So, did you have him on a bluff the whole way? The reason I ask is because on the Turn, if I have the guy on a bluff, and I am on a bluff as well, with no draw, I don't check-call. I would prolly check-raise on the turn to get the guy off the bluff seeing as how you really have shit yourself. I check-raise just to make sure this guy doesn't get lucky and river something on me. To each his own... Congrats on the win!!! |

Congrats on the cash. Yeah I would have played that pretty differently. It was a bold call, not one I would have likely made, and to be completely honest with you, I think you got a little lucky here with this hand. It is really tough to make a concise read online unless you've been playing with that player for a while, have extensive notes on him, and he's shown that he's capable of making bluffs like this in past play. A-X is definitely within the range of hands he could be in there with, but I don't think the range is limited to just that hand. DJINN |

well me and him were on the same table for a good while, and the whole hand felt fishy as hell to me, he called my preflo and flop raises and then on the turn when i decide to check he raises me when a 2 drops?, then pushes all in when a 4 on the river drops, he show bluffed me a couple hands early on and felt for sure he was on one of 3 hands A-8 or A-9 or A-J(and i had him slim on this hand) and that he had called the flop on a gut shot chase, nothing else made sense to me., i felt if he had A-10 or better he would have shoved, as he did a couple times before, same thing with pocket pairs, i saw him shove a couple times with pocket 2's and pocket 4's, This is 6 handed, much diffrent monster then full tables. It is hard to get reads online, but i felt this was a sure shot read on this guy. Edited by MANGLER, Apr 13 2010, 12:59 PM.

Understandable. Then the question comes up that why the check-call on the turn? You have nothing, and you give the "bluffer" a chance to see a card without punishing him. Granted, you won the hand, but I think others may agree with me, the check-call allows for the bluffer the chance to catch an 8 or whatever his out card was at the time, seeing as how you had nothing as well. Knowing he is bluffing rigth there is fine, hard to tell, but fine. You had the read, and it was right, I just think that the check-call was a wrong play, allowing for you to fall into disaster. If you felt he had A-8, A-9, A-J, then any of those 9 cards on the river should scare you. Why allow him a chance to see it? (I mean, he could have had suited KQ, KJ, or some other hands a big stack would play in that position. These would all be cards you would have to worry about.) My point is knowing someone is bluffing is fine, but allowing them to see cards is very dangerous when you have nothing yourself. Hindsight is always 20-20, fact is, you had a good read and made the right call and took down the tourney. Grats again. Edited by Febiv, Apr 13 2010, 01:13 PM.

Call allows donk chance to bluff rest of his stack. Since mark fully trusted his read he could do this IF he is willing to let his hand go if an 8-10 fell on river. I think |

Frank is right the right play was for me to check then push all in on him. i could have got unlucky on the river, IMO i felt i had the right read on him and his turn bet cemented it for me as this guy was a shover any 2 face cards above 10 or any pocket pairs and he was pushing all in, there was no way that 2 on the turn or the 4 on the river helped him. i was getting greedy with the call. me and this guy were at the table for awile before this hand and i saw him play alot of hands and had about as good a read as anyone could have on someone online. I could have played it safe, i was 2nd in chips at the table, but playing it safe sometimes only gets you in the money, i felt if i had a chance to win this tourney then this would be the hand that did it or busted me in the process, i was faced with this same situation a couple days ago on full tilt where i took 4th even though i was 2nd in chips 4 handed, i ended up trying to play it safe and almost got blinded out till i pushed and got out drawn on, maybe if i had been more agressive instead of playing it safe i would have had a chance to win that tourney too, so i think that had alittle bit to do with my call and was in the back of my mind. The call wasn't a snap call, on the turn and river i replayed the hand in my head over and over and came to the same conclussion, i felt it was a bluff, and i felt i had him on the right set of hands, its hard to explain but i knew, some of you have felt it before, do i know this all the time..... no but , i felt i had it right there. if he had played at a diffrent table before this final table then i am 99% sure i don't make this call, because i wouldn't have had a feel for his play . You also give donk to a chance to catch up and suck out. He committed a nice chunk of his stack... As I said, Mark had an awesome read on the guy, but on the river, luck could have bailed the guy out and turned Mark's read into something awful, like felt. Fact is, he made an awesome read, acted on it, and it paid off, but winning the hand doesn't make all the plays correct. ![]() Letting the hand go after committing so much to it is not something I would want to do against someone I have a solid read on. I would want to punish them...not give them a chance to catch up. If Mark had A-10, then I can see giving the guy some more rope, but he had nothing himself and played it risky by allowing the guy to see another card for "nothing" really. Worked out in the end, and that is all that matters. |

In the short term, that is true. In the long term, the most important thing is to learn as much as you can from this scenario and understand that his opponent's range of cards may have been more vast than initially expected. DJINN |

Still not sold...Consider same hands, but flop is Ace high. Mark is still winning and guy still has same 3 suckout outs. I know I would milk that hand(headsup), as you cannot continue to play with fear of the suckout Can you? Know I would prolly play it as you have stated with either pushing on the turn or folding, but I propose we overly think this situation |

Jeremy, you have J-10 hearts. Flop comes 3-7-Q all hearts. Guy bets into you, but you are sure he doesn't have flush yet, but you are pretty sure he has the nut flush draw with the Ace of hearts. What is your action? Hell yes I play in "fear" of suck outs unless I have absolute nuts. Any pro will tell you to punish people for cards. No free shit around here. If you want to draw out on me, you will have to pay for it, regardless of my read. Mark had absolutely shit! You are speaking like he had a hand. He was calling the guy down, calls that would have left him crippled in the end, with nothing. I can care less what read you have, the chance of the guy sucking out alone is enough for me to punish him for his insolence at trying to bluff me on the turn, not give him a second chance at life. Second chances aren't cheap with me, maybe you like it, but unless I have the nuts, I will not allow a player to catch up and possible pass me for free. The guy called a pre-flop raise, he could have easily had dueces...which beats Mark. Edited by Febiv, Apr 14 2010, 10:50 AM.
