Winter

Weather
The first great snowfall of a few days prior has coated the lands in a shining white that many would say is beauty embodied. The trees glimmer and chime with ice on their branches, and the evergreens are more vibrant and lively looking than at any other time in the year. The skies are cloudless, and with nothing to insulate the earth, temperatures drop low enough to be dangerous for long amounts of exposure at night.

The Case of Vaporeon

All of Eevee’s evolutions, or Eevelutions, as they are sometimes called, are fascinating, and deserving of further study. One of the Eevelutions that has received some of the most study is Vaporeon. The Water Eevelution, its original purpose was to try and find a means of allowing humans to ability to breath and function naturally underwater through magical means. Many Eevees died during the first several magical experimentations, most through various methods of drowning. But eventually the first Proto-Vaporeons were created, they’re body types differing in varying degrees as the mages’ techniques were honed. Their bodies, in an effort to survive what was, in all actuality, a watery torture, began to take on adaptations that closely resemebled fish. Gills formed along with their lungs, fins to allow them to better swim and stay float, and the like.

Eventually, the pokemon known now as Vaporeon, was created.

Through so much magical experimentation, Eevee’s molecular system had become rather unstable. After long term breeding, this unstability had been passed down to all Eevees. Eventually, after Eevee’s molecular system had been infused with so much water magic, that the dna strands had actually morphed to become strands that made up the magical element of water, rather than just water in general.

Vaporeon is a water pokemon. Literally.

This change in Vaporeons molecular system allows the pokemon to not only breath underwater, but also to become water. If given even a small puddle to mold with, Vaporeon can melt its body into that puddle, disappearing completely, while still being able to keep its “self”, its mind and personality. If water that does not come from its own body (such as it using water gun on itself), the Vaporeon can heal its own wounds. Vaporeon, due to the magical properties of its DNA, also has the ability to magically manipulate water. Through this ability, Vaporeons are able to use ice attacks, as well as do seemingly impossible feats such as walking on water.

Eventually, the mages felt they had learned all they needed to kno, and ceased their water experimentation on Eevee. They’re results allowed for the eventual creation of Water Armor, which gives the wearer many of the same abilities as a Vaporeon. Now, if Eevee is given long term exposure to an environment that is mostly water, or exposed to a water stone, it becomes a Vaporeon.

The Case of Jolteon

The electrical evolution of Eevee, its original purpose of creation was to harness the power of electricity to allow non-magical citizens to use it in mundane tasks. Later, after seeing the success in creating armor and weapons of the water element from the experiments done on Vaporeon, the purpose extended to finding means of creating electrical armor and weapons.

Using they’re findings from Vaporeon, the mages tried to magically insert the element of electricity directly into Eevee’s molecular system. The shock, quite literally, instanaeously killed many of the test subjects, while the mages worked on finding a level of electricity Eevee’s system could handle. Through extensive breeding of the few that survived, eventually, a pokemon was created that could not only handle, but also hold and create up to 10000 volts of electricity.

This pokemon, was Jolteon.

Jolteon’s cells have morphed so that they constantly are generating low levels of static electricity. Part of this electricity is used within the pokemon’s body for basic tasks, such as the pumping the heart. Overflow of this energy is caught in the spines of its fur and amplified, until it can use this electricity for attacks. Unlike Electrike, which gains its electricity through friction in the atmosphere, Jolteon’s body is always creating and storing electricity. So while, if much of its electricity is used, it may run low, it will never completely run out of power, unless of course it is killed.

Depending on its moods, Jolteon’s body may create more or less electricity. If it is excited, angered, etc, its heart beats faster, so of course more electricity needs to be created. If it is at peace, such as in slumber, its heart beats slower, so less energy is created. When in a state of excitement, it’s the spines of its fur stand on end, and bristle with electricity. During these times, it is dangerous, and in some cases of very high level Jolteon, even fatal, to touch one.

As electricity is used throughout its body, all the way to the molecular level, its body can use even outside electricity. If it by outside electricity (such as lightning or an electric attack used by another pokemon), it can turn that energy into its own productive use, and heal its own wounds.

Eventually, the mages had learned all they needed to know from their experiments, and the Jolteon strand of the Eevelutions was dismissed. Due to the experiments, Eevee will immediately evolve into a Jolteon, if exposed to the power of Thunder Stones. If it is given a constant charge of low level electricity for an extended period of time, it will also cause Eevee’s evolution into Jolteon. However this method is not recommended, as it could also lead to the pokemon’s death.

The Case of Flareon

The last result of the poor experimented Eevee, Flareon was created for the purpose of giving humans control and immunity over fire. Like its kin Vaporeon and Jolteon, the Eevees in this experiment were tortured over and over, only with various temperatures of heat and flame. These Eevees are perhaps deserving of the most pity, for where the ones in the Electric experiments would normally die instantaneously and the ones in the Water had a marginally higher change of survival, those in the Fire experiment normally faced long excruciating pain, with a death that could not come too soon.

Eventually however they created an Eevee that could withstand the hottest flames known to man, those that lived within a volcano, the portals to hell. These Eevees could withstand up to 3,100 degrees Farenheit without a hint of discomfort. Once again they’re molecular code saved these few Eevees, allowing them to morph their cells to become almost living fire themselves.

This pokemon would be called Flareon.

Flareons’ body can reach temperatures up to 1,700 degrees Farenheit, and the strongest ones can breath fire up to 3,000 degrees. They’re fur, while it looks to be of the same particles as open flame, actually is a cooling system, releasing air to keep itself at a comfortable level, despite the heat around it. Like its elemental kin, if it touches outside flame, it can use the fire to seal its own wounds giving itself minor healing capabilities. It can also store heat from outside sources, including excessive heat from the sun, to boost its fire powers.

Due to these reckless and brutal experiments, Eevees exposed to a Fire Stone will immediately evolve into a Flareon. Eevees that have been exposed to high levels of heat or fire for extended periods of time may also evolve into a Flareon.

Through the results of these experiments, mages were able to create fire weaponry and armor. Soon after this however, such radical experiments upon pokemon was banned, and these mage-scientists were forces to use other, less harmful, methods in their research. Those Eevees and Eevelutions that were not horribly mutated, dead, or adopted by mages were set free, allowed to roam the lands as they pleased. But while they were as free as any other wild pokemon, they would be forever changed. These Eevees that survived would forever have an unbalance in their molecular system, which would become apparent in other fashions…

The Case of Espeon

The first evolution of Eevee into Espeon came as a complete shock and surprise to everyone, including the Eevee herself.

One of the first Eevees born in the wild, she was captured early on, and raised in a loving middle class family as a beloved pet. She was particularly beloved of the family’s two children, a young boy and his little sister. Knowing nothing of the horrors her ancestors had faced, she knew only love and affection from her family, and thus gave to them her love and loyalty in return.

It is said that love and loyalty are the greatest gifts, the highest of treasures anyone can receive. No one would know this better than the young boy and little girl. Out for a walk without their parents permission or knowledge, they were careless and disturbed an Arbok, sunning itself on a rock. The Arbok, angered attacked, and could have easily killed the two children, had their Eevee not intervened. But alas, the little normal pokemon too was no match for the large snake, and despite her best efforts, the poisonous pokemon had captured the little girl in its coils. The Eevee, overwhelmed with her need to protect her young Keeper suddenly felt her body enhanced by the suns rays. Her evolution came swiftly, and with her new psychic powers she was easily able to defeat the snake, and save the children.

All the bards would sing of this day, of the Eevee that had been blessed by the gods, and it was only a matter of time for the mage-scientests would research this phenomon.

These were their results.

It appears that the molecular instability of Eevee has lead to its ability to change its own form without the need of a stone or long term environmental stimulai. If an emotion is strong enough to overload Eevee’s system, its genetics become even more unstable. It needs only the barest hints of outside stimulus to tip its genetic code over the edge, and the sun seems to be able to provide that stimulus. Thus when an Eevee is overcome with love, loyalty, or the great need to protect and is at the same time struck by any amount of sunlight it will evolve into an Espeon.

Espeon’s psychic abilities give this pokemon advantages that its Elemental kin do not share. With its heightened intellect it can use the fine hairs on its body to predict the movements of an opponent’s pokemon. With a particularly honed mind, an Espeon can even predict the weather. It also possess minor abilities in telepathy, a discovery that became of great use to the mages in learning more about this phenomena. However its telepathy is limited. It can only speak to its keeper (or in some case Keepers) that have earned its undying loyalty and love. It can not read the thoughts of others, its precognitive abilities focused more on air currents and heightened intelligence, than reading the opponents mind for its next move. Espeons are rare, and thus highly prized, as it takes a very special Keeper to forge the bond of love and trust that it takes to create this unique Eevelution.
