My BMW is not a gas guzzler. I get 34 MPG when driving at the speed limit of 60 MPH on these back roads.

I bought it used and the previous owner was an American, so I didn't send any money overseas.

Despite power being included in my fees, I have still converted the entire house to LED's. We avoid using A/C as much as possible. We have found if we close curtains on the sunny side and open up patio doors on the shade side we can avoid turning it on until late afternoon even when its in the mid 30's. We recycle about 3 times what our neighbors do. Not even a postage stamp goes into the garbage and we have all but stopped using paper towels. All our heat is electric baseboard, but we seldom turn it on, even in winter, my wife is going through menopause anyway.

We have a 2008 Honda Fit with less than 100,000 km on the clock, so that is not overused. Our main sin is our diesel pickup which we only use for RV use. A fair bit of that since I lead RV Caravans into Mexico.

He might not have. I don't know what he bought. And any dealer would have been happy to accept it in trade.

MR has a valid point. It's damned expensive to retrofit.

jcapps,
There are ways to help by helping others and keeping your old stuff. People like MR, might do more by helping fund others green moves and limiting their use of the less efficient equipment. The idea behind carbon offsets is like this just on a more general scale. We have several churches here sponsoring groups to reduce carbon release by the younger working families in their churches, one dollar of investment in a family with kids and jobs returns three to five times as much as the same dollar spent on retired people.
