First let’s start with the basics.

What do I need to harvest?

• Sickles (bought from Upih Khachla (H-9 Windurst Waters))
• Field/Worker's hose, boots, and tunic (not required, but helpful. I would like to also note that I have found no documented evidence that Worker's gear is more helpful then Field gear in any HELM activity, except the added defense.)
• About 20 free inventory slots. (Gobbiebags help ALOT with this)
• and of course Time (all of the items except crawler cocoons are stackable, takes time to get those stacks)
• Preferably a level 32 or higher job (If lower, you will probably get aggro from some of the tougher mobs in the area.)
• A harvest macro (/item "Sickle" <t>)

What do I get from harvesting?

For the purpose of this guide, I will be focusing on the items that can be obtained in Giddeus.

• Moko Grass
• Windurst Tea Leaves
• Saruta Cotton
• Gysahl Greens
• Flax Flower (
• Wijnruit
• Crawler Cocoon (does not stack)
• Fresh Majoram
• Fresh Mugwort
• Vegetable Seeds
• Grain Seeds
• Herb Seeds

As you all can see, there is quite a bit of stuff to get, and in the average trip, a lot of gil to be made.

How frequently do I get what?

Well, to be honest, you will see a lot more Fresh Majoram then anything else. They don’t sell fast, and are almost worthless. Other items that I drop or sell to npc would be Windurst tea leaves and the Gysahl Greens which sell for about 5 and 17 gil each, respectively. These two items are also somewhat common when harvesting.
The real money in this, are the Seeds, Mugwort and the raw materials for Clothcraft. (grass, cotton, flax, and cocoons) Saruta Cotton is pretty common, as are the grass and flax. Seeds are somewhat uncommon, and Mugwort is rare. (with field gear, about 2-3 per stack of sickles)

I would like to also note, your Sickles CAN and WILL break. If you have tried mining or logging, you already know that your items can break... but I have found that Sickles break less often then Hatchets, I haven’t tried mining, but I hear that Pickaxes break with alarming frequency, so this should be a happy change for those of you who have tried mining, and even logging.

The Harvesting Points:

There are ALOT of places these points spawn. Best get yourself a map with all possible spawn points on it. It can be quite tedious taking on this entire area alone, but here are a few helpful hints.

First, get a pattern going. To do this, just figure out a good way to cover all the points in a loop, Personally, I like to head to the center area (the area on top of the cliffs) first, drop down to the east, loop back up to the center, then drop down to the west. This is kind of a figure 8. Eventually if you stick to your pattern, so will the points.

Second, each point will yield between 1 and 6 items, possibly more. Before you move on, make sure the point you just harvested has moved on.

Third, the points spawn ONLY when one that has already spawned has been hit and expended of items. (There is a possibility that points will disappear if not harvested for some time, but I have not confirmed this yet. I will have to do more testing.)

The Strategy:

After studying the behavior of the harvesting points, I have come to the conclusion that SE meant harvesting to be a team sport. Unlike logging and to my knowledge mining, the points are very spread out. For someone harvesting solo, this means a lot of downtime running between the different zones. I have stated before the concept of Team Harvesting, which is where you get 3 or 6 people together, each taking one of the rooms. Doing this keeps the points spawning in each room at a rapid rate. It also means less downtime running around all of Giddeus. There is also a point to be made that each person keeps what they harvest, rather then it going into a general pool, so you don’t have to worry about "who gets what" if you form a party with those you harvest with. Of course, another benefit of Team Harvesting is that you have people to chat with between points, and running around Giddeus alone gets really boring at times.

To sum up everything here, I have found harvesting to be a relaxing way to earn an honest gil in this game. Hope everyone likes the guide, and thanks for reading it. If you see something in error, or want something added/detailed further, then please post.

Happy Harvesting

A note on mining:

Get yourself Field/Worker's gear before attempting. As a former miner myself, I can guarantee that you have zero chance of emerging from a mine in the black. You can easily break 3 picks on one mining point without any HELM gear.
