For this roleplay we have decided to exclude the use of Levels and Experience due to the fact that it takes a while to keep constant track of what levels people's Pokémon are at and how much experience they have. Plus it puts a lot of focus on biography editing, which we're trying to stay away from.

As an alternative, we have thought up the idea of using "Pokémon Ranks" in order to display what moves your Pokémon can learn and what moves they're restricted from learning. The idea of this is that if a Pokémon is at a certain rank they will have access to moves within a certain level range, the moves obviously being dependent on the Pokémon. A Pokémon is allowed to have up to 4 moves at a time. Upon reaching a new Rank, a set of that Pokémon's moves becomes unlocked.

For example, if a Pokémon were to reach Rank 2, it then gains access to its level 11-20 moves. You may then choose to change any pre-existing moves your Pokémon knows with as many of these new moves up to a total of 4 moveslots.
RankMoves allowed within this level range
Rank 11 - 10
Rank 211 - 20
Rank 321 - 30
Rank 431 - 40
Rank 541 - 50
Rank 651 - 60
Rank 761 - 70
Rank 8 71 - 80
Rank 981 - 90
Rank 1091 - 100

All Pokémon that you capture start at Rank 1, which means they have access to moves up to level 10. Pokémon ascend to a higher rank after earning 5 wins, and after they rank up they will need an additional 5 wins to climb to the next rank. Wins can be obtained in various ways such as from events or missions but the most common way is through Pokémon Battles.

Pokémon Battles occur when two consenting trainers decide to battle one another with 1 or more of their Pokémon. Each time a Pokémon defeats another Pokémon it gains a win that counts towards its total number of wins required to rank up. Additionally, when Pokémon are defeated they gain half a win that counts towards their wins to rank up, meaning that they would have 0.5 wins.

In 1v1 single battles, it is simple to determine who gains 1 win and who gains 0.5 of a win at the end, however in single battles where trainers have parties with more than 1 Pokémon where they switch Pokémon in and out for strategy, you can obtain more wins based on how you battle.

In 4v4 tag battles in which each participant uses 2 Pokémon each, it becomes slightly trickier to determine wins. The winning team will receive 4 wins for defeating all 4 of the opposing side's Pokémon. These 4 wins will be divided evenly among the winning participants, so 2 each. Then each winner determines whether they receive participation wins for their Pokémon, or 0.5 of a win if any of their Pokémon fainted. For example, if you were on the winning team and none of your Pokémon fainted, they would each receive one participation win per participating Pokémon. If one, or both of your Pokémon happened to faint, but you still won the battle then your Pokémon would both receive 0.5 of a win.

If one of your Pokémon fights against an enemy Pokémon and does damage to it but isn't the one to defeat it, then it is able to gain a participation win as long as it doesn't get knocked out by the time the battle ends. Participation wins are effectively the same as regular wins but they're given to Pokémon that actively participate in battle but don't actually K.O any Pokémon and don't get knocked out themselves. A single Pokémon can only gain 1 participation win per battle but other Pokémon in your team can also get them, if your Pokémon faints at any point during the battle then they cannot gain a participation win.

Due to the fact that levels and experience are being excluded from the role-play, Pokémon Evolution will correspond with their Rank from Rank 2 onward. Rank 1 Pokémon are incapable of evolving, even through the use of a special evolution stone. Upon reaching a rank that your Pokémon is capable of evolving in due to the level range (ex: Your Bulbasaur reached Rank 2, it can now evolve into Ivysaur), you may choose to evolve it whenever. Please be realistic when it comes to the various methods of evolution!
Posted Image Pokémon that evolve by Happiness
Pokémon that evolve by Happiness do not use the Ranks for evolution, and instead abide by the number of wins they have accumulated throughout their lives, similarly to the video games. A Pokémon must acquire 10 wins in order evolve via happiness. Similarly to the ranking system, 2 losses equals 1 win.
Posted Image Pokémon that evolve by Time of Day
Pokémon that evolve at a particular time of day are much more flexibile. They may be evolved during a scene as long as the time of day is state, for example "The trainers all gathered around the bow of the ship, staring out at the moonlit sky." This describes the scene as night time, thus foreshadowing a possible evolution to Alolan-Marowak.
Posted Image Pokémon that evolve by Evolutionary Stones
Pokémon that evolve through the use of Evolutionary Stones may do so once they reach Rank 3. Evolutionary stones may be purchased from the PokéMart for Battle Points. The PokéMart is located on the forums and displays purchasable Evolutionary Stones and their prices.
Posted Image Pokémon that evolve by Trading
Pokémon that evolve through the trade method are capable of being evolved this way upon reaching Rank 3. This is the simplest method of evolving Pokémon in the role-play, you simply have to trade the Pokémon with another trainer in the role-play during an "In Character" scene. You may then trade the Pokémon back if that is your desire. Both trainers must post about this in their update section below the biography with the linked post to be considered valid.
     Posted Image Mega Evolution
Mega Evolution is a different story entirely, due to the fact that this type of evolution is dependent on items and not at all on levels or happiness. In order to Mega Evolve your Pokémon you simply have to obtain a Z-Ring through an event, and then purchase a Mega Stone that corresponds with the Pokémon you want to Mega Evolve from the PokéMart. You are only allowed to Mega Evolve one Pokémon, once during an entire battle. Therefore, if you own two Pokémon that can Mega Evolve and they both fight in a battle only one of them will be allowed to Mega Evolve. This resets after the battle. Mega stones grant the Pokémon an additional 150 HP.

The currency that will be used in the role-play is BP, otherwise known as Battle Points. Every trainer starts off with 5BP, this currency can be used to purchase items from the PokéMart. BP can be used to purchase Evolution materials (ex: Water Stone, Magmarizer), items to power up your Pokémon for certain reasons (ex: Life Orb), and even Mega Stones!

Battle Points may also be used to teach an eligible Pokémon a move via a move tutor. This applies for the Generation 7 move tutors, Pokémon native to the Alola region are now eligible as of Ultra SunTM and Ultra MoonTM. For example, a Mawile may learn Ice Punch from a move tutor due to it being a Gen 7 move tutor attack, and Mawile is eligible. Pokémon such as Tsareena or Alolan-Ninetales are now eligible to learn a move tutor attack from the Gen 7 tutors. To teach a Pokémon a move tutor attack, it costs 5 Battle Points.

Battle Points are also usable to teach a Pokémon an egg move! This costs 5 Battle Points to do so. Move tutors are located at the Pokémon Center, so be sure to visit them when you are ready to teach your Pokémon a new move!

Battle Points are gained through battling other trainers (You may wager at least 1BP as an ante before beginning a battle, it's optional), at the end of the battle you will lose or gain the amount of BP you wagered depending on whether you won or lost the battle. BP can also be gained by catching wild Pokémon (1BP), defeating Gym Leaders (15BP), or Elite 4 members (30BP). Battle Points are also gained through battling other trainers, so BP that you gain from battle is dependent on whether you win or lose and on how many Pokémon participated in the battle. If you are the winner of the battle then the BP you gain would be 2 at the smallest wager (1 from the opponent, and 1 bonus; this is the same for wagering any other number of BP, simply add 1 onto the amount the opponent bet), but the participants may choose to up the ante.

Battle Points may also be gained from special events and scenes, or missions on the Bulletin Board!
