Who would wash the dishes if that person didn't? Somebody has to do it. You're beginning to sound like a republican. It might be easy for you to move to a bigger city, but it isn't so easy for poor people. Normally, you have to pay the first and sometimes the last months rent plus a security deposit to rent a place to live. What if that person doesn't own transportation. What would he live on while looking for a job? You're just angry because the state wants you to pay what someone is worth. You will probably say they aren't worth $15/hour, but what would you do without them? |

Seriously, no one owes the dishwasher a living wage. It was not a job that was set to be a career. Ifg they are too stupid to advance themselves they they do not deserve to be rewarded. Thats the issue, everyone thinks I am some huge lib because of some of my beliefs, I am not, I am in the middle AND I worked for what I have, I worked hard. I chose to make an effort and absolutely no one helped me one dime. If you are too lazy or stupid to advance past the position of a dishwasher you are not owed anything |

Would you wash the dishes yourself to avoid paying someone a living wage? I don't consider paying someone a living wage as being a reward. I think of it as paying for a job that needs to be done. But, Corky is right, it's a matter of supply and demand and business owners can take advantage of people because of that. |

Actually I wash my dishes at home...myself Again in what realm would someone deserve to get paid 15 an hour to wash dishes. What will a person who learned a trade want to get paid? A finish carpenter? What do you suppose he should be paid? |

Gotta agree Cappy. Everyone is given life. It is up to the person to take it from there. Make it or break it. |

That old if I can do it everyone can. That's about as disingenuous as I've ever heard. |

Maybe its old because its factual. You think I owe some sorry ass, lazy sob a living beca use he does not want to exert himself. Is it my fault he dropped out of school? I made the effort and finished I was not fortunate enough to afford college, so I worked hard to make my way |

I am talking employees, they get 30 to 35. Do you think they will take 30 to 35 when the dumb ass unmotivated dishwasher is getting 15 |

Up here a dish washer can make more that $15 an hour because restaurants realize that the job sucks but is absolutely necessary for them to stay in business. Food served on partially cleaned dishes will kill a restaurant. |

jcapps, You suffer from calibrated eyeballs, something I have to fight all the time as well. Money ain't what it used to be. Real question in this whole mess is how well the bottom should live if they do a reasonable days work.

I know Corky but those jobs were not meant to be careers |

jcapps, For some people those jobs are all the career they are capable of, for others those jobs are all the career they want for some reasons. Not everybody has the same wants and needs beyond the base level. In terms of money I make about 20% of the maximum I could make if would "just play the game" like I used to. I feel I do more good and I know I enjoy what I'm doing more now than I did twenty-five years ago.

The bottom line is , if you pay minimum wage you get minimum work. Both quality and quantity. If a guy tells me he can install my toilets , ceiling fans , windows ETC for 15t0 20 bucks an hour , I run the other way. |
