corky

Mistakes were made and discoveries made, what sticks in your mind.

My biggest take away is the fear of our fellow citizens that was engendered by the video coverage and 24/7 news coverage. rather than analyze and understand what happens may have just gone and bought weapons and huddled in their fear.

....like turning back truck loads of Canadian softwood at the U.S. border as Canadian donators flattley refused to pay the 15% tarif the U.S. imposed on Canadian softwood.

Nope, I',m not kidding.
A few weeks after the hurricane, there were some pressing demands for all kinds of construction material in the New Orleans region. One of our local major softwood producer decided to participate in the reconstruction efforts by donating/giving at no charge two full semi trailer loads of plywood/presswood.
After a 7 hour drive to the border, the drivers were stopped as if they were carrying contreband (not an usual treatment at the U.S. border) and ordered to pay up the 15% tarif imposed by the U.S. on all softwood product coming from Canada.
After hours of discussion/negociations at the border with some brainless duty guard dogs at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the truck drivers were ordered to shut-up and turn around.
From this day on, the lumber company has, by choice, not sent a single toothpick to its former U.S. customers, most of which saw their normal supply from Québec cut-off without notice.

Yup. and most of it's white fir from from clear cut plantings. It doesn't have the structural qualities of doug fir.

Because most of what we harvest is inferior in quality.

I don't see any structures falling down because of our "inferior wood".
