Weather
The first great snowfall of a few days prior has coated the lands in a shining white that many would say is beauty embodied. The trees glimmer and chime with ice on their branches, and the evergreens are more vibrant and lively looking than at any other time in the year. The skies are cloudless, and with nothing to insulate the earth, temperatures drop low enough to be dangerous for long amounts of exposure at night.

The Battle in Belfhaste Harbor is about to commence; all interested parties should report post-haste

The ice that has taken over the water has finally begun to thin; once it has melted entirely, normal naval activity can resume, as most ships are incapable of traversing such dangerous obstacles as enormous hull-piercing shards of ice. Most ships...

Name: Phil Argyris

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Country: Lascia

Class: Vigilante

Starting Town: Lughbaidh

Chosen Weapon: Short Bow

Biography: My past? I can’t really say much about my earliest days because like many other humans, I can’t remember back that far. Don’t go around searching for details anywhere else, though. There’s nobody in this world who can tell you what I was like in my infancy. That’s right. I’m one of those orphans who never got to meet his real parents.

It wasn’t all bad, though. As far back as I can remember, I was taken in and raised by a man by the name of Cyriacus Argyris. His attitude didn’t match that of your stereotypical gentleman; in fact, it was quite the opposite. He was often rude and obnoxious to other people and most of the time, he cared about little more than himself. Despite that, he still treated my like many fathers would to their sons, even though we both knew that he wasn’t my real father.

My “father” was a member of a Caledonian mercenary troupe and was very skilled in the ways of archery. As his adopted son, I was naturally accepted as part of the group but I wasn’t immediately accepted as a fighter; just as extra weight and another mouth to feed. Needless to say, I wasn’t very useful to the group. Cyracius strongly believed this and started to teach me how to use a bow properly when I reached the age of ten.

In those days, I did little more than eat, sleep, and practice with the bow. Whenever I goofed up, especially in front of my father, I would only try harder to keep getting better. I practiced and practiced hard every day and to my father’s and my own surprise, I was a quick learner when it came to using a bow. I started to use the bow competently after only a few months and only a year after my father began giving me lessons, I was able to use a bow properly.

Even though I could use a bow as well as some average adult archers at the age of eleven, the mercenary group’s leader, Lothar Nolan, would not allow me to tag along on one of the team’s jobs until I reached the age of twelve. Instead, I was forced to stay behind and wait at the camp or at the local inn, whichever was more convenient at the time.

Life wasn’t lonely back in those days that I was left behind, though. Instead of being left behind on my own, I stayed with Maria Nolan and Rebecka Nolan. If it’s not already obvious given their last names, Maria and Rebecka were members of Lothar’s family. Maria was Lothar’s daughter and my “childhood sweetheart” if you want to call her that. While I practiced my archery skills to pass the time, she would spend a lot of time studying. At least once a day, one of us would interrupt the other for a chat.

In our eyes, it was a simple, innocent friendship. To Lothar, it was a relationship; one that he disapproved of. Eventually, he forced me to accompany the rest of the fighters on a mission at the age of twelve instead of waiting until I was fifteen like he originally planned. The job was to take out a certain group of bandits; a seemingly easy task.

The task was easy and we routed the bandits in no time but as we were leaving, disaster struck. Apparently, one of the lords of Caledonia sent out a group led by one of his own vassals for the same task. The vassal’s group saw us on our way out of the Forest of Arsaidh, where the bandits’ hideout was located, and assumed that we were the bandits. Without hesitation, the leader ordered his men to attack us and take no prisoners. Before the battle started, my father told me to stay hidden while shoving me behind a bush. As a result, I fell to the ground, hit my head on a large tree root, and fell unconscious.

I woke up later to find that the battle had ended and that my side had lost. I saw dead bodies from both sides of the battle but I could see that most of the dead bodies were my companions. The survivors on the enemy’s side had already left, taking most of my companions’ valuables with them. And if that wasn’t bad enough, what I saw when I went back to camp made my day even worse.

After seeing what happened on the battlefield, I ran back to base camp only to find that it was on fire. The scoundrel who started the fire was still at the scene of the crime. I didn’t care who he was at the time and why he was doing it. All I did was take out my bow and an arrow, aimed, fired the arrow towards him, and landed the shot right between the eyes.

Afterwards, I proceeded into the camp in search of Maria, hanging on to the small chance that she may still be alive. I called out her name constantly as I searched the burning campsite from top to bottom in search for her. I searched as long as my lungs could stand the heat and the smoke with no luck at all. Eventually, I ran out of the area to catch some fresh air and found footprints matching the soles of Maria’s sandals. Maria was able to escape, reassuring me that I was not the only survivor from the group. Once the flames had settled down, I went back into the camp to grab anything that either held monetary value or that could keep me alive on my own.

I didn’t know what to do after that. This was the first time in my life that I was truly alone. At first, I tried following her trail but I lost the trail soon afterwards. After that, I traveled aimlessly on my own; having no destination in mind at the time. I never saw Maria again and after a year, I erased all hope of ever finding her again and traveled to Lascia and settled down in the quiet city of Lughbaidh.

It’s been three years to this date since that sad day. I haven’t used my bow much since then, except for hunting occasionally. I haven’t practiced using my bow much since then. The day that Lothar expected me to prove that I was a true man dampened my courage enough to keep me away from using my bow for all these years and I honestly think that I may have started to lose my touch. Still, the money that’s kept me alive for all these years is starting to go low so I’m going to have to find a way to earn money and keep living.

After thinking hard about my life, what it used to be, and what it is now, I’ve decided to stop living in a fantasy that I should never use the bow again and go back to my old life on my own once again. Unfortunately, I had two problems: I had no income to buy supplies with and I had no Pokemon to accompany me. Both of these were solved after I helped a random elderly man shake off a wild Pokemon using my bow and a Pokeorb that he dropped.

After that, I was ready to begin my journey once again.

Appearance: My appearance? Well, since you can’t see me in person, I guess it’s a good idea to tell you here. I’m not a narcissist freak who looks in the mirror all the time so don’t complain if I’m a little off.

To be simple about the height and build of my body, I’m about five feet, three inches tall and I weigh about one hundred and forty pounds. Thanks to years of traveling, I’ve built up a decently athletic body, which is one of the main reasons that I was able to survive on my own for three whole years. Thanks to this athletic body, I can run away from danger or climb up a tree if the situation calls for it.

You won’t know what to look for or be able to recognize me if you don’t know what my face looks like. Other than my eyes and my hair, you won’t be able to see very many differences between me and other people. The facial features that make me truly unique are my eyes and my hair. Unlike normal people, my eyes are not blue, green, brown, or hazel. Instead, my eyes are a lavender color. My hair is a dark green color that would easily stand out even in a large crowd of people. Both of those make me very recognizable and were dead giveaways that I was not blood-related to anyone else in the mercenary troupe.

When it comes to my attire, I prefer to wear clothes that match the color of my hair. Fortunately, this also means that my choice of clothing also helps me blend in well with the forest. Unless I am forced to wear something else, I often wear a green tunic that runs down to my knees. I also wear hoes to cover my legs at the bottom. I used to wear leather armor to go with it but recently, I couldn’t afford it.

Personality: My personality? That’s easy. I’m a good-natured young boy who will help out anyone free of charge. I don’t care about fame and glory at all and I just wish to help people. …….You don’t believe me, do you? Fine! I’ll tell the truth.

Basically, I’m a mercenary in every sense of the word. No matter who I’m working for or what the job involves, I do it for the money. Of a vigilante like myself wants to live, then I can’t be picky about jobs and only choose jobs from people I know. If it’s a job that pays well for the trouble, then I take the job unless it involves something that would be troubling emotionally. I may be a vigilante but I’m still a free human.

When I’m not busy with a job and I have the freedom to relax and do whatever I want, I do one thing: travel. Most of my life has involved traveling around Caledonia alongside my companions in the mercenary troupe. Traveling is what I love most in life and settling down in Lughbaidh for two years hasn’t really been emotionally pleasing to me.

I don’t have much in the way of personal interests. In fact, I only have four real interests: archery, traveling, money, and nature. I already told you the reasons for the first two and the reason for the second should be pretty obvious. My love of nature came from my long history of traveling. Since most of my early life has been spent away from civilization, I quickly learned the beauties of nature and the importance of it on life.

Other than that, I’m a quiet yet kind young child. Some people say I can be an arrogant and selfish little brat sometimes but those claims are not true. I might be a little cocky sometimes but I usually try my best to hide it, especially when in the company of an employer or a potential employer.

RP Sample: I watched as the magical red sphere moved towards the last remaining critter from the group of wild Pokemon, eagerly waiting for it to tell me whether the capture was a success or a failure. The power of a single arrow was not one to laugh at. Though the arrow that injured this Pokemon was a shot that was slightly misaimed in a desperate moment, the single arrow was able to label me as a threat to the other three wild animals. I was glad that I hit the one of them, even if it didn’t hit the one I was aiming for.

A couple of seconds after traveling through the air, the Pokeorb made contact with the Pokemon and performed its own flashy light show as it sucked in the injured animal. The Pokemon disappeared into the sphere with the arrow still attached on its leg. At first, it looked to me like victory had been mine with the Pokemon trapped inside but I wasn’t quite aware that there was a little more to capturing than meets the eye.

”Stop! Don’t grab that orb until it stops rolling around!” Pacey shouted as I walked towards the orb, not realizing that it had started moving on its own. ”What the heck?” I thought as I watched it roll in place. ”Is that damned little creature getting out of its cell? I don’t remember Maria telling me about this when she told me about Pokeorbs four years ago…”

I waited for a few seconds like the elderly man told me to, hoping that the creature wouldn’t break out like I feared it would. In the end, the orb clicked and the Pokemon was captured. Apparently, this was worth the wait and the scare involved with using a Pokeorb for the first time. I captured my first Pokemon and saved an old man in the process. Mission accomplished.

There wasn’t much time for celebration after my first capture, though. While it was a glorious occasion for me, showing off my pleasure by yelling out to the world that I caught my first Pokemon would make me look like a complete idiot, which is not something I would want to do in the presence of a stranger. Pacey may be a retired adventurer who’s time may be coming to an end soon but I still wouldn’t want to give myself a bad image after saving his aging behind.

”My, how I wish to be young again!” he said as he started to walk towards me. ”Thanks for taking care of those things for me. If I was ten years younger, I would’ve been able to take ‘em out myself but alas, I’m getting old to be running around like I used to. Say, what are you planning to do in the future? Join the army? Become a hero? Save lives?”

I paused for a second, wondering how this old man could even think about such naïve things such as becoming a hero. Honestly, the only plans I had for my future involved becoming a vigilante and eventually gaining fame and recognition as a mercenary. Still, I wouldn’t want to be rude to the man who may be giving me a reward so I figured that I should still act polite.

”Honestly, I don’t care about being a hero or anything like that; I just wish to earn a living as a traveling mercenary. That’s all I ever want to be.” I told him as my response, speaking as politely as I could. I was getting tired of people talking and thinking about “big dreams” and stuff like that but despite my wish that this old man wasn’t so naïve, I still had an idea of what Pacey would say next.

”Well then, if you’re going to be traveling, then you’re going to need a few things to survive out there. You seem a little short on supplies. You’re not going to live long if you aren’t prepared! Here, take this. It’s not much but it’ll get you started.” he said as he handed me a satchel that was obviously weighed down by items inside. Why he had given me so much for a deed as simple as shooting an arrow and capturing a Pokemon with one of his Pokeorbs was beyond my comprehension but it’s best not to look at a gift horse in the mouth. If he wanted to give me so much for so little work, I wasn’t one to complain.

I looked down and got ready to open the bag to see the contents of it before I remembered that I was in the presence of another person. I looked up just in time to hear him speak again.
”Well, sonny, I’ve gotta go. I was on my way to see my family when those Pokemon started chasing me. If I don’t get back soon, my granddaughter will get impatient. Thanks for saving me and good luck on your adventures!”

After that, Pacey started running back towards town. For one so old, he sure seemed to have a lot of energy. If he managed to get all the way to town without collapsing and/or breaking his back, I would be surprised. Still, I wouldn’t want my thoughts to reflect my actions so I waved goodbye as I said ”See ya, Pacey!” as he was running off.

Now that that was finally taken care of, I could check out the contents of the satchel Pacey gave me as my reward. I opened up a pouch to find that it was filled with supplies for one like me to start off a journey. Inside, I found three purple bottles, five more Pokeorbs just like the one I caught my first Pokemon in, a rope, a spiral-bound notebook titled “Pokepedia,” and a flint and tinder. Though it was a simple and unofficial job, I’m still pleased with the reward. The satchel contained no money, though. Therefore, I had to rely on what little money I have left for now.

Now, I was completely ready to start my new adventure. I had supplies, a small amount of money, my old bow, a Pokemon at my side for further protection, and the willpower to use the bow again. Nothing would stop me from regaining my old, lost pride now. Unfortunately, all the excitement from what just happened has also tired me out. I felt it was time to go back to Lughbaidh to take a little rest before taking off on my own. With that in mind, I started on my way back to Lughbaidh.
