What is the name of your character? : Viktor "Akula" Carmine

What is your characters age? : 28 (Born July 9th, 2525)

Which race is your character? : Caucasian

What is your character's class? : Warrior / Combat Engineer

What is your character's rank? : First Lieutenant

What is your character's title? : Akula

What is your character’s description?:

Build (Height, Weight, Physique, etc.): 7'0" with a rather bulky and built form, weighing roughly 280lbs. He's overall thick but with a bit of a smaller waist proportional to the rest of the body, probably due to his height.
Body Color: Pale
Eye Color: Gray
Hair Color: Black
Gender: Male
Any Uncommon or Specific Features?: Blast scars scatter around his hands, arms, neck, and lower jaw. Also a plasma burn scar on the back of his left shoulder. Black flame tattoos go up from his hands to his shoulders, having been redone after all this scarring.

What is your character’s personality?: Akula is a man of not so many words and is a person of content. He was humble in many regards as his "older brother" regularly casted a shadow upon him having gone to officer school and was later his subsequent commander. A very professional person and off the battlefield a bit too quiet as well, his "brother" could handle all the socializing, he didn't really need to. He was however rather protective of those whom he had rarely talked to, a memorable point is his shoulder where he took a bit of plasma burns retrieving a downed squad mate.

What is your character's history? :

  • Viktor Carmine was born from Morgase Carmine and Jeffery Carmine on the date of January 9, 2525. A fraternal twin to Morgana Carmine, both healthy and somewhat large children. Their father however would not be much of their lives as he'd go off to war never to return, or at least for their lives growing up in a war against the covenant. Jeffery Carmine was an sergeant in the ODST division of the UNSC marine division, along side him disappeared a family friend and fellow combatant.

  • Viktor Carmine suffered from the lack of any father figure and through his early life seemed to lack ambition while his sister and his "brother" both excelled. He was quiet a lot of his life and once his growth rate was far too fast to explain as just being tall he was checked in for some form of defect or chemical in-balance. His pituitary gland was quite erratic and early signs of potential cancer were screened. It wasn't much of a procedure to fix but money was money, he blamed himself for his sister not getting the toy she wanted that year.

  • The damage was definitely done to Viktor's body. He had grown to be quite the giant by the age of twelve, standing at a solemn 5'10" He knew he was big and with his grades, perhaps the whole brains could be paired with brawns...only because his brain had decided he'd be quite the brawns kind of guy. Athletics and classes were his focus, he seemed to excel...but he never really seemed to be able to connect to his fellow classmates. He was just kind of quiet a bit distant, always afraid to take the first step with talking to people.

  • At the age of eighteen, he talked to his mother. He wanted to honor his dad, where ever he was, alive or not. He wanted to protect his mother and sister, he wanted to go to war. There was a lot of fighting, yelling, screaming and much to come. He fought about it the whole time until his mother was crying. He held her gently begging softly, he needed to do this. It was what was holding him back, always worrying and never getting to do anything about it. He needed to go and protect them.

  • Training was definitely something. Three screening he went through, the initial UNSC marines training. He went through rather well, the only complaint was he wasn't exactly the fastest or of nimble recruits to come through, and his gear was rather improvised because of his size. His second screening was for Force Recon, on asked why he wanted to do it, it was his stepping stone to being an ODST as he required a special forces screening before his ODST screening. More determined than his first round, the not so nimble and fast big lug managed to pass, if only barely.

  • The final screening, the final hurdle for Viktor, was almost lost. He came so very close to failing. He didn't have the years of experience, only one year of military training either with the Marines or with Force Recon. He hadn't been battle-tested like his fellow initiates. He relied so heavily on his body, he ignored the pain, ignored his short comings, he would suffer some injuries that he neglected to tell about until after training was done. He refused to not follow in the steps of his father. When it came time...when they said he would be an ODST, he couldn't believe it. Soon as he was able to he fell right to his knees and cried, just smiling. He did it, he really did it.

  • Initial deployment was certainly a good splash of reality. His armor hadn't been personalized yet but it was definitely big enough for him, the pods weren't but they were kind of a one size fits all kind of thing, he fit and that was good enough for everyone. Being an explosives expert for a type of soldier that would generally be behind enemy lines, well you had to learn to work fast and with what you had. Rationing explosives, being careful, helping the medic when someone was injured. He finally got his experience, but it was definitely sending him back to his quiet humble self, even with being sent up to Corporal after several successful missions.

  • The Battle of Skoje was his first real taste of hell...they were to defend the shipyard while everything was getting shipped off to Reach, it would all go to the future of the war and they had to hold. The Unggoy was a simple matter for Viktor's battle squad, they were just endless, if they had kept coming for the day like they were, well they would of run out of ammo. Snipers came next, casualties were numerous on the comms even in his own squad, there was no way they were going to drag them all out of here for a good burial. Then came the Brutes, it was awful. They tore through people like they were just paper, throwing a man into a wall only to practically staple him to it with his weapon. They were all battered and broken by the time the Sangheili showed up, there was no way they could hold. Viktor only had two men left standing and he was forced to take command. They relied on guerilla warfare tactics and the supplies of their deceased comrades to retreat to eventually the marine's stone "fortress." It was awful, drawn out, and agonizing. It's where he earned his personalization though. His armor gained some added bulk from his own modifications and with a bit of a touch up on his helmet, he became Akula.

  • The Battle of Ballast was definitely a better fight. It was much less brutal than that of Skopje, hell they even would end up winning that one. Sergeant Viktor "Akula" Carmine, lead his combat squad with impressive status. Direct Action missions were regular and systematically taken out by this battle squad suffering only minor causalities through out the conflict. Six months of active deployment usually of Direct Action missions kept Akula busy. He regular asked his men reportedly to feel comfortable with his nickname or his first name because formality left when on the battlefield. Second report of an emotional breakdown of mission, psychological evaluation reported nothing unusual except some level of guilt, would be watched for in the future but had no real red flags.

  • The Battle of Reach was not originally determined as a planet to be fought on for this ODST now a Gunnery Sergeant. It was to be the company's resting period. Things went from bad to worse as the battle for Reach occurred. It was only by shear luck that they ended up in the Evacuation of New Alexandria, by then there was only a small amount of them left. Alongside the "Bullfrogs" they were about the reminder of what was left of the ODSTs on the planet. There had only been a little over a few thousand of them but to be decimated to this point, it was awful...What was left of them after the battle defending the evacuation, they didn't have enough numbers to continue and were sent off with the evacuation force, saved from the doomed planet, only by the fact their comrades were dead, a bittersweet feeling, one that would haunt him.

  • The Battle for Cleveland was the last significant engagement in the history of the war the Akula participated in. He wasn't with the teams that secured the stadium but was with a walking death-squad as they uprooted the Covenant throughout Cleveland. It was like they were still enacting revenge for Reach. They were bitter hate filled and angry. The brutes especially were treated with extreme scrutiny, more than likely from what remained of the old company remembered what they did in New Alexandria. Many civilians died but they saved some...just like New Alexandria, he hated them all, and he proved it in that city.

  • Accommodations and Deployment to UNSC Infinity was what came next really. He had been a damn good Trooper but, he could be more. He was going to follow in his "brother's" footsteps after all it seemed. In the layer half of 2552, after the war had all but been signed on paper as over, Akula went to OCS. The timespan was roughly from October to December. He went to officee training school at the end of his deployment to work on his leadership skills attempting to be more battlefield aware as well as other skills and tpols of the trade. Expertise was on his side thid time. He was jardened and reserved. He wasnt green like the rest. First Lieutenant came easily in grasp, well after his military care we hado bwen considered in a UNSC offive that is. All of his hard work paid off, and just when his mother said there'd be good news when he got home, he was sent off. ONI wanted him for something, apparently it was taking qualified people out for some protection mission, he was hoping it was combat but once he was off and he finally got to know what it was, well there was no turning back. Him and many others were getting sent off far away from home, to defend a ship...that was still being built...he really did hate his luck.

What is your character's affiliation?: UNSC Marine Corps/ODST

What do you see as your character's future? : Akula will more than likely slowly rise up in the ranks as he has been in his career, or he might finally hit a position in which has been designated for him as his "Big Brother" has other better things to do. I do see potentially the greater calling for him however to be brought into the ranks of the Spartan-IV program. There's only so much he can do as is for his friends and family and on a greater scale humanity as an ODST, but as a new soldier it would be worth the hate, he was always a far better leader than a soldier, the farther he got away from leading larger amounts of people, the better.

Explain the background and role of your applied race/class? : Akula is primarily a demolitions expert however he's also well off with many of the heavier weapons the UNSC has to offer. While his hand to hand isn't exceptionally well, if the man does get a hit on you it will hurt. More battle-hardened than well trained for a leadership role much of Akula's knowledge comes from his gritty experience in war, in the live or die kind of situations this war left him in. He doesn't have a perfect track record for designated missions but rarely could anyone say the same, discretion however is definitely not his policy as it's hard to sneak around with him being so big, as well as sneaking around with enough ordinance to leave a small crater.

What would you consider to be your character’s shortcomings?:

  • For his position he isn't the greatest leader. On a smaller scale he can effectively lead with flying colors but whether it's because not adept at leading larger groups or from the pressure of so many people depending on him is unknown.

  • He's slow, and not very agile. While he can get by obstacles in his own brutish way, he usually depends on his equipment rather often to help him get from point A to point B. Navigating around a very narrow cliff face? It'll take him his cord and a secure spot for his line before he'd ever. This is also true in melee combat, his swings or kicks and overall movement is a bit sluggish but only because of his size.

  • He's haunted, in the sense of his memories anyways. He takes every death or every failure to a rather personal level. It wears on him heavily and sometimes he'll have a little snap every so often from not being able to handle the burden.

  • He has a bad temper, or rather when it's finally provoked that is. It might take him forever to calm down but when he's in the thick of it, he becomes all too careless and a bit, excessively violent when in combat, let alone if someone provokes him to the point he challenges them to a good fight.

  • He has Claustrophobia, big guys just don't fit in small places, they usually get stuck, not much else to really say about that one, the pod is really the only place he accepts it oddly enough.

What would you consider to be your character’s strengths?:

  • He's strongman to say the least. This allows him to shoulder his heavier personalized ODST armor, not to mention the ordinance and heavy weapons he carries with him. This also applies to when he gets physical, he might be a bit slow but if one connects you're going to feel it.

  • He's a bit on the brainy side. Not enough to be considered a genius but if he gets to studying something long enough, like that of his overall knowledge of explosives and the physics on how their blasts will effect what's around him, he's at least close to top-notch.

  • He's not a masochist but he can take pain. Being a big target left him get clipped rather often. He doesn't have any superhuman ability to live past what might normally kill a man but he can certainly stay conscious and moving against the pain his body is feeling.

  • A very loyal and kind-hearted person. He might be a bit of an isolationist in the social department but he usually warms up to his Battle Squad fast enough. However it seems to be a double-edged sword because their problems effect him in a significant way especially death or injury on the battlefield.

How many "NPCs" would your character lead and how? : As a first Lieutenant Akula would be in charge of roughly two to four ODST battle squads or a platoon. With assistance of sergeants to help manage such a number of people. However in certain engagements he might merely be in an advisory role or an ODST battle squad depending on what mission, which he has preference over. He was a soldier first then an officer.

Had a quick read through the application and figure the point of it all is because of all those NPCs? The rank and classes are free & revokable.

"Psychic evaluation" Did you mean "Psychological Evaluation"?

Yeah sorry it was autocorrect I think, but I know it's a free rank but looking through the actual like "power" of his rank he might have to lead more than the five npcs, I mean I can just make him a low CO to make it worthy of a char app if that's it I'll fix it an be done with it?

I'd be more comfortable if he was a Platoon as opposed to a company commander, and could you please specify when he attends OCS?

Done, not much to really talk about being trained as an officer as a memorable point most of his preperstion or learning experiences were during his NCO days. The only reason I gave him such a a large amount was that was what I was looking up said but yeah I limited it.

From what I understand, First Sergeants don't come in a large quantity within Platoons >:P.

No they don't it's usually one or two, typically they lead about three fireteams. However ODST battle swuads are of eight people which almost meets the bare mimunum of a first sergeants minimum usually. I can just take out first if you want but the correlation of ranks rl to here in leadership of an amount is hard to just place because what Akula would be leading now an NCO would be leading. Not really arguing just putting the point across. Deleted first none the less.
