![]() Dramatized depiction of Spectres featuring Regimental Colors and Insignia December,2553 We sat down with Colonel Arthur Holt of the Ascalonian Spectre Regiment (ASR) to discuss the purpose and role of the Guard's Special Operations Force, and the selection process Guardsmen are subjected to. "The Spectre Regiment falls beneath Ascalonian Guard Special Operations Command, all serving members of the Guard and Civilian Candidates can nominate to participate in the screening process. Where if successful, the candidates will proceed onto Selection. Screening is available to both males and females, though we don't compromise on standards of physical fitness and capability so the bulk of Spectres are men. All Candidates undergo a vetting of their Civilian or Guard records, which is followed by physical screening, psychological and medical evaluation of all personnel. We've also recently implemented Gene screening upon review in the screening process to ensure only the most medically fit personnel can proceed onto selection. The Spectre Training Course is roughly two months of intensive of uninhibited training in war fighter skills. All Spectre operators are trained in SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape), Urban Fighting, Hand-to-hand fighting, roping, parachuting in land and sea environments including the use of the SOEIV Pod. They're trained in basic demolitions and heavy weapons, machinery and vehicle operation skills, signals and first aid, finally they are intensely trained in Close Quarters Battle. Spectres receive opportunity in their career as necessary to participate in more specialized training courses. Most importantly, during the training course. Any individual can be removed from the course if their performance isn't to an acceptable standard or do not attributes necessary to become an Ascalonian Spectre. The Spectre training battalion features a permanent staff of Senior Non-Commissioned Officers and Officers, their role is to enforce the course's curriculum and psychologically break each of the candidates, to strip away their dignity, to completely crush and destroy the individual character of the candidate. The training battalion suffers the greatest attrition of candidates here, it's where the training battalion's staff really take ordinary Guardsman or Civilian and turn them into an Ascalonian Spectre, a type of individual with an explosive charge of hatred, spite and craving for revenge. The most difficult part after this is teaching a young man or woman how to focus this aggression onto their target or objective. The Esprit De Corps of the Spectre Regiment is quite high, they are motivated and proud. It has become a regimental tradition to provide a Spectre with a nickname after they complete the training course. which is often sarcastic or ironic. The largest Spectre in a Platoon might be called "Skinny" or the junior-most spectre "Duke" for example. Though they are obedient, Spectres aren't given orders in the sense we tell them to do something, they're asked for their opinion. Because each Spectre is expected to think with a degree of independence and exhibit focused aggression. For example. "Would Your Excellency be of a mind to clean the floor with his toothbrush?" |
