Frequently Asked Questions

Rules & Guidelines
1. What is godmoding?
  • Godmoding is playing a character that never seems to be harmed, fatigued, weakened, sickened, or otherwise ailed. Godmoding assumes that your character is undefeatable as the protagonist of a world in which there are several heroes. Characters deemed to be godmoding will be warned and possibly terminated if they are deemed as a "broken character"

2. What is powerplaying?
  • Powerplaying is the act of controlling a character aside from your own with the intention of progressing your own character. Within a roleplay, you are incapable of controlling another, so much as to move them closer to you, or taking an object from them. Roleplay is an exchange, and even if the outcome is agreed upon by both parties, powerplays will be seen as improper posts and responses. And will be asked to be addressed as an accident. Excessive powerplays will also lead to a warning.

3. What is metagaming?
  • Metagaming is the act of taking information outside of what your character knows and applying it to the thoughts or actions of your characters. Though you may know the outcome of certain events, or information on other events or characters, you should not act upon it as if your character knew. For instance, unless an NPC speaks to you directly, or the moderator of your world says otherwise, your character did not just "happen to overhear" information and begin to act upon it. This as well as further acts seen as metagaming will be considered improper posts and may be deleted and lead to a warning.

Characters
1. What may I use as an avatar for my character?
  • A character should always be represented by some sort of avatar. Drawn, commissioned, or otherwise self-created avatars are acceptable, while copyrighted images are generally unacceptable. If your character is accurately displayed by an image (such as a photograph) and not just "represented", this may be used, however, be sure to have a physical description which most approximately matches the image otherwise the image may be reported and removed.

2. I want to make an NPC. Am I allowed to do this
  • Only a moderator of a certain world can create NPCs for that world. If you address the idea with the moderator, you are welcome to use an NPC within your characters own posts, however, in most situations, an NPC should be basic and only used to progress a characters knowledge

3. Do I have to post my character profile in my signature?
  • A characters signature can contain anything from profile information to links to other characters or active threads. As your profile information should be found in the side of your posts, it should not prove to be an issue, what is in your signature is up to you, though it is recommended that you include some information that will allow others to easily access your profiles and characters.

4. If my account has become Inactive, how do I reactivate it?
  • An inactive character can be reactivated simply by PMing an Admin, though some changes may be instated dependent on the status of the character and the board.

5. Am I allowed to edit my profile after it has been approved?
  • Any changes made to your profile are allowed, however, if you wish to make a significant change to a profile, be sure to address the change with an admin first

6. Can my character Die/Be Killed?
  • This question somewhat refers to godmoding in which, yes, your character is to be considered mortal and, therefore, they may die. However, the conditions of death may also conflict with powerplays. If you choose to get your character involved in an event which would in most situations terminate their life, you must acknowledge that characters death, however, no other players, excluding moderators, may determine that a character has died except for the owner of that character. A killed character will be archived and deemed inactive. This may also be a method of ending a particular streak of roleplays with one character account. Be sure to know when to avoid godmoding and powerplays to deem when this is appropriate

7. May I use a Dungeons & Dragons/Pathfinder/Etc. Character?
  • YES! We encourage you to build upon your other roleplaying experiences by developing your character through interactions on Project Syd. If your DM/GM wishes to construct a world on Project Syd, and you wish to host your "in between campaign interactions" on their board, this would be the ideal use of Project Syd! Make sure to indicate your characters origins, and be certain, also, to separate the rules of this board from the rules of the game which your character is a part of

Accounts & Posting
1. What is the difference between IC and OOC?
  • IC indicates that a statement is being made "In Character" meaning that the statement is addressed in a roleplay format and is limited to the knowledge, actions, and personality of the character, not the player. OOC indicates a statement made "Out-of-Character" meaning that it is meant to be addressed to other users, and not characters. When switching between the two in whatever board/form you are using, be sure to indicate it at the start of the statement with "IC: or OOC:"

2. How many accounts am I allowed to have at a time?
  • There is no limit to how many accounts one user may have, however, no more than 10 at any time is recommended, as accounts left inactive for more than 30 days are subject to termination.

3. Does my NPC require its own account for me to play them?
  • An NPC in an adventure is typically meant to be created by a moderator of the world. If a moderator chooses to use NPCs, they should create one, single NPC account using the name PlayerNameNPC or WorldNameNPC. At the top of the post, they can give a brief description of the NPC that is posting currently including name and race, etc. This one account is meant to be used for all NPCs. If a player receives permission to incorporate an NPC, they should simply incorporate that NPC within their own post as an interaction the character experiences.

4. Am I allowed to make threads in the past?
  • Certainly! However, please try to indicate that it is a past post, by placing the post within a table. When posting, click the Table BBCode, and fill out the header of the table with the appropriate time stamp (234AD, 6 years prior, etc.), then place the post in the tables body.

5. How many threads am I allowed to have at a time?
  • As many as you may maintain! Know your own limits, we do not have a cap, but abandoned threads may be terminated
