Something everyday of the week. They told me that weekdays typically are finished between ~10:00 p.m. and ~11:00 p.m.

I went to the one that was tonight....$100+$10. I've been wanting to hit CC for a Poker Tourney for a long time, and today "felt right". Blinds were 20 minutes, starting at 25-50 with a 4,000 chip stack, and had 54 people signed up for it, paying out the top 6.

In the end, just before we went from 4 tables down to 3 (they broke up the table that I was on), I got rivered by someone giving them a set of 6s vs my top 2 pair, effectively crippling me. At that point, the blinds were at 100-200, and from then till I got busted with the blinds at 400-800, I was always between 2.5x Big Blind to 4x Big Blind. Definately, never more than that. Effectively, ~70-80 minutes as the obvious short stack at the table. In the end, I was busted out in 17th place, when I got on a pre-flop all-in with Q-2 Hearts under the gun @ ~2.5x BB (2,100 in chips w/400-800 blind) by the small blind's A-8 off. I was happy with how well I survived as the small stack for that long, but whenever I did get all of my money in pre- or post- flop, I failed to cash in big because of no callers against me. I even verbally poked fun at the chip leader once because he wouldn't even call me my 1,800 chip all-in with his 13,000+ chip stack, and he was 2 to my left on the table.

Heh, that is why he has 13000 chips. No foolish calls.

So, tonight... Paul and I head up there... We get seated on the same table, 1 person apart.

Shortly after sitting down, Paul gets his Royal Flush paid off by some tool, and quickly becomes the chip leader for the first ~90 minutes of the tourney. He hits a few other hands, before trying to make a variety of (mostly) pre-flop all-in calls, costing him his chip lead.

I play really tight during this entire time, with my 2 best hands pre-flop being 2-2, 6-6, and 8-8.

Eventually, I get a little short on chips, and win 2 pots on almost complete bluffs (2nd or 3rd best pair), with some oddly timed/amount raises.

After the 2nd break, I get dealt 8-8 in Middle position with 8 people at the table (300-600? blinds). I pre-flop raise it to 1800 straight. Only the big blind calls. On the flop of Q-7-5 rainbow, I raise 1300, now putting about a 1/4 to 1/3 of my stack on the flop. The big blind, after waiting ~2 minutes, pushes all in over the top of me and has me covered. After thinking about the pre-flop raise call, and post-flop action ... I come to the determination that he either has a pocket-pair or a K-Q or A-Q hand. I end up folding it after ~2 minutes of thinking.... Right or wrong, I don't know. People at the table referred to this guy (Asian) as "Sunny" as if it were his name or something. After that fold, I proceed to get up from the table to take a 2 minute walk, to clear my head...

I come back, only to see Paul's 10-10 vs someone else's J-J gets Paul crippled.

After a while, I play tight and smart, and regain a number of my previously chips.

A solid 30 minutes later, I go over the top of the table's shortstack's pre-flop all-in with A-K, only to have Sunny go over the top of me again. J-10 Suited vs A-K Off vs K-J. In the end, a Jack hits on the flop, only to see the river bail me out with an Ace, giving me the much needed triple-up.

A few hands later, we merge to one table, and I get K-K in the cut-off, with 400-800 blinds. I raise it to like 2.5 or 3.5 BB. I get pushed back with an over the top reraise by the chip-leader in the BB. I then push all-in, only to see him flip over A-A. I proceed to lose that pot against Quad-Aces, getting severly crippled.

A hang in, and continue to play short stacked for a while, and get a few more pots by selectively stealing the blinds. Eventually, I'm threatening the chip leader again, only to see K-K again, and this time against a flush draw, which hit costing me the chips that I won back.

The 2 hands later, I get K-K again, and double up with it, putting me back into contention.

We eventually get down to 5 players, putting me into the Money, then the following happens.

I'm in SB, with 1000-2000 Blinds. I have 13,000 in chips. I get dealt A-Q off. It folds around to me, and I raise the pot to 4,500 even, leaving me with 8,500. The BB guy looks over at me then pushes All-In on me. So I call his Pre-Flop All-In raise.... His 9-9 hold up and busts me, giving me 5th place prize. The difference between 5th place and 4th place prize money was only ~$24.

At least I can now say that I am good enough to cash in the Tourneys at Cripple Creak.

In the end --- Was the Preflop A-Q call the right move? I still feel that it was, even if I was a drawing hand.

Congrats man. I think A-Q is a strong hand 5 handed.

Tough luck Paul. I hate when I flip over what I am thinking to be a race, only to find out I am dominated.
