Name to be determined

It was a bleak day in New York City. Cars sped by, tall buildings cast looming shadows over the urban landscape. The dully clad business men wearing plaid grey suits, walked through the crowded streets, going to and from their everyday jobs. So to them the day was a perfectly normal one, save for one thing. Two tall men, roughly a head taller than the rest, stood out in the busy landscape. Both wore dark sunglasses with symbols and runes on the sides. They also wore large coats, but they were each different in an obvious way. One carried a very large chrome case shining in the light as he walked, the other, on each side of him had a sword, both had jet black sheaths with intricate pure white dragon designs on them. They walked quickly towards a small corner diner in a remote part of the Bronx, where they had a client waiting. The client was a small, frightened man, balding slightly on top and wearing a plaid grey suit. He looked towards the door as the two men walked in. They scanned the room slowly until they spotted the man. They straightened themselves out and proceeded towards their client. He stared at them in utter disbelief. Could these really be the men he had been looking for? They couldn’t have been much older than twenty-one, yet they were still the most talented and ruthless mercenaries in the world. They each took a seat on either side of the man, they called for the waitress and ordered themselves a drink. The man with the briefcase downed his drink in an instant and ordered another. He turned to his employer and studied him a bit. He placed his elbow on the edge of the counter and smiled.
“So what be the job my, fat friend?” The man instantly got a look of shock on his face as he was taken back by the comment. He regained his composure and started to speak then hesitated, as if he forgot what he was going to say. Beads of sweat rolled down his head as he finally gained the courage to speak, hands shaking slightly as he faced the young mercenary.
“W-well,” he paused for a moment, pulling on the collar of his suit, “I need you to infiltrate a research facility in Russia and g-gain possession of some valuable data.” The other man, the swordsman, finally turned away from his drink and gained a look of curiosity on his face.
“What is so special about this data and what amount of enemy force are we going to be up against?” The short man shifted as he searched through his suit a bit and produced a small envelope.
“T-this should contain all the n-necessary information you may n-need. When you have completed the job, talk to the cook in the back and he’ll send me a message saying you two completed the job.” With that, the small man walked steadily to the door and after taking one last frightful look at the young mercenaries, took off in the direction of Queens. Where the stock exchange is, the one place he feels safe from the two menacing men. The men each finished their drinks and gathered their stuff. They paid for their drinks and walked out the door and headed in the direction of their local safehouse. The waitress cleaned up their table and grabbed the tip they had left for her. She smiled with great delight and ran off towards the kitchen, cups in hand. The two men had generously left her a large tip.
The portly employer ran five blocks from the small diner and hailed a taxi. His mind was racing as he went through a mental checklist, making sure what to do when he made the call. The taxi driver impatiently tapped his foot waiting for the man to give him a destination. His heartbeat slowing, the man finally realized he had forgotten to tell the driver where to go.
“Oh, s-sorry. BMR Headquarters, quickly.” The driver nodded his head, flipped on the meter, and started to weave his way through traffic. It was just before noon, the rush would start soon. The urban landscape was all a blur as the cab flew through the busy streets, although it took only five minutes, it had seemed like hours to the man. The taxi drove off as he walked to the main entrance of the building, spinning doors whispering quietly as the wind passed slowly through them. The building was gargantuan, the inside had a beautiful main lobby, the floor shone greatly as the sunlight passed through the many windows of the room. A large insignia was embedded into the center of the room, the letters BMR were set in a strange pattern that caused many architects to wonder. The letters were colored a combination of black and red, the M set in the back while the B and R sat in front of it, the M’s bottom ends were stuck through the B and R. All of it was set in the center of a large circle, which was weird since the rest of the room had lighter colors. The man walked up to the elevator and pressed the button impatiently. He bounced on his heels, looking around, watching the lone secretary in the center of the room file her nails. The elevator finally gave a high bell sound as it finally reached the lobby. The elevator started its ascension with a low hum, the man watched the floor numbers passed slowly, quietly wishing it would go faster......

The swordsman pulled out the envelope from his jacket and sifted through its contents as they entered the door of their safehouse. It was a large apartment, the wallpaper a clean white and the carpet a jet black. There was a set of well cared for furniture in the center of the room, a pair of small couches, a oak wood coffee table, and a recliner, all a dark red. The swordsman sat down on one of the couches and dumped the contents of the envelope onto the coffee table. The other man took a seat opposite of him on the other couch and laid down and put his hands behind his head in a relaxed position.
“So Aldrith,” he adjusted a bit and pulled off his sunglasses to reveal his golden rimmed eyes. “What kind of files are we after and what’s so special about them?” Aldrith looked up from the scattered papers and took of his sunglasses as well. Staring into his partners eyes, both were a deep blue with a gold rim around the pupils.
“Well Onyx, he conveniently left that information out.” Onyx sat back up and looked at his friend quizzically. Sifting through the papers to see if his friend had missed anything.
“Well then how are we supposed to know what information to look for?” Aldrith searched through the papers and found one with a special insignia on it and gave it to Onyx. The insignia was of an A and a C, cutting into each other in an intricate design.
“All he gave us was the name of the file and its location. Experiment 729, Lab Area Delta, in the restricted sector.” Onyx folded up the piece of paper into a paper airplane and tossed it across the room.
“And lemme guess, the force we’re against is, a large four hundred man platoon. Am I right?” Aldrith looked at one of the papers and shook his head.
“Your right again, how do you always know how many men we have to fight against?” Onyx got up and smirked as he headed for his room.
“It’s a gift.” He continued into the room and closed the door.
About twenty minutes later he came out and found his friend sharpening his swords on a piece of shale. Aldrith looked up at his long time friend.
“Ready to go yet?” Onyx shook his head.
“Not quite I have to select my guns. What you want this time? Desert Eagle?”
“Sure man. That’ll do good. Oh, and grab me some powder bombs while your at it.” Onyx nodded and headed to the back of his room. He opened the doors to his closet and smiled at his gun stockpile. There was enough small arms for him to start a war by himself. The closet contained a multitude of weapons and ammo. Pistols, machine guns, grenades, and a few RPG launchers too. He chose a few small machine guns and his custom dual Desert Eagles, along with his spare for Aldrith. After prepping his weapons and grabbing a pair of gun vests he stepped out into the living room just as Aldrith had finished grabbing his weapons. Tossing one of the vests at Aldrith, he put on his vest underneath his shirt.
“Time to go man.” Onyx picked up his chrome briefcase and headed out the garage door. Aldrith grabbed one last bag of items and jumped into the car. The Audi roared to life as Onyx turned the key and opened the garage door. The black car glistened brightly as they pulled out and headed north, towards their private airfield. In the car, Aldrith divided various equipment between them. Cell phones, C4, night vision goggles, and other various objects. Each of them had their own special items though. Aldrith, had himself Onyx’s spare Desert Eagle and a large array of small kunai and projectiles. Onyx, had a special sword, one made for quick movements with razor sharp edges, along with his favorite weapon in the large chrome case. The blade was jet black, made of a ancient volcanic rock, honed to its sharpest, it could cut straight through a cement block.
They finally pulled up into the small hangar around noon. They jumped out grabbed their equipment and headed inside. They smiled and looked at their aerial pride and joy. Two black, custom made F-32 Raptor fighter jets. Both had small remote controls, radar jamming systems, and a small payload of missiles and bombs. Each looked as though they had just been pulled off a jet carrier at sea. They fueled up the jets and loaded up their gear. They jumped into the jets and opened a hatch in the hangar ceiling. The engines roared and flared as they began their slow ascent out of the hangar. They cleared the hangar hatch and blasted to the northeast. Since the flight would take awhile, they each turned on the autopilots and used the various customization’s the jets contained.
Onyx had fallen asleep on the way to the base and was awoken by the loud alarm stating they had come within close proximity of the target. Aldrith was awaken by the same thing. They both disengaged the autopilots and went to hover mode on the forest fringe at the edge of the base. Night had fallen so their jets were almost invisible on the moonless night. Onyx pulled out a set of long range night vison goggles and surveyed the area. He pulled up his headset and shifted his weight a bit.
“Looks like we’re going to have fun tonight man.” He continued to survey the landscape and memorized all of the positions of the various watchmen and guard towers. Aldrith laughed into the radio.
“Ya, your right again man. Plenty of watchtower guards for you, and plenty of clueless guards on the ground just waiting to be preyed upon.” Aldrith looked around a bit and started to think. “Where you gonna set up for my cover?” Onyx surveyed the area until he located a snow covered outcropping high above the base.
“There.” He pointed out the rocky cliff to Aldrith. I’ll go and drop there. You leave your jet in hover so it could be ready to leave at a moments notice and drop off here.” Aldrith nodded and grabbed a support rope. Onyx flew over the base and landed on the cliff. He pulled out a mesh covering and his briefcase, walking towards the cliff edge he threw the mesh on the ground and popped open the case. Large parts and pieces rested in the velvet case lining. One by one Onyx assembled his prized weapon. A PSG1 military grade sniper rifle. Completely black and customized to shoot 7.72 mm .50 caliber bullets. After it was assembled, he shoved in the clip and pulled back the chamber slide. Looking through the night vision scope he spots Aldrith behind a large tree, waiting for him to give the signal. With one last scan of the watchtowers he muttered into his headset.
“Go....”

On the other side of the world, a young gunner unwittingly came upon a secret that would lead to a nightmare of life and death.

A man walked through the hallow halls of the academy. It was his day off so he decided to watch some of the other recruits as they ran through their gun and tactical strategy courses. He walked down the halls looking into various classrooms, looking for new faces here and there. He finally stopped at a shooting range and waited for his friend to finish his round. He watched as his friend practiced firing a small Patriot. Finally his friend ran through his last magazine and holstered the gun. He noticed that some one was waiting for him and hurried over to him.
“What you doing here Adriel? I thought you had the day off?” Adriel shrugged and punched him in the arm.
“Just looking at some of the new recruits. What are you doing here? You graduated last week.” They started walking down the hall towards the dormitories.
“I know. I just come here to have some target practice. They also gave me a room here.”
Adriel was beginning to say something when the hall went dark and red alarm lights came on. They both looked at each other and drew their guns. They were running down the hall when they heard someone scream. As they ventured towards the origin of the cry they came to a spilt in the hall.
“Which way Adriel?” Adriel looked down both halls carefully. Finally making a decision.
“You go down that one I’ll take this one.” He nodded and ran off down the hall. Adriel pulled out his combat knife and flash light. He checked door after door until he heard the scream again. Several researchers were running in the opposite direction, looking as if they had seen a ghost. As he ran down the hall he noticed that it was unusually quiet, the alarm had turned off and he could just barley hear the researchers running down the chrome hall behind him. He found a door at the end of the hall and heard the earsplitting shriek once again. Adriel tried to open the door and found it to be locked, with no regard for pain he kicked open the door in one move. There was a strange black portal floating in the center of the room, a dark figure with a woman slumped over its shoulder was moving towards the portal. Adriel shot the lumbering figure in the legs and it dropped her and let out an earsplitting shriek. It disappeared into the portal, a puddle of black blood left in its wake. He propped the woman against the wall and holstered his gun. She looked up at him and pointed towards the portal.
“Hurry, you.......must help.......the others.......” She passed out and slumped against the wall. There was a loud bang as a bookshelf fell over and blocked the door. Adriel sheathed his knife, took a deep breath, and leapt into the portal.

The infiltration had gone as planned, Onyx took out the various guards one by one as Aldrith made his way inside. Aldrith darted down the narrow halls, taking out the guards one by one with a small dagger made of dark obsidian. He ran down one hall after another listening carefully for the next signal. He found a small side room to wait in safely. Patiently he sat as guards walked up and down the hall. He knew it wouldn’t be long before his good friend would soon launch the signal. Then he heard a slight noise ring through the hallow metal halls. The sound of boots, ones with metal bottoms, he recognized them easily.......as Onyx’s. Then it followed. The sound of gunfire rang through the building as Onyx made a distraction for his friend to get into the R&D sector of Area Delta. Aldrith saw his opportunity and took it, he rushed out the door and dashed for the R&D sector.
Meanwhile, Onyx was having some of the most fun he’s had in his life. He casually walked into the building, behind him a score or so of dead guards lay on the ground outside . His metal bottomed boots clicked along the floor as he approached a pair of guards, they obviously hadn’t noticed that he had killed twenty of their men outside. The two guards stepped up and stopped him, the first one got a smug look on his face as he studied the young man.
“Who the hell are you supposed to be?” Onyx didn’t respond, he stood there glaring at the guard. The guard was starting to falter under Onyx’s dark eye, he noticed the case in Onyx’s hand and tapped it with the tip of his gun, “What’s in here?” Onyx’s eyes menacingly glowed red in the low light.
“Nothing of you concern, SIR” He said in a cruel, mocking voice. The guard got really pissed off for a minute then smiled. He elbowed his friend in the arm and cocked his gun.
“Well then we’ll find out the hard way.” He aimed his gun at Onyx. “Get the case.” His partner put his gun in one hand and reached for the case. Onyx laughed maniacally and they stopped, fear slowly gripping them as Onyx continued to laugh. Onyx’s eyes changed to blood red and the guards felt a strange evil force overcome them, at the same time a red glow seemed to come from the young man.
“Wrong move” He dropped the case and pulled out his black sword. The blade was the last thing that the guards saw.

The way he was moving with his blade, Onyx could easily be mistaken for Aldrith. One decapitation at a time, Onyx easily took out the remaining guards. “Nobody touches my prize,” Onyx said with a sneer. With a snap of his wrist the blood from the blade sprayed across the floor. Although he took out those guards, he could hear the echoing footsteps running towards the R&D sector. “They must know that Aldrith is there.” He emptied a magazine into the ceiling to get their attention. Unfortunately for Aldrith, the guards were smarter than Onyx thought. They only sent half their unit towards him. “Looks like he’s gonna have a little more fun than planned........Oh well.” He pulled out a pistol to go along with his sword, twirling both as a SWAT like group of guards rounded the corner. “Bring it on,” with that, he charged the guards, eyes gleaming red with bloodlust.

Aldrith heard the guards running his way down the corridor. “Looks like he missed a few” He positioned himself at the end of the hall, swords drawn, waiting for the slip up. There it was! The first guard had come running around the corner and started spraying lead. He stopped a moment too late, Aldrith had already made his move. The guard stood there as the others came around the dark corner, they noticed a glazed look in his eye, a thin line of blood started to show on his neck. Then the body fell to the ground and the head lolled back and forth on the metallic floor, eyes staring back at them with horror. Then they heard it, the singing, the blade sang as Aldrith fought with god-like speed, leaving blood in his wake. The unit stood there, all with stunned looks on their faces. Aldrith sheathed his deadly blade and started walking down the hall, hearing the dulled thumps of the bodies hitting the ground. His bloodlust had subsided now that there weren’t anymore men, He stopped for a moment and listened, “Looks like he finished.” Looking back for a mere second, he turned around and continued down the hall, passing under the dull sign that read. “Delta Sector”

Onyx breathed lightly as the clips fell from his guns and bounced on the floor. He looked back and took in his kill. “Only fifteen here.” He counted how many he had killed outside. “My total is 35 kills. Wonder how many Aldrith managed to get” Onyx shrugged, holstered his beauties, and picked up his case. A radio beeped just as he started to walk away, he went and picked it up, listening carefully as hoarse voices yelled out of the speaker.
“What the hell!?........We need backup! There’s something killing our unit one by one!........” Gunfire and a resounding ring could be heard in the background. Onyx could hear screaming as the ring continued to drone. “Its only one guy! How the hell! Oh sh.......” The line went dead for a moment. Then another voice came through the speaker.
“How’s the game on your end Onyx?” Onyx smiled and started walking up a flight of stairs towards the armory.
“Pitiful man. These guys are nothing. Just a bunch of low rate mercs. I had more fun at the target range back home. You make it to the Research Center yet?” Onyx heard Aldrith sheath his blade on the other end.
“Ya, I’m almost to the restricted sector. Seems they separate these labs based on experiment number, shouldn’t be hard to find the right room. Meet me there when your done.” Onyx smiled as he came upon the armory door.
“Will do man.” Onyx dropped the radio and blew off the lock of the door. His eyes gleamed at the sight of the large array of weapons that lay out before him. “Now what shall I take home with me?” He started going through the weapons, checking them out one by one.

Adriel hit the ground hard after coming through the portal. He had to blink a few times before he could see anything, stooping a bit from the landing he took in his surroundings. Adriel kneeled to the ground to gain back his strength and steadied his breathing. The area he was in seemed a bit like downtown New York. Yet, there was something disturbing about it.......There were no people. At first Adriel had thought he had been just warped to a different place in the world, but...........It seemed he was wrong. He heard the shriek again and reached for his gun, only to find that the holster was empty. He also found that his knife and light were gone, he was completely unarmed in hostile territory. “Not good....” He started walking down the desolate street and noticed that a lot of the buildings had been made out of stone, most of them seemed to be partly destroyed or had holes blown in them. He accidentally stepped into some gooey liquid and looked down. “Looks like it headed this way” Adriel kept walking down the narrow streets and alleyways, looking for some signs of like or something to use as a weapon. He finally came across a small gunshop, set into a corner strip mall. A large pane glass window was the main front of the shop, the words Jake The Snake’s Gunshop were written on the glass in dark red letters. Adriel could see that the main entrance was block by a gun rack, he turned around and found a good sized rock and chucked it through the large window. The pane had shattered nicely, he stepped up and kicked off a few chucks from the bottom and stepped into the dark store. His eyes slowly adjusted to the low light and he took in every detail of the large room, there was a large gun rack behind the counter against the far wall, the store smelled of sulfur and the walls were blackened by bullet holes and black ooze. Adriel walk up to the counter and looked into the gun case. All he found was a bunch of ammunition and some used shotgun shells littering the bottom of the case. He frowned and looked underneath the counter for a weapon. At first all he could see was a small stool in a cubby hole, a couple boxes of bullets on a shelf, and a few other pieces of junk. With no success he looked a little more and found nothing, finally he stood back up and slammed his fist down in rage. Adriel heard a thump from under the counter and checked underneath again and was surprised to find a gun that had fallen out of a secret hole in the top of the cubby, he smiled smartly as he checked it out. A jet black Glock 27C, a brand new model that was designed to reduce shot recoil and made it so that it could shoot straight and true as fast as you could pull the trigger. He pulled the slide back and looked into the dark interior of the pistol. “So its loaded....” He tried to pull out the clip, but to no success. “Now why won’t the freaking clip come out?” He continued to toy with it a bit and figure out a solution to his problem, but once again to no avail. He finally set the gun down onto the dust ridden counter and pulled out the stool from underneath. Leaning back he started to think about how he was going to get out of this place without getting killed, when suddenly he stopped and put his hands in the air. A young man in his mid twenties stood in the backdoor entrance of the shop holding a large shotgun. “Who the hell?” The man came towards Adriel and steadied his grip on the gun.
“Stand up,” Adriel slowly did as he was bidden and kicked the stool back under the counter, he could tell that the man was battle hardened from living here. The man was breathing heavily as he barked out orders. “Turn around” Spinning on his heels Adriel faced the wall opposite of him and closed his eyes to think. “I’d better do something quick....”

Aldrith wandered the dank halls quickly looking for the right lab. “ 726,727,728........AH! Finally!” He finally came across reenforced steel door, in dark black letters the numbers 729 shone in all its glory. Aldrith pulled out a fine cloth and leaned against the door, patiently he started to clean his swords, waiting for Onyx to finally show up. “Knowing him he’s probably grabbing some guns for his collection from the armory right about now.” Suddenly he could hear the clicking of Onyx’s boots coming down the hall. Aldrith smiled and started to think about what they would do with the reward money when he stopped and listened. He could hear the sound of soldiers creeping down the opposite hall, with the sound of Onyx’s boot he almost didn’t hear them. Onyx came up behind him, loads of weapons heaved over his shoulders.
“Something up Aldrith?” Aldrith hadn’t noticed the huge stock of weapons his partner had with him until he saw that he had a chain of bullets around his arm. Onyx looked at Aldrith and knew that there was trouble.
“Ya, we’re in trouble. Lay out those guns you picked up. They may be very helpful here in a few minutes.” Onyx laid down the weapons and named them off in a long list.
“Lets see. We got ourselves a set of AK47s, AK74s, a pair of sniper rifles, a set of pistols, some land mines, a portable SAW......” Aldrith stopped him mid-sentence.
“You found a SAW?” Onyx looked at him like he was stupid. He picked up the gun and cocked it.
“Ya, I can’t imagine a military base of any sort that didn’t have a weapon somewhat like this. Why?” Aldrith sifted through the bags and found himself a small bipod. Taking the weapon from Onyx he attached it to the bottom of the SAW barrel and laid down in a prone position.
“Because, we were set up.” He pulled up all of the bullet barrels around him and hooked the first one up to the gun. He looked at Onyx and smiled, “Get ready man.” Onyx grinned and started loading up all of the weapons he could carry.
“I’m always ready for a gunfight, you should know that by now.” Onyx punched Aldrith in the arm and continued to load up side arms. Onyx pulled out a chunk of C4 and ran midway down the hall, he stuck the clay like explosives all over the wall and ceiling. After carefully inserting the detonator pin, he stared down the long hall and judged the length. “Hmmm........too short to use the single-shot on my rifle.” Onyx pulled out his sniper rifle and detached the large silencer. Then a click sounded from the inside of the weapon and Onyx smiled, the best thing about his rifle had just been activated...........it doubled as a machine gun. The light footsteps of the soldiers slowly grew louder, both of the mercenaries stared down the sights, awaiting the impending danger........

Adriel had been forced up against the counter with his face in the dust, the young man had one had on Adriel’s head and another held his gun. The stranger then noticed a slight glint in Adriel’s eye and then realized he was being held at gunpoint. Adriel had grabbed the pistol and removed the cock chamber on the shotgun and held the pistol to the mans head before he even noticed a thing. Adriel was wierded out at first at how he did it so fast. “How the hell did I do that?” Upon entering the portal and appearing in the world he had felt a strange power within himself but didn’t pay much attention to it at first. “Could I have changed when I came into this world?” He then took the pistol and held it by the barrel and let the man free.
“Hey, I don’t mean you any harm. Just don’t come jumping me next time.” He held out the cock chamber and the man grabbed it hastily and put his gun back together. “What’s your name?” The man put the shotgun on the table and pulled out the stool. Slowly studying the stranger.
“Jake, what’s yours?” Adriel leaned against the counter and smiled. Spinning his gun on his finger while he answered.
“Adriel, you wouldn’t happen to be Jake The Snake would ya?” Jake nodded and Adriel pointed to the main window. “Sorry for the main window then. I had to find a way in and get a weapon.” Jake shrugged, looking at the broken glass at the front of his shop.
“Knew it was going to happen anyways,” He faced Adriel, his features showed great sorrow,“I put a lot of work into this shop, it just saddens me to see it in such a state.” Adriel nodded and shoved the gun in his pocket. He pulled a hipflask out of his belt and took a swig. He offered it to Jake, he took it and guzzled a load of it down, Adriel took it back and checked how much was left.
“Well, that’s the last of my whiskey.” He finished the meager drops and placed it back in its pouch. Adriel stretched out his arms and yawned. Jake yawned as well and his eyes drooped a bit. Adriel looked out the window at the falling sun, the colors playfully bouncing to and fro on a hanging piece of glass. He turned to Jake and he had a small smirk on his face.
“That drink was just what I needed. Need a place to crash?” Adriel lazily nodded. Jake told him to follow and he popped open a secret door behind one of the walls. A small flight of stairs headed upwards towards a small living area, which contained a few small rooms and an even smaller bathroom. He pointed to a room on the far side, “You can sleep there tonight. I’ll be in here,” Jake pointed to a slightly larger room on the opposite side. “There’s a fridge in the other room, only a little water and some bread left, don’t go eating it all.” He spun around for a moment, Adriel not next to him as he just was. “Adriel?” He hadn’t realized that Adriel had gone into his room and left the door open while he had been talking. Jake shrugged and went into his own room, the whiskey feeling warm in his stomach as he fell into a deep slumber, glad to finally have another person around to talk to.

The next morning he found Adriel out in the main shop, dozing on the counter with his pistol in hand, spent rounds littering the space around him. A section of wall had basically been drilled through with bullet holes. “Guess he must have been testing it out” He walked out to the area just outside his shop, the other buildings along the road had been boarded up in time long past, bits and pieces of them also seemed to be falling off. Jake started in the direction of the grocery store a few blocks down, looking for breakfast and something to drink. The small store had been blown out, the glass shards all over the floor, racks tipped over and shelves ripped out of the wall. Jake ventured to the back of the store where a solemn freezer stood. It had been for some reason left alone, a low hum emanated from it, meaning it still had power. Jake undid the lock and popped it open. In the back, laid a twenty four pack of beer, and a large thing of hamburger patties and buns in a plastic bag. He had been saving the last bit of good food and drink for a special occasion, instantly deciding that this qualified. Heaving the pack of beer over his shoulder and grabbing the bag, he started back for the shop. A slight spring in his step and a smile on his face, Jake was happy that things were starting to look up, he started at a quick walk then started to run through the sunlit alleys, trying to make it back before Adriel awoke. As he came up to the final block, he swung around the corner and stopped in his tracks, his heart skipping a beat. There stood a large monster, grotesque in many ways, nearly ten feet tall, it carried a large pipe that had been broken at one end, giving it a sharp edge. Jake cursed under his breath, realizing that he had left his gun back at the shop, he turned and ran back down the alley, the monster releasing a great shriek and began to give chase. Despite its large stature the beast ran fast, it wasn’t long before it had caught up to Jake, cornering him in a dead end alleyway. Jake, his back against the wall, dropped the stuff he had been carrying and closed his eyes, awaiting the impending doom. Then, out of no where, a pair of gunshots rang through the air and a heavy thump landed before him. He opened his eyes to find Adriel standing over the monster, a pistol in each hand. Smoke slowly rising from the barrels, Adriel smiled and holstered them. He walked over to Jake and heaved him up, Jake smiling greatly.
“I owe ya one, that thing almost had me. How did you know where to go?” Adriel picked up the beer and looked at the beast. Kicking the head sharply with his foot to look at the opposite side.
“When it shrieked it woke me up and I followed it here. The other pistol I found on the way here.” He watched Jake pick up the plastic bag. “What’s in there?” They started walking back towards the shop.
“Some hamburger patties and buns from the shop down the street, I was saving them for a good day. I hoped to make it back before you woke up, but that bastard back there ruined it.” The wind blows, paper and other trash skim the ground.
“So how long have you been here?”
