It'll be fast until coders release even sloppier software and everything will slow the hell back down again.

Very limited battery life when the PC is turned off. That just sucks.
They need to use an array of cheap fast SD cards or something that won't lose its data when the power is removed.
Would make an okay photoshop scratch disk, but you'd still just be better sticking in 4 2Gb DDR simms instead.

Its still bloody cool, but like a lot of stuff when it finally reaches the consumer after being only in the realm of cashed up nutcases, there are a few problems that need to be ironed out. In this case, standard, cheap PC RAM just isn't suitble for this type of application as it needs constant power or your data is lost.
Better off just buying an AMD 64bit server board and populating it with 16 2Gb simms for the moment.

I'm sure it could be modded to use a larger rechargeable battery. The 4GB limit is a drag though.

I have a little device that draws its power from the ATX connector when the PC is turned off (there always power going through that sucker).
It keeps my fans spinning for up to 10 minutes after shutdown to more rapidly drop the temps.
Computers are often hottest immediatley after the PC turns off coz the chips have only just finished working and are still hot, but all of a sudden there are no cooling fans.

Something like this might be the way to go.

However, I just came across this:
http://www.mg.co.za/articlePage.aspx?artic...news__business/

Provided it doesn't need constant battery power to maintain the data its a step in the right direction. 1.5x write speed, 3x read speed, 5% power requirement compared to normal drives.
Looks pretty sweet, but still expensive, way out of proportion to its capacity.
