Fucking windows!
The screen started flickering a bit. I turned the PC off, waited a few mins turned it back on and was greeted by that fucking "Windows/System/Config is corrupted" message.

God I'm pissed off.

You got it under control...bummer

Picked up a trojan AntiVir missed yesterday, but it wasn't much of problem. I like easy remedies. Merely looking for humorous motorcycle pics this time.

Better than what happened to me last August, when I restarted... I seen the regular startup shit, right after when the log on screen was supposed to come up, I was greeted by nothingness, a black screen, and I couldnt see shit to fix shit, later sent it to the techy, yeah, he couldn't fix it either, so he wiped the HDD and reinstalled, when I heard he did that I was pissed. I could have done that myself, I just wanted my fucking shit saved. So besides losing my shit, I also had to dish out cash... for something I could've done myself.

I always keep 2 HDDs, in my computer, so if I get probs with one I can use the other to start the pooter up, both are accessable from either HD as they each have there own installation of XP, they both have different programs and desktops.
Still I dont use anywhere near the gigs that zib uses.
Two HDDs one 40gig ata, one 80gig sata. The sata is my usual boot drive.

I used to follow the two hard drive rule myself. One drive houses your OS and the other drive houses your data. Well, thats not good enough anymore. Now I have one drive for the OS, one drive for data, and a dedicated file server to back up to every other day or so. I'll also burn to DVD every now and again and keep the discs in a seperate room just in case of a fire.

Sounds hardcore compared to what I've been doing, but then again, I'm just a broke teenager lol.

Well, 1.86Tb just has a nice ring to it, don't ya think :)

Each drive has its own dedicated purpose though, cept the 320s, they're just general backup drives connected over my network through a Netgear NAS box.
Mostly full now though. I realy ought to do some spring cleaning :)

Just LOTS of miscelaneous stuff. Lots of movies I haven't burnt (I mean backed up) yet, lots of programs and stuff.
Plus, whenever I backup a client's stuff I always keep the data for at least 6 months 'just in case' (in case they piss me off and I need to find something to blackmail them with).
I honestly can't imagine how folks get away with only 80-120Gb of storage.

Good to see ya got it fixed.
What did you find the problem to be?

Seems I have a flickering color change screen event every so often, but it corrects itself and never had a corrupted file message

Just curious

Not at all. I would have thought with you and your old man running that website you'd have some sort of backup plan.

Well, I didn't get the problem fixed :(

I've done a complete system rebuild with a new motherboard (lucky I had it). I was going to use it for another PC but not any more.
Its an Asrock (aka Asus) socket939 based one, and other than not seemingly able to let windows install to a SATA drive (screen just stays black after "press a key to boot from CD") its working well.
I'm currently hosing stuff from the 320Gb drives onto some of the sata ones so I can use them (the 320s are IDE) as the primary drives in this rebuilt system instead of a 20Gb unit that belongs to a client :) and who will probably be wanting it back tomorrow.

I'm still incredibly pissed off coz changing the mobo over is a major undertaking, but at least the faulty one is still under warranty for a few more months.

I'm mostly pissed at the 7 or 8 XP reinstalls I've done over the past 12 hours, not something you'd wish on anyone.
Fucking windows can go Posted Image

I want to kill it with long needles dipped in rotting dog shit!!!!

More updates later.

Also, After all this, I've decided to get a tatoo. Can you spot the link? Coz I sure as hell can't! Get it done in 3 weeks to coincide with my 30th b'day :)

All that porn...

I use a Netgear SC101 and it works quite nicely, however its limited to 100mbps. I'm going to sell it and see if I can find an alternative NAS device that can run at 1000, or perhaps some sort of 4 port external firewire unit that will let me run 2 or 4 SATA drives.

lol. Nah, maybe he has a plan, my guess is he has all his photos on cd. It took years and years before we ever even got dsl, and it's only 256, but it's alot better than goddamned dial-up, we look richer than we are. Yeah, my parents are the old fashioned blue collars, neither graduated from high school, looking at my transcript it looks like I'm not to far off taking the same path. heh.

Damn... I would hate having to reinstall that much... Zybch. Asus? Seen their mobo's before, what brand would you recommend for mobo's? My comp has a Soyo, it's shitty, but it works.

Well till the events of the past week or so (in fact its been a bit flakey since I bought it) I would have reccomended Gigabyte, but not any more.
MSI are great, but expensive. Asus, well, I haven't had an Asus for a while but they seemed okay.
This current Asrock board just feels better, even though I've only been using it for 18 hours its good a nice feeling that I never got with the gigabyte, I can't explain it.
Add to that the the GB cost $250+ and this Asrock was $89 and it gets wierder still.
Its more of a board that OEMs buy so they can sell their systems as cheaply as possible.
Its only got 2 SATA sockets which is a bummer as I have heaps of SATA drives, also, no firewire and 'only' 8 USBs (4 on the rear, and 4 via headers). I got firewire on my sound blaster audigy 2 though and have always used an additional 5 port USB card so thats not gonna affect me any more than it allready did.

Whats great though is although its a Micro ATX board the PICe slot is positioned so my vid card takes up the upper most backplate slotty thing, the GB's PICe slots were so low that the vid card was in the 3rd top slot. Just wastefull. It really made things down lower very crammed indeed.

There is no way I would need all that HD room, shit out of 120gig, and 3 years I still have 60gig free space. If I new what was safe to delete I would have heaps more space, I was looking at my temp files and if I new what was safe to delete, I get it cleaned out. But I know fuck all about it, so if it's running well enough, why tamper with it.
This socket A board is a gigabyte, it's been great, the two before were ASUS they were shit, and expensive, I had a 266mhz socket 7 gigabyte MB which was a good board, they wouldn't get the use any of zibbys boards do.
I've been so happy with this nForce2 gigabyte board and it's onboard sata, LAN 10/100 port, the onboard sound is ok, and I love the BIOS drivers upgrade, which is done online, no fuckin about with floppies. When I upgrade eventually to nForce4 I will get another gigabyte board.
