Kevin 1SickDisease Eyster anybody ever play against this guy, he lives in Denver, one of the top online poker players in the world In October 2009, Kevin 1SickDisease Eyster debuted in the PocketFives.com Online Poker Rankings. Six months later, he sits comfortably in the Top 10 on the strength of multiple wins in high-stakes tournaments. One month ago, Eyster came out on top in the PokerStars Super Tuesday for $74,000. He rounded out the 2009 calendar year by making waves across the online poker world for taking down the Full Tilt Poker $150 rebuy and Cake Poker $250,000 Guaranteed for a combined $131,000. He’s largely flown under the radar, but has quickly become one of the game’s elite. Eyster has even excelled on the live circuit, taking second in a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max event during the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for $65,000. One week later, he recorded a win in a $500 Pot Limit Omaha Shootout for another $3,500 in the Bahamas. Eyster told PocketFives.com, “I’m probably the only person in the top 20 without a six-figure score. Everyone who knew me thought I would make the top 10 sooner rather than later, but I thought it would take a few more months than it did.” The wins kept coming for Eyster, however, who makes his home in Colorado. His other poker accolades include taking down the PokerStars Daily Eighty Grand two times last October for a combined $50,000. Eyster also dominated the competition in the Full Tilt Poker Friday Night Fight for $30,000. However, he noted that the Super Tuesday win marked a turning point in his online poker career: “In terms of money, the $150 rebuy is my biggest score, but the Super Tuesday a few weeks ago was the one that will keep me atop these charts. I was dropping slowly and had a ridiculous dream after the $1K Monday that I would win the Super Tuesday the next day and even debated not playing it. Fortunately, I went on to ship it against a sick final table.” When we asked Eyster to interview, he told us that he was 20-tabling and his responses might be a bit delayed. He explained that he’s primarily an MTT player, but “I play a few sit and gos and cash games on random occasions. The last time I sat down to play cash, I was playing $5/$10 heads-up after busting from the Aussie Millions and won about $20,000.” Despite his success, several fellow poker players reviewed his performance and told Eyster that he was running above average. “I’m taking their advice for now and sticking to MTTs only.” So far, it’s been smooth sailing. Eyster has played poker full-time for two years and joined PocketFives.com in early 2008. However, he has only made three posts, which might explain his low profile: “I’ve made three posts on PocketFives.com ever. I just read a few cover articles here and there. A large portion of the poker community actually knows me personally and they would probably say that I’m too busy grinding to be posting on the side.” In March, Eyster tallied $152,000 in tournaments that are tracked for the PocketFives.com Online Poker Rankings in 66 qualifying cashes. Eyster made the move from Lafayette, Louisiana to Denver, Colorado and, accordingly, wanted to send a shout out to his peeps back home in the Deep South: “I lived in Lafayette my whole life, so aside from people in Denver, I’d like to give a shout out to them and everyone who has helped me and impacted my poker career. Also, I’d like to recognize to my backer, Jon rocketmist Davis, who kept me alive and in the game.” Davis hails from Boston. At the time of writing, Eyster held the fifth spot in the Rankings, down one spot in the final release of March. He sported the fourth best PLB score in the game, but sat in seventh in the Pro Poll. He was sandwiched in between DoylesRoom pro Chris moorman1 Moorman (#4 worldwide) and David Doc Sands Sands (#6, pictured at right), who have won a multitude of Sunday Majors.
