When first submitting a character, make sure that you have an idea of who the character is and what some of their abilities and flaws are. Also have an idea of what kind of world you are interested in putting them into. The following are tips on how to create a character for Project Syd.
Character Typing:
- You are welcome to use inspiration for your character from other world-building tactics such as Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder. However, break free of the exact formula and make the character your own so that you may best represent them.
- A character must represent balance, possessing a humanity appropriate for their race. Therefore, it is important to list all strengths, weaknesses, flaws, ideas, and every other aspect of your characters personality.
- When creating a character, please have a history well thought out. Though the future of the character does not need to be set in stone, their past is the only way that other members may get a better idea of who your character is.
- Your characters abilities and equipment must be logically fitting with their characters history and development. Any overpowered, or over exaggerated characters may be addressed and reconfigured with the help of the moderators.
- A good character has multiple facets to their personality. When regarding your character, acknowledge that as characters grow, their strengths, weaknesses, ideals, flaws, etc. will change. Knowing where your character ends is not always ideal, as sometimes, just as your character may not expect the outcome of their adventures, so may not the writer.
Roleplaying & Interaction:
- Be sure to read and understand other characters who you are involved in roleplay with, so as not to confuse their characters or affect them in any way that was beyond the intention of their owner.
- Though you may despise another character, be respectful in roleplaying with them, and do not ever offer anything beyond constructive criticism for the writer.
- If you have a future or even an independent series of events planned for your character, please make sure that you articulate this to any who your character is involved in roleplaying with.
- Be sure to discuss the thread that you are working in with all involved prior to beginning the thread, so that you have a thorough understanding of the interaction that you are trying to create together.
- You are welcome to post independent threads in which your character may have a revelation or interaction with NPCs.
- While NPCs are a necessity for developing characters, be sure that they are modest and offer only simple developments for your character. If you wish for an admin or moderator to play the role or NPC, simply PM a moderator to let them know. Their response is subject to their discretion and availability.
