Claria, a company once {still}vilified for raining pop-up advertisements across the Internet through its Gator software, is betting its business that the answer is yes. Claria said it would announce Monday the release of PersonalWeb, a service that will let people download a piece of tracking software and receive a home page filled with news stories and other information tailored to their interests. Claria says that because those ads are so closely aligned to the user’s interests and recent behavior, marketers will be willing to pay more than they might on other sites for the ability to reach PersonalWeb users. That part of Claria’s plan is convincing enough for some analysts, and privacy advocates appear satisfied that Claria will stand by its pledge to track only the computer (whose owner it does not identify), not the personal information of the user. Whether many consumers will use the service anyway and give marketers an audience worth pursuing is the big question. Link I can't believe that this company is still around! They need to be closed down permanently, but now that MS wants to buy them they can do no evil! |

http://redmondmag.com/news/article.asp?EditorialsID=7316 Microsoft Corp. said Monday it is buying ProClarity Corp., a business analysis software developer, for an undisclosed sum. Microsoft said the acquisition advances its push into "business intelligence," software features that assess financial performance, productivity and decision-making options. The upcoming release of the 2007 Microsoft Office suite will include new business intelligence capabilities, company officials said. Bob Lokken, chief executive of Boise-based ProClarity said the company looks forward to "applying our people and our technology to have even greater customer impact as an integrated, strategic asset within Microsoft." With the acquisition, ProClarity becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft and will remain located in Idaho. The company, founded in 1995, has 142 employees worldwide, including 105 at its headquarters. |
