Pokémon Contests |
|---|
Pokémon Contests: | | • Pokémon Contests are special events where trainers gather to show off their Pokémon through the display of dazzling appeals. Competitors who engage in Pokémon Contests are known as Coordinators. These Coordinators work together with their Pokémon to create masterful spectacles that aim to impress the judges. The goal of a Coordinator is to not only dazzle the judges and audience, but to earn Contest Ribbons. Contest Ribbons are more than just a sentimental token and a piece of fabric. Ribbons are used to differentiate the seasoned Coordinators from the novices. A special festival is held for all of the seasoned Coordinators to compete in to be granted the title of Top Coordinator. This special event is known as the Grant Festival and in Sinnoh, Coordinators are required to earn three ribbons to compete in the festival.
• Originating in the Hoenn region, Pokémon coordinating is based on showing off Pokémon in visually impressive ways. It also refers to the act of raising Pokémon particularly for Contests, rather than for regular battles. As a result, it provides Trainers with an alternative to the Badge-collecting quest, giving them a different look at the many charms of Pokémon, as well as a distinct method for interacting with them. Trainers who focus in this area are called Coordinators.
• Pokémon Coordinators typically concern themselves with the outward appearances of their Pokémon. Because of this, they tend to give them special, condition-enhancing treats made out of Berries that keep them looking good. They also concentrate on the move-sets of their Pokémon, teaching them appealing, attention-grabbing attacks that can be easily combined to grant them additional points when used in Contests. Like Trainers, Coordinators are also responsible for their Pokémon's overall health and well-being.
• In all forms of Pokémon media, a Coordinator's Pokémon journey is focused on gathering a certain number of Contest Ribbons by competing in regional Pokémon Contests. In order to earn a Ribbon, they must compete against other Coordinators in different rounds of judging. A Contest Pass is usually required for entering Contests. Additionally, in the Sinnoh region, Coordinators generally wear formal attire or costume to compete.
• A contest is divided up into two separate rounds, the Appeal Round and then Mystery Round.
• In the Appeal Round, each contestant performs an appeal with their Pokémon to display for the judges. The type of appeal will be based on a theme presented before the contest begins. During the appeal, the Coordinator must display an appeal that perfectly captures the chosen theme. The three judges will then determine that contestant's score based on a scale of 10 points, for a total score out of 30 points. The top scoring competitors will move on to the second round, and the rest will be eliminated from the competition. The themes for the appeal round are: Beauty, Cute, Cool, Smart and Tough. It is the coordinator's job to perfectly capture the theme in their appeal in order to move on to the second round.
• Beauty - Demonstrate a beautiful display, full of elegance. Is the Pokémon graceful? Is it mesmerizing the audience? • Cute - Demonstrate a cute performance; Is the Pokémon having fun? Is the Pokémon behaving cutely? • Cool - Demonstrate a cool performance; Is it explosive? Does it "wow" the audience? • Smart - Demonstrate a smart performance; Is there strategy involved? Does it make the audience think? • Tough - Demonstrate a tough performance; Is it powerful? Is the Pokémon's strength being displayed?
• In the Mystery Round, the Roulette Mistress will spin the wheel to determine what event the contestants will be participating in. There are three possible events and they are: Singular Move Display, Specialized Tasks or a Battle Round.
• Singular Move Display - A new theme will be chosen for each Coordinator to perform an attack. Coordinators will use one attack to accurately depict the newly chosen theme. • Specialized Tasks - Coordinators will participate in a chosen task and it is their job to depict the theme in whatever the new task may be. This might be a cooking round, dancing, puzzle solving, etc. • Battle Round - This event is self-explanatory, but the participants will compete in battle utilizing either one or two Pokémon in a battle against another Coordinator. Simply KO'ing the enemy Pokémon will not be enough, as thinking smart and putting on a show is what matters here. Brute force is discouraged during this round, so the winner could have their Pokémon be knocked out and still win the round.
• Dice rolls will also be used to determine the theme of the contest, and each theme corresponds with its respective number as displayed in the table below. This is to provide a random aspect so that the same theme is not used repeatedly. If the rolled theme is the same as the previous contest, there will be a re-roll.
| | Theme | Dice Roll | | Beauty | 1 | | Cute | 2 | | Cool | 3 | | Smart | 4 | | Tough | 5 |
| | OOC Info: To participate in the Grand Festival, you must earn three ribbons as opposed to the typical 5. This is just to ensure that there don't have to be 30 contests just to have 5 people compete in the festival. |
