Here you will find "Spoiler" boxes that describe what each different "Spec" for computer is and what they are good for. Click on them to show the content within them.
Part1: CPU or Processor
CLICK MEEEE! Long Explanation Overview: The CPU or Processor is the brain of the computer. It determines what processes can run on the computer and how many.
What does it do though?: The CPU is basically what determines what you can do on your computer, like what video games you can play, if you can stream/record/draw all at once on your computer. The better the CPU the better and the more of these things you can do.
What do the numbers mean?: CPU is measured in two ways, by the Speed and by the cores. The speed is listed in GHz(Gigahertz). Example: 2.0GHz The Cores is listed as a number. In theory, the more cores a CPU has, the more programs or things you can do on a computer at once. How ever, this is not important in your case.
Brands: There are two brands of CPU on the market and most computers will give you the option between them. Intel is the main brand. Very reliable and pretty much the standard for most performance machines AMD is kind of the cheap, little brother, to intel. As they do offer higher CPU speeds and more cores then Intel usually does, they are also prone to overheating and failing easier and earlier(part of the reason my computer died i suspect)
Short Explenation
In short, the processor or CPU is the brain of the computer and is measured based on GHz speed, example - 2.0GHz The two brands are Intel and AMD. Intel is known for their reliability and AMD may offer better speeds sometimes they are also prone to overheating and failing more easily then Intel. And Intel is pretty much the standard in performance machines.
Part2: Memory or RAM
CLICK ME NEXTTTTTT! Long Explanation
RAM or also commonly known as Memory. RAM has the sole purpose of storing temporary active memory like programs or video games that are running at the time. The more RAM your computer has the smoother and faster your computer will run while running programs and games. Ram is measured in size by GB(Gigabytes), for example, 2GB of RAM.
Short Explanation
RAM or also commonly know as Memory is the temporary storage of data. In short, RAM will help your computer run smoother and faster with the bigger and more programs you run at a time. RAM is measured by GB(GigaBytes). For example, 2GB. The more RAM the smoother your computer will run with programs open.
Part3: Storage and Hard Drive
I guess you can click me This is pretty self explanatory. The hard drive is what is used to store programs and files on the computer blah blah blah The most important part is the size. The two most common things for hard drives you will see are GB and TB(TerraByte(1000GB)). In short, the bigger the storage space the better and more you can hold on the computer. Nothing really more to be said about this when buying a computer.
Part4: Graphics
Last one I swear
The graphics card is what drives the video elements of the computer. Such as video games, 3d animation, etc. The better the graphics card the better video games and higher graphics settings you can use.
Im going to be completely honest. I dont know much about graphics cards esp in laptops. You will see stuff like AMD Radion 1351646132 or Nvidea gtx 10001. You will also see "x"GB dedicated memory. This is important for playing video games because it is dedicated memory to to the graphics card and will help with the performance of said game.
If you are going to a store, i would ask someone for advice on the graphics cards in the computers you are looking at.
Recommendation:
Personal opinion
So with all that covered, something to keep in mind is that more does not always mean better. So just because you can get a laptop with 16gb of RAM does not mean you need it. Below is my recommendation based on personal opinion and experience.
CPU: Intel i5 or i7 2.4Ghz-3GHz(2.4Ghz is suitable, 2.8GHz is better)
RAM: 4GB - 8GB(4GB is suitable, 8GB is recommended)
Storage: 1TB+
Graphics: I recommend something with Nvidea graphics personally
And thats it! I hope it helped! Msg me if you have any questions!
