Weather
The first great snowfall of a few days prior has coated the lands in a shining white that many would say is beauty embodied. The trees glimmer and chime with ice on their branches, and the evergreens are more vibrant and lively looking than at any other time in the year. The skies are cloudless, and with nothing to insulate the earth, temperatures drop low enough to be dangerous for long amounts of exposure at night.

The Battle in Belfhaste Harbor is about to commence; all interested parties should report post-haste

The ice that has taken over the water has finally begun to thin; once it has melted entirely, normal naval activity can resume, as most ships are incapable of traversing such dangerous obstacles as enormous hull-piercing shards of ice. Most ships...

Our thief in denial watched with pure awe as her Pokemon carried out her instructions to the T. Not only did both unleash a powerful storm of a technique, trashing the Lascians' sense of order and working in perfect tandem, but they also did it without killing anyone. Or so Lucianna assumed; screaming in pain was a great sign that someone was still alive. As such, that bout of orders had been executed perfectly, and the girl could hardly contain herself. She showered the pair in rushed praise, telling them how happy she was with their doings.

Survival instinct soon kicked in, though, and she forced a calm upon her body, so that they wouldn't all die. Not that she was thinking of it like that. She tugged for Acker to get back down in cover too, a prone position best suiting their stealth. Lacrima followed suit, though he still really didn't need to. And so they were all lying down for the brief moment that Luci continued her plan, scanning across the scenery for anything of service to her efforts.

Though she didn't find any such occurrences, one of greater interest presented itself. There was smoke billowing out from beyond the troop she was attacking, and that could only mean one thing; fire. Luci weighed up the chances that it was related to the thunderbolts which started the whole thing, and more precisely the assumed Caledonian who was sparking it off. She made, in that moment, a compassionate and smart decision to go over there, since the thick sky-bound soot could only mean they were in trouble, and she would likely find greater strength and security in numbers.

To get there, though, she would have to carve a way through 50 soldiers... Or go around them, and still risk being seen and attacked. So she needed a diversion. Or at least something to help her before she escaped to the burning. And that was when an idea was recycled in her mind. With as predominant a haste as she could managed, Lucianna found the bottle of whiskey she had in her bag, and some of the parchment paper too. She soaked the paper in the alcohol, and throwing the cap away, retrieved her fire-making kit she had stolen a long, long time ago. It had saved her on countless cold nights, and it might just save her again.

She set about making the fire, beating the flint together until the tinder took hold. She would do this until she got a flame going on her tinder, or she was otherwise attacked. From there, she would put the fire to the parchment in the bottle, ensuring it took hold, which considering it was cigar paper, should do so nicely. Once it was slowly ticking down like a fuse, she would hand it to Acker, with the direct instructions to use Mind Reader to improve his accuracy, then throw it just to the right of the nearest soldiers. Once he succeeded, they would all become distracted by that small explosion as the vapours ignited, and Luci would be able to continue on to her left, and arch around the whole regiment unnoticed in the madness. On top of this, before Acker threw, she would head a few feet left, and him a few right, putting hopefully 10 feet between them, before he threw. The moment he threw, she would recall him to his orb, from distance, and make her move. He would be returned to the field once she could see the hopefully existent Caledonian. This was all still an idea based on her assumption she ignited the tinder, and if not, they would wait here.

"Lacrima, you did amazin' so far! Keep i' up, an' keep guar'! If any'un gets even sorta near, you's go'a take 'em wi' a Bone Club or som'at, whils' le'in' me know, 'kay?" she said to her second Pokemon, who looked like he needed a slightly easier time anyway. She would obviously use her dagger if need be, but hopefully not.

The tinder sparked itself off rather nicely after Lucianna's preparatory soaking, and caught the paper almost instantly. It had been well taken care of in Lucianna's pack, and was dry and perfectly usable as the day it had been made. It was a pity, too, considering how expensive paper was, that it would have to go up in smoke like this. But such was life; better the paper than her existence, which was a fairly self-evident possibility in the face of a small army.

As planned, the little flame travelled swiftly along the paper and towards the remains of the alcohol still in the bottle, and as quickly as possible without dropping and losing her prized new weapon, she passed it off to Acker who shot up and dodged a few feet to the right before drawing one arm back and pitching the bottle through the air. Thanks to inertia and other forces of physics, nothing spilled from the bottle as it spun through the air, and with easy precision it smacked the ground beside one of the foot solders. A little spurt of flame burst into existence beside him and he yelped and umped to the side like a scared rabbit, dropping his weapon amidst the flame. It looked like a sword, so it wouldn't be harmed, just very hot.

He, certainly, had no inkling of where it had come from, but with eyes out in all directions, there was most assuredly one soldier who saw the Hitmonchan tossing the bottle, and she saw too the bolt of red energy that consumed him, emanating from the Pokemon's left, and after a whispered word to her Commanding Officer, Kellandria, and received a nod of permission, she shouted to two of her fellow riders and started off in the same direction as Lucianna at a fair enough speed, not fast enough to trample anyway, but far faster than a young girl could hope to crawl.

They weren't yet near enough for Lacrima to do anything about, but they would be gaining, and they would easily cut her off from reaching the fire unless something intervened.

~*~

All of Rinoa's Pokemon nodded, Angelo perhaps a bit more eagerly in the others, and turned their respective attentions to the oncoming soldiers who, fortunately, had yet to notice them with the smoke billowing about and the thin haze of sand and dirt still settling onto the grass from her Pokemon's earlier attempts at an impromptu screen.

To their credit, the Pokemon thought to wait until Angelo was ready to move, as his target was furthest away, and them shooting off to start their attacks would only give them away to the archer if Angelo wasn't ready as well. As the little dog's ears flipped forward, and he hunkered down, ready to pounce, the others knew it was time, and a single unit they leaped forward, one through the flames and the other two onto one side of them.

When Angelo loosed his attack it was almost as if the pillar of flames itself had attacked the archer, and he was entirely unprepared for it. The jet of flame lashed out and engulfed him, empowered by both the sun and by the Growlithe's own inherent ability to draw power from the flames himself. It incinerated the simpler cloths of his tunic and breeches, turned to ash the string of his bow and dried the wood out enough that if he tried to use it it would merely crack, and turned the fletching to dust; his arrows would never fly, even had he still the eyes with which to aim them. His Hoppip, running along behind him, was not quite spared the blast, and the entire right half of his body was engulfed with flames, wilting and burning through his delicate leafy skin.

Like much of his skin, those, too, were blackened and semi-melted. Such was the power of an empowered Growlithe's infernal flames.

Adremmelech and Yojimbo, meanwhile, were having a similarly easy time with their own opponent, as their appearance from behind the flames had been at least as unexpected, and electricity was quicker than thought most of the time anyway. It took two shots each to knock the entire group down, with Yojimbo firing twice upon the human, as his electrical attacks were naturally weaker, and Adremmelech once each upon the flier and the turtle.

They were by no means dead, of course, merely paralyzed momentarily, and unless they were disposed of would presist to be a threat. To that end, Adremmelech began to charge more powerful bolts of energy, her fur rippling with the effort and the gathered electricity

The man runnig around in flames, however, was only a threat due to his unpredictability.

With the Mareep handling those, though, Yojimbo turned his attention to the third soldier and his three Zubat. Therein lay a problem, though. Whilst focusing on the other two, and having revealed themselves to him, they had given the third soldier time to gather his wits and begin to stage a counter. His Zubat had split up, one going up and the other two going to each side, while he had turned to his side as well and begun to charge with his shoulder, where a buckler with a foreign insignia lay, his sword naked in his other hand.

Behind him, though, rushed another. One who didn't wear the clothes of a Lascian invader. He, too, bore a sword, and as the Lascian progressed at a cautious pace, most likely keeping an eye out for other surprise Pokemon in the grasses, and trying to make out the form of the young woman behind the flames, the Caledonian approached more quickly, already having made plans to take out any nearby soldiers.

His blade arched down across the man's back, splitting open his clothes and a cut from one shoulder to his side. He screamed in pain and pitched forward into the dirt, his sword flung from his hand to arch through the flames and clatter against the side of the tree, only to fall to the ground amidst the roaring fire. His Pokemon, squeaking in surprise and panic, abruptly stopped their advance and flew upwards, out of immediate reach but still nearby, chattering to themselves as their Keeper groaned and twitched on the ground.

Were they...planning an attack?

But now the Caledonians were two strong on this half of the road, much better equipped to take on the Lascians. At least more so than a moment ago.

Nearer to the heart of the problem, the Water-types had begun to converge on the enormous snake, and despite his best efforts at increasing his speed and his defense, they were nailing him with bursts of water fairly frequently, forcing him to change his route or slow down, occasionally take a hit and roar with the pain. Things were not going altogether too well for him, and the soldiers were beginning to rally themselves once more.

The advantage of his inflicted confusion was fading.

Rinoa's eyes widened when she saw the man and half his Hoppid go up into flames.

She had never seen the like, would never have thought it possible, couldn't image how torturous that must be.

....Just adding to the things that Rinoa could have a mental break down over.

Later.

Right now there were other things to do.

"Adre! Use Shockwave on the Pidgetto and don't let up! Yoji, switch to the Warturtle, Copycat Adre and use Shockwave on it too! Angelo, cover me! If it looks like I'm about to be attacked, flamethrower whatever it is attacking me!" Rinoa called out. As she gave her orders she ran around the flames, keeping half an eye on the flaming man, as she moved toward the Keeper who had been paralyzed. Her plan was to quickly slice his throat as well with her bladed staff, like she had the other soldier.

If she was attacked in the meantime, she would defend herself of course, but she hoped that Angelo could keep her covered. If she could she would try to grab the soldier's pokeorbs, but she doubted she'd be able to, considering the chaos around them.

She wasn't about to die while rifling through a man's pants.

She also kept half an eye on the man who had come out of no where, to attack the third Lascian soldier. She could only assume that he was Caledonian, and thus an ally in the madness. She could only hope he could hold his own long enough for Rinoa and her pokemon to take out the others.
I believe in looking reality straight in the eye and denying it.

[I come... to not save Rin! Lex Lex told me I was to save the buttocks of a one thiefy girl ^^]

Victoria waved at the fleeting Riders, a thanks, though slightly bittersweet. It was the parting of money that made it like such... and the idea of leaving such a city as beautiful as Belfhaste. Beautiful city, really, it was...

The sound of clanking and thunder in the far off signaled that there was... someone battling. She was not sure that someone was more than two or three...

And, as the sun beat down on her, she realized something else.

She didn't want to be alone with this one.

Orlando growled lightly, already into his Keeper's sack, pushing open Kenan's PokeOrb. The water bird shot out, and onto Victoria's shoulder. Immediately his eyes were scanning. Though he could not see anything right out, he knew that there was more than four people, and he should alert his Keeper.

"Gu-"

"Shush," she said silently, drawing herself closer, "If they're hostile, we don't want to alert anyone..."

Especially if they were of the enemy...

Crouching low, she started to move forward, taking out Thibaut's PokeOrb as well, and calling him out next to her. The Grass Pokemon took a moment to relish the sun before being yanked back into concealment (which I'm assuming is grass) by Orlando. Victoria peered over a moment, to see what was going on.

A battle... well, she did not see the whole battle, obviously. Just a little bit. Enough to want to act...

Save the girl about to get trampled by three large horse Pokemon at least.

"Thibaut. I don't care if you like me or not, but we need an Energy Ball at those horses. If at nothing else than to distract them. Show off if you want to..."

As she said it, Benolo was out of his PokeOrb, by way of Victoria's quick hands.

"Beno, I need... guh... do you have Dark Pulse? I'm assuming you do, and if you do, you'll show it off to me by aiming one square at those three horses, mkay?"

Then she glanced over at Kenan.

"Alright hun, when those horses are distracted, go right in for the kill with a Twister. If there's a rock or something that can take any electricity attacks that might come your way, keep towards those. You want to stay away from those, alright? Might as well put an Aqua Ring up too. I don't care how sunny it is, if I can't get over there in time to heal you, you have to be ready..."

Her Pokemon stared. What was this? It wasn't like a war or anything! Well, Kenan knew it was, but he couldn't say it... Victoria told him not to.

Was it wise to trust her though? Benolo only knew her for long enough for cuddles, and Thibaut... well... he was Thibaut! There was no choice though. If it was a war they were in, then they would listen, or get killed. And if it wasn't...

Orlando would tell them the 'if it wasn't and they didn't listen' part.

Speaking of...

"'Lando, stick with me for now... I want to make sure I get a full situation, and I have no idea what's going on," the girl whispered."

Azrael wondered if, perhaps, he should have gotten closer to the contingent before launching his plan, but dismissed the thought. Hindsight was of little use right now. Especially during battle, it was time to focus on here and now. And, here and now, Quarry was on his own; Azrael couldn’t do anything for the onix at this very moment.

Face-down as his opponent was, his throat and surrounding blood vessels were unreachable, but the easiest target Azrael could see was the thighs. Supposedly one could kill a person by slicing deep enough into the leg, within a certain area Azrael had been made to memorise, and death would come in under a minute. Not only that, but it would surely prevent the man from doing much of anything. So his plan was to slice deeply into the man’s inner thighs, fatally. If possible, he’d try to cut both.

If the man somehow managed to get up afterward, cutting him down would be a simple matter.

The zubat, however, were not.

Whatever they were planning, Azrael wouldn’t have any defence against it. His strike should take but a second, and the entire manoeuvre perhaps five, but who knew what the zubat could do in that time? And, of course, they could easily act after. If any of the giant bats came at him, he’d of course try to cut at it (perhaps chop off a wing; disabling it was more important than keeping it as usable spoils of war was, at least in Azrael’s mind), but he hoped it wouldn’t come to that while he was attacking their keeper, or in the precious few moments it took to recover. If, and only if, it was possible to easily and quickly get their pokeorbs, he'd try to do it and recall the zubat. Otherwise, or if he wasn't sure, he wouldn't bother.

There was no reason to think that it wouldn’t, however, and maybe Azrael should have drawn both swords, but that would actually slow him down when speed was key here.

(Hindsight was of little use right now, he reminded himself, and it was best not to waste his energy on it.)

Next time, he thought, he’d see about cutting these very blood vessels first when initiating a sneak attack.

Once again, Lucianna's plan had gone off without a hitch. She was able to get a flame going, and after transferring it to the bottle to Acker to the soldiers, she returned her faithful friend. From here, she attempted a dash for the smoke, or as close to a dash as she would get whilst crawling on the ground. Little to her knowledge, though, there were a torrent of peoples after her. Wheeeee!

She noticed the riders quickly enough, as Lacrima, who was also prone beside her, indicated the trio of firehorseriders approaching. Luci's eyes lit up in alarm, and though she was unaware of the divine intervention moving to save her, she still considered herself with a good chance anyway. Her Cubone was raring to go, if a little tired, and Acker would be up to the task too, once she re-released him. It was no good without a plan, though, but luckily she had one.

"Al'igh', don' panic, we 'ave a change a plan an' we're okay; nah I wan'ou tae dig an 'ole as soon as poss'ble, an' 'en wai' 'ere 'til one o' them's close. Tha's when you launch'aself up ou'a the groun' and Headbu' 'em as well. 'opefully all tha' attackin'll bring one'a the horses down, an' leave two for me 'n' Acker. Go quick!" she commanded with a soft but urgent tone, urging for the Cubone to go with haste. Next was Acker, whom she re-released. Once he was out, she would give him his commands too:

"Welcome ba', Acker, ye did awes'm'! But we ain' ou' ye'! I nee' you to use your s'ron'es' move on one o' the Pony'a people... If any of 'em have a bow, go for 'at one. Good luck frien'!" came her words, still urgent, still caring, and she looked around, before hoisting herself onto her knees. She would begin retreating in a crouch, hopefully faster than crawling, and she would still be covered for the most part by the hill. Her destination hadn't changed, and neither had a reluctant acceptance to use her daggers if necessary...

As if they had been born to battle, and indeed Yojimbo had, whereas Adremmelech was only charged with her own innate electricity and the surge of adrenaline that came with being embroiled in battle, leaped forward into the fray, Yojimbo just slightly behind the Mareep as he needed to watch and pay attention to her in order to execute his attack accurately. All three of the paralyzed enemies were still prone on the ground, though the Pokemon were beginning to exhibit signs of movement.

Mareep's bolt struck first, and the Pidgeotto spasmed violently as the electricity played hell with her muscles. There was a crack that might have been a wing breaking, but the way the thing flipped and flopped about, it all looked the same anyway.

The attack against the Wartortle that followed, however, was not quite so effective. Shock Wave was an attack more reliant on powerful electricity, and though Yojimbo copied the attack flawlessly, not being able to innately generate electricity dictated that his own just couldn't quite live up to the potential of Adremmelech's. It spattered over the Wartortle's shell, and the Pokemon growled in pain, but lurched to his feet and stumbled forward, lashing out at Yojimbo with little claws that just missed as the born-fighter took a few stumbling steps backwards in surprised haste.

It opened up a clear road to the man, however, and with a swiftness born of necessity, Rinoa was beside him, her blade pressed against his neck for the brief moment it took to make sure that it was in the right place before it slipped upwards and cut into the soft, unprotected skin of his neck.

Just like the other, a spurting gush of blood flooded the immediate ground, staining the dirt and gathering around Rinoa's boots from the depression they made in the ground. Talk about a trail of blood.

As she reached for his Pokeorbs, the Wartortle leaped backwards and smacked against her hand, effectively swatting it out of the way as he avoided Yojimbo's second Shock Wave, which dissipated harmlessly against the ground. It did knock Rinoa's hand from her task, however, and effectively put the man in the middle of a battle zone, but it also triggered Angelo.

The little dog jumped forward, splashing slightly in the blood which stained his paws, and let loose a tongue of flame that enveloped the Wartortle for a brief moment, before an answering blast of water split through and caught the pup squarely in the jaw. With a pained yelp, he fell to the side and tried to scramble back up, his paws slipping in the blood-made mud.

Not far off, still wrapped up in their own little world, the man wandered about, now blind and with his skin burning deeper and deeper, some falling off in smoking chunks, the rest wrinkling and shriveling under the heat. His Hoppip lay smoldering in the grass, unmoving and beyond even plain unconsciousness.

--(*)--

Nearby, Azrael's kill was as quick and clean as Rinoa's was, with the blood from the twin cuts on the backs of the man's thighs bubbling up among the material of his breeches and running down into the dirt. It certainly got the man's attention, ,and he thrashed about in yet more pain, which only worsened the bleeding, and within a few moments he had lost enough to facilitate the sleep that preceded unconsciousness.

By then, of course, his Pokemon had made ready their counter-attack.

Despite the sword he hefted in defense, the Pokemon didn't seem the least bit daunted. The three Zubat seemed to have reached an agreement on something, and as a group they lined up, opposite Azrael up in the sky, and as a unit swooped down, one right behind the other so closely that they looked like nothing but a bat with three sets of wings.

As they swooped down and neared, though not within blade's reach, the first let out a sharp cry, lower than their usual form of communication, so as to be audible, and its effect on Azrael's ear drums was such that he flinched in pain and automatic defensive reaction, cringing away from it. Simultaneously, as his blade wavered, the other two bats went into action.

The second one launched himself over the top of the first, teeth striking Azrael's cheek and ripping a deep line across it, the third went the opposite direction, aiming at his neck but achieving only a blunt blow to the shoulder, and the first, who had attacked from a distance, slammed directly into his chest and sent him stumbling backwards as the three gained altitude once more to re-group.

[Anyone who recognizes that gets bonus points. >.>]

~*~

As Acker and Lacrima leaped into action, the former scooping up as many nearby stones as was possible, and the latter setting to digging himself a little nook in the dirt, an action that was as natural as walking was, Victoria's Pokemon, unknown to Lucianna, began to take action as well, though some of them weren't quite as willing as the others.

Thibaut's burst of green energy hurtled overhead as Lucianna made her slow retreat, catching the Ponyta on the left off guard and slamming into its side. It neighed in pain and rose up on its hind legs, nearly throwing the rider, who abandoned his lance and clung to the horse's neck for dear life, and possibly limb.

The other two horses abruptly side-stepped, with all the apparent skill of a parade horse, and whickered their own surprise at the attack as their riders narrowed their eyes and scanned for an origin. The young woman had made the advance gave her Ponyta a squeeze with her knees as the shadowy ball of energy from another of Victoria's Pokemon drew near, and the horse shot beneath it so that the sphere erupted against the ground several yards behind them, effectively warned of the attack.

On the orb's proverbial tail, however, was the twisting and writhing mass of air sent forth by Kenan.

Unfortunately, this proved to have unintended side-effects.

The other two attacks had gone over the heads of all before them, but the Twister travelled along the ground, and in its rather wide path was Acker, who was just readying his stones to throw. Caught off-guard by the attack from the back, he was flung forward, his rocks going willy-nilly everywhere, as the blast of air rushed past him and onwards to the enemy. Just as they had with the Dark Pulse, however, they could see the Twister coming, and all three, with the third rider barely managing a comeback with a newly-drawn shortsword, managed to steer their Ponyta aside as it rushed onward and past them.

There was little enough damage done between them, but they had for the moment halted their advance. Until the twister had passed and they started forward once again...

Rinoa cursed herself and the Warturtle as her hand was knocked away, and for the pain to her pokemon it caused. But there was no time to sit around and think, certainly no time to cry about it.

It was time for action.

"Yoji, keep trying to use Shockwave on the Warturtle. If it hits you though, use Counter! Angelo, get back into the fire, and then use Flamethrower on the Pidgeotto! Adre, switch your attention from the Pidgeotto to the Warturtle and Shockwave it too!" Rinoa called out, in split second orders. The fire, while it wouldn't heal Angelo, would help rejuvenate his energy that would have been dampened by the water. Hopefully the Pidgeotto was weak enough now that a few flamethrowers would faint it. Then, between Adre and Yoji, hopefully they could put the Warturtle out of commission.

With her opponent dead, and her pokemon handling the dead soldier's pokemon, Rinoa went to try and help her comrade who was being struck by the Zubat. She had seen his shield on his arm proclaiming him to be a Vassal of Belfaste.

That, and the fact that he had come to her aid, was enough for her to put aside her feelings about men, during the battle.

Hands gripping her staff, she twirled it around herself, then swung the blunt end at the Zubat as they tried to fly away and regroup, hoping to knock one down out of the sky and to the ground. As she did so she moved to stand closer to the Belfhaste Vassal at his back, though not so close that she would strike him with her staff, her eyes on the Zubat.

If another one came at them, she would once again try to strike them down to the ground with the blunt end of her metal staff.

Azrael could hardly believe he’d actually flinched – he had to be better than that, and overcome even automatic functions like flinching – and knew he had to do better. He’d have to temper his mind and body better, so that these biological hindrances wouldn’t bother him. Arry wouldn’t have flinched, and he’s younger than me, Azrael thought. A quick glance behind him as he noticed motion there told him that the other Caledonian had moved to protect his back, but at a safe enough distance.

He lifted his sword defensively, deciding that instead he’d try to block anything the zubat threw at him instead of actively attacking. He wanted his sword between himself and them, but if they came from behind, he’d trust his ally to defend him. Zubat were quite big, after all, and their wingspan made them bigger targets. Unlike an armed human, if they attacked, blocking with his blade would actually hurt them. He wouldn’t be blocking solely with the forte, as he would another weapon, but it would be more like a slash if they physically attacked… though, when moving, they’d also take more strength to block, so he’d hopefully be able to move out of the way and strike at the same time instead. Otherwise his sword was just going to be in the way of a projectile, and hopefully blocking it.

He had some knowledge of what moves a zubat had, but he had been more interested in their evolved forms, which were possible to ride. He knew zubat could potentially some moves that weren’t as easily blocked with his sword, but perhaps, since they weren’t as smart as humans, they wouldn’t think of them. Or, at least, not yet.

Perhaps he shouldn’t have left Quarry to his distraction, which probably wasn’t doing to well. Quarry would hopefully at least weaken some of the Lascian pokémon, energy-wise if not injuring them. Quarry himself, Azrael couldn’t bring himself to truly care about. If Quarry couldn’t think himself out of whatever predicament he was in, he didn’t have any really useful qualities that overcame Azrael’s prejudice against pokémon he didn’t actively like.

Now what was going on?

Victoria saw the Twister take very little effect to the riders as it were to their overall damage. Their advance was halted at the very least, and she would have to take that. Unfortunately, with this sun out, Kenan was going to have a slight problem getting anything more than another Twister out. A Supersonic maybe, but she did not want to risk hitting that... whatever that was Kenan hit. A Geodude maybe? Whatever it was, it had a lot of rocks attached to it.

Thibaut snorted. His was the only attack to hit, so he was of course gloating about it. Unfortunately for him, no one was paying attention.

"Crap..." she hissed, but kept still. Hopefully they had not seen her where she was. The girl looked like she saw them at least, so if something ended up hitting a proverbial fan (whatever that was) she would be able to at least get some form of help.

But if that thing that was flung around a bit was a rock type... maybe there was a chance. If she got close enough, there was something that could take any fire attack... possibly any lightning attacks. She did hear thunder earlier...

She would have to get closer to the girl, but that would require another quick distraction. That Twister was not going to hold itself for long. Kenan gave her a concerned look.

"I'm thinking," she hissed angrily, "... Gah... alright. Looks like that Energy Ball did more than it should have... so we should keep this condition up until we have no other choice... But we need to be careful of that... Golem... Geodude... Onix thing over there... whatever that was... Kenan... Thibaut... I need you two to fly overhead. Thibaut, aim a Solar Beam at 'em... or if you can't get to them, aim it right under them, while they're distracted... a great big Solar Beam hole'll do the trick. Kenan, if any of them spots you two while you're up there, use a Water Pulse to deflect the attack, okay? Even better, if you spot them just before they unleash it... but I need you both to be careful, no matter what."

She thought a moment. If that girl could handle those three... then there was no need for her to help more than a big distraction, right? She did not want to lose any of her Pokemon.

Besides, what if she wasn't helping the right side? It was just her hero instinct acting again.

"But come right back... And be careful... I mean it... we're gonna get a closer look at what's going on..."

She gave the girl one more look, before thinking a little harder. Kenan had already taken off into flight.

"Orlando, I need you to let off a really loud ... barky thing..."

The Growlithe gave her a look. Really loud, barky thing? Did she mean Roar?

"Right as that Solarbeam hits... I need that attack to smack all three of the Pokemon dead on. Maybe it'll spook 'em enough to kick them off... But we can't give away our position, but don't move with us until you do so, okay?"

She had to have meant Roar. She just had no idea what it was called. Orlando nodded in confirmation.

"Good... let's move..."

Scooping up Benolo, who was too spooked to notice, she started to, slowly, silently, move towards the other girl. Orlando kept his eyes to the sky, but crouched low in his spot. He would know when Kenan and Thibaut did their job. He had to.

And hopefully that Geodude... thing... that was in the way... was not going to be affected...

...Was that the ally? Was the person who had made the initial attack with a strike of powerful thunder the one responsible for the shot of energy? It had powered over Lucianna's head and into the Ponyta, effectively disarming its rider, at least of his primary weapon, and as she saw Acker begin to collect rocks and Lacrima take to his hidden position amid the ground, it was nice to know something was still helping her. Maybe she would have some very helpful assistance.

LOL

The Twister that followed soon thereafter destroyed hopes of Acker pulling off a Rock Slide. He dropped all of his collected pieces, effectively ruining any attempts at knocking the Ponyta women out. Admittedly, however, the great swirl of dragonly wind did cause a temporary wall of danger preventing them doing anything. In total, the attack had given Lucianna some breathing and thinking time, but it had also allowed Acker to take some damage. And so she wondered whether it was friendly fire, a reckless foe or a third party... Only one way to investigate.

She looked to Acker. Although thrown off by the assault from behind, he was still in fighting condition, and wasn't particularly tired; fatigue wasn't limiting him just yet. She was so proud of him- Of both of her Pokemon, as they had really excelled themselves in what was her second ever "Pokemon battle." As far as she could hope, nobody had died yet, and yet she had subdued many of them, and definitely diverted this attack for a while. She didn't know when her Pokemon Battle would end, but she began to hope it was soon.

So what would they do? To recap her situation, Lucianna had to continue in her movements back, both to inspect this "ally" and to see whether it was the same ally who had caused the burning tree. The thought of even more allies and help sent a pleasant shiver down her spine, and she found her mind kick into gear once more. She couldn't do too much more, and she was hardly a master strategist, but she'd done well so far. Her target proved to remain the three Ponyta riders, at least until she had found out about the fourth Tornado caster.

Lacrima was fine in his dig spot, with the same orders as before. She would continue making a move back, or forward, depending on what you want to call it, and recall him as she had Acker, once he had attacked. Hopefully his fighting spirit would allow him the dignity to fight with Bone Clubs if he was isolated at any point. But she hoped with a full heart that it wouldn't come to that. He would be fiiiine...

Lucianna lamented on bringing the little Bulbasaur out. His stronger moves, like that Solarbeam, they would prove useful, for as long as he could keep his stamina. But just as she was unwilling to kill (wittingly, at least) she was reluctant to bring the baby into a fight, since he really wasn't deserving in an exposure to such hells. Childish innocence was something which shouldn't be sacrificed in war, and even when necessary, it was truly unfortunate.

"Acker! I'll go check ou' wha' in'erup'ed you, bu' for now you nee' to go f'ranother Rock Slide, throwin' once they's some speed on 'em. As you're collec'in' be sure t' stay low 'n' move outta 'e way of any attacks.; f'rat matta' move to yerr left as well, so you's avoid tha' Twis'er person too! 'It as many as ye can... An' a serious las' resor' is t' Drink Punch any ge'in' too close..." came the orders, before the girl turned to move, crouch-running. She meant Drain Punch.

Angelo responded to Rinoa's orders only slightly slower than he normally would have, shaking off the remainder of the attack and high tailing it back to his little pillar of fire. It was still burning tall, and definitely hot as the surrounding area was beginning to feel the effects, and he leaped into the middle of it, near the fallen soldier's blade, and allowed it to envelop and surround him, drawing energy from it. When Adre had scampered out of the way sufficiently, he loosed a tongue of flame at the still prone-and-twitching bird, enveloping it just as surely as he himself was.

The Pidgeotto writhed in pain, twisting and crying out shrilly as its feathers caught fire and burnt to ash, cooking it like a turkey for a meal, until it was reduced to a twitching mass of charred meat. Not quite dead, but not truly alive either.

A second burst of flame silenced it entirely.

In the meantime, the Wartortle had managed to surprise Adre with a solid tackle and slam the sheep to the ground, until a well-placed Shock Wave from Yojimbo had him stumbling off of her and glaring mutely at the both of them before a combined attack from the two sent it to the ground. Like killers possessed, they stood over him, shocking him in turn until the light died from his eyes and left a singed, stinking corpse. Knocking it out didn't seem possible, as it simply kept coming. It was regrettable, but unavoidable. If it had lain still...

Either way, both were neutralized, and Rinoa was free to focus her efforts on the assistance of Azrael against the Zubat. She wasn't' fast enough approaching to catch them before they could regroup, and as she and Azrael took their stances on the ground, so too did the bats take their respect stances above them.

In a move similar to what they had performed against the other vassal, they lined up into a perfectly straight line, or as perfect as any living thing could be, and dove, this time for Rinoa. Again they were almost like one entity, and Rinoa lashed out with her staff, striking at the first as it drew near, before it could execute the same attack like last time, and with a squeak the thing was smacked out of the air to land with a bump in the grass. Unfortunately it had struck the core of its body, rather than a wing, and the little thing was instantly flopping about as it tried to right itself.

The second swerved out of the way, striking the back of Azrael's shoulder and knocking him askew, as the third pulled back entirely and opened its mouth to release an entirely new form of sound wave.

These were inaudible, but had effects regardless. With a speed that was naturally terror-inspiring in a human not used to such things, the world began to fade around Rinoa, seemingly without cause, and as she moved to attack the hovering bat with her staff, she stumbled, watching the world pitch around as if she weren't seeing things through her eyes, then fell to the ground with a thump, fortunately not impaling herself, in the deepest slumber she had probably ever experienced.

Azrael, on the other hand, now had no-one to watch his back, and three Zubat, still, to contend with, though the one on the ground had yet to completely regain himself, and was within arm's reach if he just took a step to the side... The other two, as well, still seemed in a state of disorder.

Kenan took his argumentative rider to the sky as he was told, beating his wings rather more laboriously in the proces of trying to lift not only himself but the diminutive Grass-type into the skies. It wasn't that it was a difficult load to carry, it was merely awkward. Like carrying a box that doesn't weigh very much but is far too big to be held comfortably.

As they gained altitude and made their way towards the trio of riders that had begun again to pursue Lucianna, Violet and the other thief girl in question began to simultaneously head towards each other, fortunately. It was similar to burning a candle at both ends in that it sped up the time meeting process, and by the time tragedy struck they were within arm's reach of each other.

But tragedy did strike, and it struck hard.

Unless vegetation vaporization had been what Violet was panning on.

From the sky, without the bothersome charging time usually required of an attack of that magnitude, a column of golden blazing energy shot, lancing through the air and towards the ground just before the Ponyta riders. The grass around its striking point curled and blackened from the heat bleeding off of it, and the Ponyta and their riders reared and were nearly thrown, again, as the surprise and the heat struck them full on.

It wasn't a long lasting attack, however, and they were left blinking spots of blazing white out of their eyes just a few seconds after, ready to ride forward once more, to face unknowingly a hail of stones from the busily bustling Acker.

But before them, in the blackened remains of the grass that had been almost vaporized under the elemental onslaught, flames began to flicker, catching the dry bits of grass beside it, and then those caught the next couple of pieces, and then the next, and so on and so forth. Normally it would have fizzled out from pleasantly damp earth and fresh grass, particularly with the rain the night before. But as the effects of Sunny Day were, barely, still in effect, and had been for quite some time now, the grass had been supernaturally dried, and was vulnerable to the tendencies of burning that being presented with a live flame had.

At an exponential rate, the flames began to spread, licking at the bellies of the Ponyta and sending their own flames ever higher, rushing over Lacrima's hiding hole and, fortunately, not damaging him within his safety of a cool earthen hideout, past Acker and enveloping him in a sea of flames that burned and charred his skin, rushing back towards Lucianna and Violet.

Unfortunately, the road itself, being devoid of grass, would be a safe haven for most of the Lascian forces, and it would also serve as a barrier against the other side of the road, where their unknown allies fought. It would still play absolute hell with this side of the field, however...

Not the least daunted by the raging sea of flames, the Ponyta riders surged forward, weapons blazing wickedly in the flames.

Azrael registered that the woman he’d come to save was now asleep, and that he could probably only strike one zubat, much more quickly and calmly than he would have if this wasn’t a life-or-death battle. Just as quickly he chose to attack the one that put the woman to sleep, because he now knew the zubat was capable of such things and didn’t want to fall asleep as well. He could hope that the others would be taken care of by the woman’s pokémon, and that they’d recognise him as an ally. It shouldn’t be difficult, he thought.

First, he’d slash at the Hypnosis-user, and if he could follow up by attacking the other flying zubat before it could recover, he’d do that right after. Otherwise, though, he’d just keep at trying to defeat the Hypnosis-user with his sword. For either of the zubat, if he had the chance, he’d try to attack their wings; after that, surely, the woman’s pokémon could easily take care of them.

He would, of course, be careful not to step on the woman, whom he knew was in too deep a sleep to awaken.

Ensuring her safety, even though it didn’t have to mean defeating the zubat himself, came first. After that, well, he supposed she should be safe enough with her pokémon. She was priority over Quarry, but once she didn’t need him any more, Quarry was really the only thing left to deal with… and all the trouble that stupid rock snake got him into.

Not what she had planned. Why would a Solar Beam do that anyways? Was it not a Grass type attack? Whatever...

By the time she almost had a hand on the other girl, she had realized what happened, and did not have all that much time to react...

Oh, that Pokemon was a Hitmonchan... not a Geodude...

Well, now that the cover was blown (what cover?), there was no sense in really hiding... nevermind the big licking flames coming their way.

Obviously she had little choice. Standing up, she readied herself with her metal staff, and, eyes still on the Ponyta and their riders, she issued a simple command.

"Let's have a Rain Dance!" she shouted towards her Wingull. What chance did she have anyways? It wasn't like the favor of this battle was going to be any better if she didn't do it. Well, if she did not... that would be horrible.

"Guh... hey you... not much we can do about this..."

She wasn't going to say it was her fault. That was her father's pride cutting in. She'd blame it on the Sunny Day or something if anyone asked, but that was for a later time.

Wait, where was that Cubone? Guh, nevermind. No time.

"I hope that Hitmonchan of your's has something up it's sleeve... Beno, once that Rain Dance is done with, you need to aim a Dark Pulse at that right Ponyta there... think you can do that?"

Benolo stared up at her, before jumping out of her arms. He was far from petrified, his Keeper seemed calm enough, that was for sure...

Her eyes were, however, still on those Riders. She didn't want to take any chances.

Orlando sniffed lightly, and started to head back towards Victoria. He may not have been aware of the Rain Dance, but he had a suspicion.

Now what?

Extra measure, as Kenan flew back towards them to deliver the petrified Thibaut, was what Victoria was thinking. Her eyes glanced over quickly towards her water type Pokemon. He would have enough time to bring the grass type back here, right?

He had to have.

But she couldn't just yell 'Water Pulse' out at that height. It would ruin everything. She would have to wait till the both of them got closer... But Thibaut knew her well enough, didn't he?

No.

She waited, until after he and Thibaut got closer, and just as it looked like Benolo was about to do what he needed to.

"Water Pulse that right horse there," were the words she said, eyes darting over towards the right horse, loud enough for the Pokemon to hear her... and hopefully some surprise to that right Ponyta behind it.

Distraught: (adj.) Deeply agitated, as from emotional conflict.

So much was happening, so much was changing. Conditions and events whizzed past the girl's comprehension before she thought she could keep up. But she had to, for her own survival, for Acker's survival and for Lacrima's. She had entered this "Pokemon battle" unaware of what she was fighting for, but that had quickly subsided in favour of fighting for her life. And now she was left with little choice but to continue, at least until escape was a viable option.

...And taking some of these Riders' stuff would be nice.

Things just didn't seem to be going Acker's way, as once again fate conspired against his Rock Slide, and he found himself unable to finish the assault. Lacrima still hadn't been able to strike, and lucky too, considering what happened, leaving Lucianna with an achievement of zilch in this round. And why? Because of the insane inferno of a Solarbeam that other girl, for Luci was now close enough to see that she was such.

Lucianna looked at the one who had twice now interrupted her attacks, though seemingly without intention, given how her targets had been the Ponyta. She was taller and far better dressed than Luci, and had an enviable tan, if jealousy had been a practise of our thief. She also had an assortment of Pokemon, and all of differing species and type, making Luci believe this was a real Keeper, as they existed.

Were other Keepers this reckless?

Fear, alarm and distress engulfed Lucianna as she observed the fire take hold, and turning to her Hitmonchan, saw him get licked at by the flames. She cringed. Acker! He didn't deserve this pain or suffering, and if she hadn't been insistant on the battle, then it wouldn't have happened. Succinctly, his torture was her own fault (As much as it was Victoria's and Thiabut's the Sunny Day's) and she felt her panging guilt rack at her stomach. She retched briefly, before looking at the other girl, and all of her Pokemon.

"Wha'a ye doin'!? Who are ye!? Ma'e i' stop; ge'ri' o'em flames!" She shouted, her pitch high and crackly, her voice a wail. "No no no!! P-poor Acker! Lacrima!" as for all she knew, the Cubone could've perished amid the flames "You... You bitch! Wha've ye do'e? Aaacker..." she managed, before he legs weakened and she drooped to her knees, hands imprinting on the grass. She didn't care about the fire and the burning, not if Acker and Lacrima had gone.

Acker sure as hell hadn't.

He let out a cry of his species' name, and she looked to him. The girl's heart skipped a beat to see the faithful warrier stood there. He had rocks in his hands, and though there was probably a burn amid his flesh, he wouldn't give up, hell no would he yet. He was fighting for victory, the spirit of the success-hungry boxer inside, and he'd need to be unconscious before that happened. Of course, neither he nor Lucianna planned on letting that happen.

Luci quickly reached for her satchel, retrieving a Potion to expend on her beloved Hitmonchan. She was effectively ignoring the other girl now, but between her love for Acker's safety and her distaste for the Vigilante's recklessness, she couldn't really care less. Right now, she would do what she could to help Acker live, and try to see whether Lacrima was okay. She stood up. They took priority over filling someone else in on something she didn't know, and chances were, the girl would give Luci the cold shoulder after seeing she was a peasant anyway.

She applied her ointment as quickly as she could, tears rolling freely down her face and skewing her vision, but not enough such that she couldn't see Acker's body to do the simple task. She wouldn't fail him now, no way. Acker himself was still awaiting his chance to use Rock Slide, and shrugging any pain from the medicine away, he looked at the center Ponyta, attempting to Mind Read it before the assault; that'd help his attack out.

Assuming Cubone to still be alive, conscious and well, both Lucianna and Acker were aware directing anything at the left hand rider to be hell. Acker was also aware that their impromptu ally was about to attack the Ponyta, and given the nature of his own assault, knew it to be best to wait until their attacks were at least partially under way, before beginning his. As such, the Mind Reader gave him something to do, alongside collecting rocks.

Lucianna, meanwhile, was continuing to heal her starting Pokemon, and had already figured out she would need to retrieve the Cubone when he used Dig. If he digged out into fullest flames, she'd have to recall him in mid air, and so her eyes needed to be clear. She hastily flung her wrist to them, etching at the lids to remove her crystaline distractions, and blinking a few times to better see. She would be ready to return him, she had to... And he would come, he had to... though hopefully after some divine intervention ended the tormenting rains.

Praying doesn't seem so stupid right now.
