Introduction

Alright ORAS is ending within days and I've always wanted to do a RMT but due to my poor team building skills wasn't able to make one until now. I've played monotype for about half a year, more if you count casual playing. However, after joining Arbiter, that's when I started to want to improve at this tier and looking back on older replays, I think I have improved quite a bit. Monotype was never too fun for me as an OU main because of the whole type matchup nonsense and I was never able to find a type I really enjoyed playing. I was as you can say on a monotype Soul Search. However a few weeks ago, my buddy Typhozzz made me a few teams. I tested a lot of them with her and as I was using her poison teams I came to a conclusion that I really enjoyed the type. That's when I realized I would try and main poison for my monotype career. The nicknames are all based around T.I. albums as they matched pretty nicely

Paper Trail (Venusaur-Mega) (M) @ Venusaurite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 136 SpD / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Sleep Powder
- Synthesis

As I was building this team I noticed 2/3 of my team originated from gen 1. As a huge gen 1 fan this was very appealing to me. The first of my gen 1 core, I chose Mega Venusaur as not only are mega pokemon busted, but venu does so much for the team. It can serve as a soft check to many things, set pokemon to sleep, wall certain types very well and hit pretty hard as well. Thick Fat is a great ability that just adds to its walling power. It has decent recovery in giga drain and synthesis which only make it harder to take down. Hidden Power Fire is to hit Mega scizors mostly as it can be a huge threat to the team but also other steel, grass, bug, and ice types as well. Sleep Powder is just a great utility move that people don't see coming most of the time and even if they do, I can usually set something to sleep. I chose a mixed defensive spread for Mega Venusaur as I found that to be more useful. (Calcs coming soon)Some types Mega Venu does a great job at helping with are; Water, Fighting, Steel, Rock, Ground, Fairy, and Normal.

Urban Legend (Gengar) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Destiny Bond

The second of my gen 1 core, I wanted this team to reliably beat some of the top tier types and decided on Gengar as a choice scarf user. Gengar has amazing speed and with a scarf added on it outspeeds a majority of the fast threats in this metagame. Levitate is a great ability that with correct predictions I can abuse the hell out of. (RIP LEVITATE) Shadow Ball and Sludge Wave were obvious choices as the primary stab moves Gengar could abuse. Focus Blast despite its terrible accuracy, is a powerful move that also adds amazing coverage hitting rock, dark, steel for massive damage. Lastly, I decided on Destiny Bond as a get out of jail free card incase the matchup was difficult and the only way I could win was them choking. There are other uses for it of course. EV's are standard. Some types Gengar does a great job at helping with are; Fairy, Fighting, Steel, and Flying to name a few.

King (Nidoking) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Sludge Wave / Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam

The third of my gen 1 core, I decided on Nidoking as a powerful special attacker / wallbreaker and my stealth rocker. Stealth rocks is self explanatory. It's one of the best moves in the game, breaking sashes and applying residual damage and pressure to the opposing team. Now you could go either way between sludge wave and flamethrower. Sludge Wave helps against the fairy matchup extremely well and without it you're actually in for a tougher time despite being a poison team. Flamethrower I find less useful but can help a lot against grass and steel teams. Earthpower is a great stabmove and Ice Beam is a great coverage move as well. EV's are standard. Nidoking plays a crucial role against Fairy, Grass, Steel, Flying, and Ground types as well as helping against a few others as well.

I'm Serious (Tentacruel) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Clear Body / Liquid Ooze
EVs: 240 HP / 108 Def / 48 SpD / 112 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Acid Spray
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin

The fourth and final member of the gen 1 trio is Tentacruel. I wanted a way to hazard stack and have removal at the same time and Tentacruel fit the role perfectly. Scald is a great stab move as it can spread burns if you're lucky enough and hits fire / rock / ground for some good damage. Acid Spray is the second stab move I chose and helps certain pokemon not set up on me as well as applying pressure for them to switch. Toxic Spikes are amazing against certain teams and the residual damage is so nice. I also really enjoy hazard stacking. Rapid Spin is my final move as it helps get rid of hazards on my own side of the field while keeping mine up. The EV spread like Venusaur is mixed with some speed to outspeed base 70s. (Calcs will come soon) Tentacruel helps with Water, Normal, Bug, and Fighting mostly.

Trouble Man (Crobat) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Infiltrator / Inner Focus
EVs: 248 HP / 124 Def / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Roost
- Taunt

Moving on from gen 1, here comes a gen 2 pokemon. This Crobat set is godly. It's a Stall breaker set with rocky helmet and it's sooo good. First off, Crobat has actually decent defenses! Infiltrator is a niche ability but going through subs can be lifesaving sometimes. Inner focus can be helpful against the normal and fighting matchups due to lopunny and medicham respectively. 0 Atk Crobat Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Lopunny: 248-294 (91.5 - 108.4%) -- 50% chance to OHKO / 0 Atk Crobat Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Medicham: 270-320 (103.4 - 122.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO. Inner focus is rarely rarely expected so they'll usually fake out or predict u to switch and get ohkoed. In Lopunny's case, brave bird + 1 round of rocky helmet damage guarantees the ko. Anyways, moving on. Brave Bird is the obvious STAB damage move to spam and helps against so much. U-turn provides great momentum. Roost is for reliable recovery. Taunt shuts down defogs, status spams, and certain types (NORMAL), etc. The added flying typing helps prevent my team from spamming ground moves and sometimes you can't risk gengar on those switches. The EV's enable it to outspeed base 115 pokemon while having enough bulk to take physical attacks pretty well. Crobat helps against Fighting, Grass, Bug, Normal, Psychic, Dark, Flying, and Ground a good majority of the time.

No Mercy (Drapion) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Rock Slide / Poison Jab / Brick Break
- Earthquake

The final member of my squad is Drapion. Drapion is arguably the least useful member but helps out for a lot of roles. The Dark typing is primarily why I chose it as it prevents my opponent from spamming psychic moves against me. I decided to give it a choice scarf (making this team have dual scarfers), as any other items were pretty much useless on this. Knock Off is a busted move and a powerful stab move for Drapion. Getting rid of items is sooo helpful. I chose pursuit as my 2nd move as it traps threatening pokemon like lati's, victini's, etc. (Mostly psychic types) This originally had brick break for its 3rd move but I decided to change it to rock slide. Rock Slide helps ohko unsuspecting Charizard Y's, do hefty damage to mega pinsirs, (yeah its not a ohko DRAPION IS ASS) etc. Earthquake is my final coverage move hitting steels, fires, and rocks well as hitting other types for neutral damage. Yeah this set has no poison stab as it's pretty useless. I guess you could add brick break or poison jab over rock slide if you really wished. I chose a standard EV spread with an adamant nature because Drapion is terrible and needs all the attack it can get. Drapion helps with Flying, Steel, Fire, Ghost, Psychic, and Normal type matchups.
