Weather
The first great snowfall of a few days prior has coated the lands in a shining white that many would say is beauty embodied. The trees glimmer and chime with ice on their branches, and the evergreens are more vibrant and lively looking than at any other time in the year. The skies are cloudless, and with nothing to insulate the earth, temperatures drop low enough to be dangerous for long amounts of exposure at night.

The ice that has taken over the water has finally begun to thin; once it has melted entirely, normal naval activity can resume, as most ships are incapable of traversing such dangerous obstacles as enormous hull-piercing shards of ice. Most ships...

Appearance:

Larissa Stornaway is a lady who wishes to exude finesse and grace which is why she attempts to look her best at all possible times. Her hair is a mixture of natural gold, red and blonde shades all aflutter in the wind in varied wavy lengths. Her fringe constantly falls onto her eyes, sometimes managing to completely hide the bright turquoise eyes from view. However, she endeavors to keep them brushed to the side as she sees the locks as an aesthetic obstruction to sight. The fringe is annoying yet lovely, so she can’t possibly allow herself to live without it. Her face is usually pale, but when in a locale where she finds the weather unusual, her cheeks tint a light pink which sets off the light red shade of her lips quite nicely.

Her frame is quite slender, but she’s more top-heavy than she would like as it interferes with her archery. Still Larissa finds the size of her chest manageable enough, so she only resorts to binding occasionally. Often irritated by the bulge in her tummy, this Vassal enjoys running half a kilometer daily in the hopes of reducing its size. Her efforts have failed as of late.

Her legs and arms are toned thanks to her archery and morning runs, but being the perfectionist that she is, that’s not enough. Longing to achieve an even better body, Larissa continues with her exercising. Her arms are a bit muscular, but thanks to her skin, they are still soft, and in her opinion, feminine. Her fingers are long, and their tips curve skywards slightly.

It’s about time to zoom out though, don’t you agree? From afar, Larissa looks to be another pretty face without a say on anything. Her height is more or less average, only around 5 feet and 3 inches. Her frame is slender, and her skin tone is pale. However, there is something different about her. It’s her countenance which you can pick up just by seeing her. There’s an air about her that says “I’m going to make a difference, and I’m going to perfect that change.”

  • “Oh, do you wish for a picture of me or something of the sort? Perhaps for security on your part… My mother had this portrait of me painted a month or so ago. Pardon me for my expression.”

Personality:

From childhood, everyone around Larissa had always known that she had the tendencies of a perfectionist. It was not only that she would work at something until she was so tired, she would slumber in tears. A number of telltale signs were always present, and her parents were delighted at having such an ambitious child. It was, however, to the displeasure of her siblings who found that her fastidiousness was a mere front, designed to hide a need for attention. This may have been true for Larissa had always basked in attention. Unknowingly, she might have done something for approval, even a gesture as casual as a nod. Nonetheless, Larissa’s character did not end in merely being an attention hoarder.

Larrissa Stornaway believed in the innate capability of all beings to improve. Despite her siblings’ dislike of her constant passion for the improvement of self, they did enjoy it when she would approach them and tell them how well they did and how they could be even better. It was another aspect in her character, knowing what to say and how to go about it. Of course, there were people with whom she could never manage to say the right things which she found to be a most disagreeable matter. When encountering those types of people, her temper would easily flare up, and harsh bitter words that ordinarily would never ever leave her tongue would seep out in a frenzy of high-pitched sounds. It was a fault that she preferred to keep to herself as most people she encountered found her wonderfully congenial.

Good education was also part of the principles that governed Larissa’s life. To her, education was a must, and those who were not given the opportunity for such were to be pitied. Those who chose not to learn, on the other hand, were to be disliked, and in extreme cases of idiocy and ignorance, were to be loathed as well. There were times when she was little that her parents could not finance her fees for schooling, so she had to stop. However, Larissa did not allow that to stop her. Instead, in those times when prejudice against females was stronger, she would pick up a book and study voraciously. Her hobbies began to include reading and writing.

Due to this love for education, Larissa was oftentimes strict about things related to it. Her sweetness and amiability was lessened when she was in one of those fervent enlightening moods in which she tried to teach those around her, especially herself. It came to no one’s surprise that Larissa had tried to train a number of wild Pokemon; however, she always failed in those pursuits.

Under pressure, Larissa tried her best to stay calm, but her tongue was often more sharp and loose when stressed. As a result, she would do her best to keep her distance from all animate beings to prevent harmed feeling and wounded egos. After all, she was a stubborn one. She would hate for others to harbor resentment for her simply because of her obstinacy and irritation.

  • “My lieges, I hope that my character should be understood by you as I spend my days in your service. However, I am quick to say that I strive for improvement. It is my way.”

Biography:

It was on a cold winter morning that the third infant was born to Mr and Mrs Stornaway. The baby refused to cry even as she was slapped on the derriere several times, and it worried the parents to think that perhaps the child would die because it refused to cry. Such was the stubbornness that innately belonged to Larissa. Then there was a strong whack on the back, and Larissa could no longer endure it. Her tiny mouth opened wide and let loose a scream that seemed to be music to her parents as it showed life.

Years passed, and two more children were borne to Larissa’s parents. The little girl had not yet discovered her passion for education. She only knew that she loved to play with her older siblings, one brother and two sisters. However, her siblings had to go to school, and her parents had work to do. Larissa was left alone to play with the rag dolls her sisters had made themselves. Recalling her siblings’ stories of the place called school, she fancied herself to be a teacher, and the dolls were her students. Every afternoon, Larissa would meet her brother at the door and ask him about what he had learned.

Through those mini lessons, Larissa became the governess to two unsuspecting dolls, and each day, she would long for the courtyard her brother would describe, along with its students and teachers. One day she asked her mother if she could visit the place her siblings always went to. Surprised by the request, her mother agreed. Larissa being the quietest child, and the one who seemed to need least attention, she hardly asked for anything, so her mother was willing to do her a favor.

When Larissa stepped into the place called school, she knew where she wanted to be. Turning to her mother, she begged to be allowed to go. “Oh, please, mummy. I want to learn,” she said. Her mother nodded. A woman called teacher was consulted. The matter was settled. Larissa would be in school the very next day.

In school, Larissa was immediately seen as an achiever. All of the teachers found her to be bright little girl; her classmates enjoyed her flattery and compliments. Larissa was more or less doted on for the first few weeks, but her classmates soon got tired of hearing her teachers commend her and hearing Larissa’s kind words. They began to think of her as an insufferable know-it-all who tried too hard to be liked. Soon the other children had begun shying away from her. At first, Larissa found the change to be imperceptible, so she continued to approach the others with the same kind of flattering attitude. Then the others began to ignore her outright, and Larissa realized what had happened. They, like some of her siblings, had disliked her- misunderstood her sincerity.

Months after that realization, Larissa and her family moved. As soon as she was in school, she tried to keep to herself for the most part, but that backfired as well. She earned the reputation of a snobby over-achiever which distressed Larissa. Nonetheless her love for learning never wavered. However, she knew not how to go about changing her reputation. Unwittingly she chose to do nothing about the way she was known.

Another move to another town years later brought Larissa to a conclusion. She wanted other to like her. Not everyone had to, but she just wanted people to see her as someone friendly. It was then she decided to consult her brother Leon. He had only a few words for her. “Just be yourself. Be nice.” The words have been imprinted on Larissa so well that she sometimes considers them to be her life’s code.

The next day in school she was herself. No, she was not acting like herself again. Instead, for the first time in school, she allowed herself to behave as she truly wished. Her conversational voice was a bit louder than it should have been, but it endeared her to her schoolmates since it made her more real. This time she chose her friends rather than try to make a friend out of everyone.

Her friends happened to be the kind of people who valued valor, honor and service the most. Nearly all in her clique dreamed of becoming a Vassal. At first, Larissa had no idea what that was, so she merely pretended to understand them. After all, she was usually the one they went to ask for information on most subjects. However, her ignorance was exposed on one fateful day when a Vassal came riding past on a Rapidash. All of her friends gasped and whispered excitedly to each other, but Larissa acted indifferent since she had only vague ideas about Vassals in general. One friend poked her in the side and asked what she thought about the Vassal’s job. That was when Larissa froze. There was nothing she could say on the matter, so she admitted after a minute of silence that she knew next to nothing about her friends’ dream occupation.

Laughing, her friend related to the others her discovery. Then they dragged Larissa closer to the Vassal and began to explain everything they knew related to the job. Intrigued by what she learned from her friends, Larissa went home and studied as much as she could about Vassals, the history, the people and such. By the time her friends saw her the following day, she was as interested in Vassals as they were.

Her new passion for Vassals prompted her to learn how to wield a weapon. Sending a letter to Leon who had moved away as a seaman, she only hoped that he would give her sound advice on what to do. The response arrived a fortnight from then, so she was caught between joy for finally receiving the letter and irritation at the pace it was brought to her. However, she ignored her mixed emotions and read the letter which told her to focus on archery rather than swordsmanship as her lithe yet small figure would better suit the bow and arrows as opposed to swords built for the burly.

A week later her father had managed to borrow a bow and arrow for her to practice with. A friend of his became her teacher, and she trained rigorously for the next few months alongside schooling. It proved fruitful for her though as her friends and teacher commended her improvement in archery. She felt to be one step closer in becoming a Vassal.

A couple of years later, Larissa and her family moved again, but with her she carried her ambition of becoming a Vassal and rising in the ranks. Her friends still kept in touch with her, and among the stories told, she learned of a Lord and Lady in the Ancient Forest of Ae. They were unique from the other lieges her friends had told her of, but they did not seem as odd as the Dread Pirate Roberts. At sixteen years of age, Larissa was sure who she wished to serve. She even caught herself envisioning being in the service of Serena and Gliocas Willow. After obtaining permission from her parents to set forth and begin her own life’s journey, Larissa left in search of Airgialla and its governors.
  • “I think my past is free from any major crimes and the like. My parents have attended to my education to the best of my abilities, and my family is currently in a town not far from here. I wish to see them after sometime; however, I think that it would be an unlikely event. We used to move quite often. I do miss my older brother Leon terribly though…”

Exhausted from days of travel, Larissa rested against the trunk of an old tree. She shut her eyes and hoped to find sleep. However, within seconds, she heard the distinct sounds of people, many people, at work. Looking up, she found a number of people running about, jumping from branch to branch. Amazed by the sight, Larissa rose to her feet and ascended the tree. After reaching a sturdy branch, she brushed her hair out of the way and surveyed the area. There were people all over the place, and she was now a part of the area albeit only as a visitor.

Noting that nearly everyone was in some sort of uniform, Larissa thought to herself that the place must be incredibly orderly. She moved about, looking for some sort of map. Her previous grogginess was forgotten. Finally here in Airgialla, there was not a minute to spare. Anyone here could be Lord and Lady Willow, and she must present herself to them at once.

However, her spirit wavered considerably after an hour of fruitless searching. Still unable to find the route to the Lord and Lady, Larissa decided to put her charms at work. She approached a woman standing by what she thought to be a store. “Good day, milady.” Here she curtsied slightly, her head bowed in greeting. “I am a traveler who seeks the Lord and Lady Willow of Argialla. Pray tell, would you tell me the way to them?”

Deciding to say only the necessities seemed to be about right to Larissa. There was no need to explain that she had plans of presenting herself as a possible Vassal. All the woman needed to know of her was that she was indeed a traveler and wished to see the Lord and Lady. That should be enough to make her less wary of her if she ever was at all.

The lady smiled kindly at her and held up a finger. Then she rushed into the store and came back with some parchment in her hands. Placing it in Larissa’s fingers, she pointed to the right and bade her good luck and farewell. Larissa returned the assistance with a smile of her own and some grateful words and an adieu. Then she turned away and went on her way.

The map turned out to be immensely useful and accurate. Everything was listed, and all the important landmarks were easily spotted both on the map and in the vicinity. Soon she found herself in front of an edifice which was labeled on the map as “The Office of the Lord and Lady of Airgialla.” For the first time since Larissa left home, she doubted herself. Now that she was finally close to reaching her goal, the danger of failing became ever more significant. ‘There is much to lose’, she thought. However, there is everything to gain, is there not?’

Larissa spied a man who she presumed to be a guard, and she approached him, her reddish blonde curls flying back as she rushed. He seemed unperturbed by her sudden appearance before him, and before she could explain her reason for coming, he sent her in. “The Lord and Lady said that they were expecting some prospective Vassals over today. You look to be one of them.”

Blinking in surprise, Larissa asked his meaning, but he said nothing more on the subject, only waving her on. Thus, Larissa entered the structure, hoping that what he had said was meant in good will. The place seemed to be a maze to her; however, she found the hallway she wanted at last. There was a large door at the end of it, and she tiptoed to reach it, hating the sound of her footsteps in the quiet. Finally she was before the door, and she halted, her mind ablaze with all sorts of thoughts. Some were optimistic and full oh hope, but most were ones that forced her to stand precariously on the edge of the cliff of her mind. Shutting her eyes to the world, Larissa took in a large gulp of air. It was now or never, and there was no way she was going to allow herself to choose never. She raised her fist to the door and knocked. Once. Twice. Three times.

The door pulled open, and Larissa took a step back, surprised by the sudden movement. It couldn’t be that the Lord and Lady were to greet her at the door! That would have been too improper. She couldn’t even allow herself to consider the thought for more than a moment. She was right. A servant came from behind the door. Looking Larissa up and down, the servant pointed to the bow and arrows hanging from a pouch on Larissa’s back. “Leave those here. The Lord and Lady cannot have any visitors with weapons.”

Larissa nodded and handed the weapons to the servant who threw them to the side in a pile of weaponry. Although noticing the shocked look on Larissa’s face, the servant offered no explanation. He merely pointed towards an even larger and more official-looking doll further down the hallway.

Pacing down the hall past the servant, she looked back quickly with a polite smile. Finally she was before yet another door, and she knocked as she did with the previous one. The servant who asked her to leave the weapons came running towards Larissa and huffing slightly, he pushed the door open. Larissa was then asked to enter the room, and as soon as she was inside, the door was shut. She found herself face to face with the twins who she wished to serve. She fell to her knees and bowed her head in reverence. “Milord and milady, I am your humble servant, Larissa Stornaway from a town not far from here. I wish to become a Vassal to serve you for as long as you wish to keep me. I…”

Raising her head to see the silver-haired Lord and Lady, Larissa was struck with the thought that these were the people she had just sworn herself to. What would she do if they said no, if they sent her away? Larissa bowed her head once more and hoped for the best. “Lord and Lady Willow, I wish to be of service to you. Allow me to be your Vassal, and you shall have yourself a faithful servant, one who will not desert you.”

She raised her head once more and smiled. It was now or never. Larissa had picked now.
