Hi everyone, and Welcome!

mornincoffee

I just added a topic "1966 Flashback" for fun, or to make us feel old. :( Click on "Class of 1966" up thar, in orange across the top menu bar to see it. I'll add the other classes as time allows. Click around and get familiar. I welcome any questions, suggestions and I look forward to your contributions!

You might want to try the "testing" thread as a first start to become familiar.

It was so good to see you all even if it was a brief trip for me. I didn't have near enough time to visit and catch up with you all, but gazing on your faces was "chicken soup" for my soul! Thank you to all who still live in the area and put together a wonderful event, as you always do.

So, now, we can put some more things "to the test" on this board. I can see where there might be confusion on where to post after a reunion, but don't worry about it - we can find what works and the important thing is to post - the 2 yellow paw prints will let you know there is something new to read. I had our class reunion invitation scanned and it appeared at the bottom of the home page, but since the date has passed now, it doesn't appear. It was of little use this year since this was not started until May and only a handful of members, it should be useful for the next one. And, other class years as well. The scan is still there, though, on the calendar - see link. For future reunions, any updates or changes could be made for all to see and make it easy for the organizers to keep others up to date.

I look forward to all of the pictures and stories you have shared. I remember Miralee's cute story about fishing with Cheryl so that would be a fun one to post here for posterity. And, the one Nancy shared about that poor Leon! lol

Let me know what questions you may have about posting pictures, or anything else. I've tried to cover the bases, but surely have missed some and some things just can't be tested until you have live warm bodies trying different features. You can read what we found to work in the "How to...." threads. It's a super busy time for me, but I'll check in to see if any questions or suggestions are posed. You can just post the questions - preferably in the "how to..." thread so others have benefit of your question and then the answer - a working tutorial. Or, if you're more comfortable with emailing or sending me a pm, click on my name, it will take you to my profile, then click on either the e-mail or pm link and correspond that way.

We need to get Don Davis over here so he can save the pictures for another fantastic DVD/CD. Which reminds me, you can save pictures by right clicking and doing a "save as". We'll have to write up some instructions for those who don't know how to do that. Like all these things, it's easy once you know how to do it. I just wrote up some sketchy instructions in the "How to...." thread.

I also wanted to apologize for complaining about Facebook or other sites at the reunion. I belong to FB and use it as well - it certainly has its place and function. I found a few of you that way so all is good. It's just that I longed for something more comprehensive when it comes to our "roots". And, the ability to span several decades, post old pictures, old stories and the ability to use the "search" function to find them as the board grows. Perhaps one day our children, grandchildren and beyond would enjoy some of the pictures etc. - all in one place. I belonged to the other one but found it unsatisfying as well. And, they require payment to see what I saw as a bunch of nothingness. Perhaps it has changed since I was a paying member. If so, then I stand corrected. FB is much more useful, and free, as this one is. On down the line, we can pay a fee to get rid of the advertisements, but for now, thought we would go with the free version to see what interest there might be. I don't benefit from any of the advertising, only Zeta does.

shrug2 I honestly do not use facebook. First I don't have a smart phone. Second I have observed my Daughter and Granddaughter as they are constantly checking the blurbs from their friends on FB. The exposure level, as I understand it, can be controlled. Not too much information or a complete person revealed to the world.
My observations of my two young Ladies and their FB time leads me to believe that many people who use FB either can't control or lose most of their modesty as they expose their lives and problems to all the world of their FB friends.
My Daughter and Granddaughter have often commented that pictures and texts they have found posted to FB share far more information and pictures they would rather not have seen. They are actually "freaked Out" by some of the problems or situations their friends share on FB.
I know of no other person I wish to share all of my feelings and love with, my good days and bad days are the things I trust only to my best and most trusted friend my wife. She is always on my mind and will protect our shared trials and the wonderful mysteries of life we discover and live to solve together. FB can never be nor should not be tried as a substitute for that closeness as many people seem to try to use it.
I am certainly not a prude or an angel but perhaps if friends protected the special facts of their everyday life more carefully and did not trust hundreds of people to provide them with answers, maybe this would be a happier more logical world. "Too many chiefs spoil the broth."
Sorry, if this is closed minded of me. I also do not know how most people my age use FB, so don't consider this a personal attack on anyone. It is just my observations.

I agree with much of your take on FB, Don, especially for the young. I gasp when I see some of the things they post. However, as a user of Facebook, it does have its place. Knowing what that place is takes time to determine. As "oldsters", I found it confusing mixing my high school friends, post-high school friends, various work place friends, then relatives and then relatives of relatives etc. a disconnect. When I first joined, and believe me, I was reluctant, I decided it would only be family - mostly my kids to keep in touch. They wanted me to join. Then, bam....however it works, I had all of these other requests to "friend" from people I barely knew. I even refused some which became an unintentional cause of hard feelings. Anyway, I do enjoy some of it now but am still fairly guarded, but probably not guarded enough. I do find it fun that great grandmas use it to keep in touch! My d-i-l's grandma is on FB and is able to see her family and share. There are a great many of us (from RHS) on FB that I never would have found otherwise - that's its biggest plus, imo. I don't have a smart phone either - that is just one of many ways to access FB. I think the feature I like best is sharing pictures or articles of interest with the masses so I don't have to e-mail and remember who all might be interested. Much the same as I like that on here.

In relation to starting this board, though, I found FB, Myspace, those others such as classmates.com (et al) frustrating and incomplete (and some charge a fee) and most of all, a mixed bag of folks. I wanted a place where we could post things unique to our roots under one roof, AND then be able to find them again. i.e. - the search function works very well here so that is terrific. And, the search by member's posts is another great feature. No reason for things to get buried and never seen again. I also liked the ability to have the public side and the more personal side through membership. Of course, building the membership is difficult for 50+ years of classmates. Now that it is ready, I guess I should be "recruiting" more. Sales was never my forte.

Regardless, however we all wish to communicate via the web, it's still the internet and as everyone already knows, caution is always in order.

I woke up this morning with a heavy heart thinking about our classmate, Dick Arnold. His wife, Judith, passed away on September 21st and her services are this morning. Although many of us only see each other in 10-year (and recently 5 years) increments, there is a bond that is unexplainable, at least by me. I just saw Dick briefly on July 9th, and had I known that 2 months later he would be going through this sad time, I would have given him an extra hug. We did know that she was very ill, though.
