish a battle, whether you win or lose you'll be awarded XP at the end of the topic. You'll be awarded 50% of what you could have gotten should you fight a wild pokemon - even if you catch it - but 100% should you fight a trainer (that was NPC'd or was a PC). Common Pokemon - these are pokemon that you can find at any point, providing you're in the correct region. You are allowed to make these pokemon appear in your RP whenever you wish. There are 20 for each region.

Random Encounters This is an optional system that technically, you never have to use. Rather than having a Wild Pokemon Encounter, trainers can instead choose to have a Random Encounter. Random Encounters are still quite likely to produce a Wild Pokemon Encounter, but they also have other possibilities tied in! When a player wants a Random Encounter, the mod will secretly roll from 1 to 100. From there, they will consult the following table to determine what the random encounter is!
Encounters Explained Regular Trainer Encounter: You encounter another trainer, to be NPC'd. This trainer may be seeking their help with a problem, may want to battle, etc. Up to the NPCer. Trainers from the NPC Archive will likely be used, but otherwise the trainer may be made up on the spot. The NPC trainer's pokemon should be of similar level to the player's pokemon. Hostile Trainer Encounter: In this case, you encounter a member of Team Rocket, or Plasma, or whatever. Perhaps it's just an ordinary thief. Whatever the case, this NPC represents some form of danger - perhaps they want to steal your pokemon, perhaps they've got some sort of larger evil plan, or perhaps they're working for someone who does. This encounter could even span multiple RP's, or develop into a real plotline, if both the player and NPCer are willing. Important Encounter: The actual importance of this encounter may vary. Essentially, you meet some sort of important NPC - a gym leader, E4 member, etc. Perhaps that person wants you to run an errand, or wants to see what you're capable of, etc. This encounter is very open to interpretation and could go in a multitude of different ways. Dangerous Encounter: In this case, you run into something or someone you're probably not prepared to take on, or something bad starts to happen. An avalanche as you're walking up a mountain, a stampede of Tauros, etc. Essentially, you find yourself suddenly thrust into a very dangerous situation! Lucky Encounter: Your luck is rewarded by coming across something good! The mod will generate a number from 1 to 3: 1 = some unusual type of pokeball (up to 5 of them), 2 = a random TM or HM, 3 = a random pokemon Egg (native to the region)! Note that Lucky Encounters will have some type of challenge presented to obtain the "reward". For example, if you find and pick up an egg from the side of the road, then perhaps a Team Rocket member chooses that moment to jump out and challenge you for it. |
