"This figure is over 3.5 times the size of the Earth's population at the beginning of the 20th century and roughly double its size in 1960. This is just scary! Whatever way you look at this, we as a species are screwed! Remember that the VAST majority of new people are born into non-western countries. Now we know how we, the west, has screwed up the planet in our headlong rush through industrialisation and beyone, all of these new people are in countries which haven't gone through that phase yet. When they do the effect WE have had on the planet will be magnified a thousand fold Link

Plus we got war, surely someone will nuke someone. Then of course there is a good chance out of nowhere someone is going to uncover some ultimate virus and it will kill off 1/2 the worlds population, that or someone making the ultimate virus will accidently or purposely set it loose and kill 3/4 the population. So, yaknow there is some hope. Who knows, maybe Global Warming is real and we'll get another Ice Age, surely that will kill us off. Rock on!

I learned about the population explosion in high school some 35 years ago, and the predictions of that time are holding up pretty well regardless of wars, famines, and diseases. This is back when we were actually trying to do shit to progress like walk the moon, and invent contraceptives, and make abortion legal :angry:
