I have plenty of free time... ...but no money in the bank account, or I would be going as well.

This weekend (Memorial Day), New Year's Eve, and July 4th weekend are the 3 best Poker table weekends to go up to CC, according to my former roommate Cory Pockat (X-Poker Dealer @ Midnight Rose). The games were the shoftest on those weekends, as well as the most non-regulars sitting at the table donking off the money.

I am playing online today, and the way FT is treating me, I may give up poker all together. Cashed in half my SnGs (2 out of 4 so far), but the suck outs are killing me man. I am playing in a RUSH tourney now, 100 out of 350 at the break, but I was 3rd until a hand I had AQ on the button, raised to me about 3 times the blind, I call. Heads up.

A45 rainbow, I check to the raiser, he goes all in, I call, he flips Jacks....don't need to tell you whatt came on the river. It seems rather vicious towards me today.

And since the break I have not shown a single winner in about 100 hands. This is amazing!

Rob and Marcus have been talking about ft actual odds for hands in place of real odds. Suck outs are sickening. May I remind you I am 0/5 with AA vs KK allin preflop, and 0/3 with KK vs AA.

Those are the types of stats that Bob Goodfriend quoted me as to why he has sworn off Poker entirely now, and refuses to touch it again claiming that there is no skill left in the game.

Wow, then it must be rigged. LOL. You guys seriously crack me up.

No offense to Mr. Goodfriend but whatever his stats are, his sample size is likely to be so microscopic that it's not even worth bringing up (like going 0/5 with AA vs KK, Jer). Your friend can swear off poker all he likes, but my guess is he was stuck with a beat (or several) that trained his brain to conclude that the game has no skill involved. That is about as ignorant as you can get. It's a classic response to someone who cannot win at the game, because it can't be *their* fault they are losing, it must be a flaw in the game itself. A game that has been providing incomes to amateurs and proffessionals for years. I'm sure Mr. Goodfriend is a smart fellow, but poker requires that we learn the game in a way that the human brain wasn't designed to learn things. Let me give you an example:

You're casting a fly line into a river. It doesn't go where you want it, so you make an adjustment and try again. Doesn't work, so you make another adjustment and try again. Repeat until you've made all the right adjustments to where you've cast your line where you want it with perfection! That's how the human brain learns. You CANNOT learn poker this way.

To quote Texas Dolly, "poker isn't about money, it's about making the right decision." Your long term profit comes from making the correct decisions. So you get all of your money in with AA pre flop against one opponent and he shows kings. Congrats, you just made the right mathematical decision and you are a 4-1 favorite to win. This mathematical statistic is a constant. It cannot and will not change ever.

The flop comes K-K-2..

Did you do anything wrong? No. You made the correct decision. But your brain becomes extremely confused when it has been trained to perform a correct action only to be punished by a horrible result. Hence why people are quick to apply some rather poor reasoning: that the game obviously must be flawed, because I lost!

There are exactly two ways you will lose playing poker.

1. Playing poorly and not making good decisions.

You can and should control this---you can help this, you are in control of this.

2. Playing well while making good decisions, but losing to an improbability (not an impossibility).

On the other hand you can't help or control when this happens. The flop, turn, and river are out of your control, so the only thing you can do is play +EV situations and know that although you'll take some beats from time to time, you are playing high probability poker and getting in your money when you are a favorite and they are left with no choice *but* to suck you out.

I'll be the first to admit that the online game is harder due to all of the software out there now that can track other players hands and statistical tendencies. But I still play in the SnG's with moderate success and do well in large sized tournaments. If I'm ever going to play cash game, I'm going to do it where I can see my opponents. That's my policy. Intuitively, I can usually make a lot of profitable and bet saving techniques if I can look at the villains. That and playing with a bunch of bots is pretty freaking boring and rarely profitable.

But don't go blaming the site or the game just because you're either playing bad or because your playing good and getting bad results. It happens, and sometimes it happens a lot. Keep playing good poker to get yourself unstuck and start winning again.

Not blaming the site, don't see where I did. What I did do, was make a sideways comment about "quitting poker all together". And as you can see, I continued to try and make the right plays. We both know I am not quitting poker, but we also both know runs like this are very frustrating.

I felt I made the right plays, 117th out of 1300 isn't bad, not where I wanted to end up, nor where I think I should have ended up the way I was playing, but that is the nature of the beast...like drawing 7 land in a row in Magic...it happens.

Keep playing well and making right decisions...and it SHOULD pay off in the end.

I like this, and think I will adopt the same policy.

I don't mind the MTT online, nor the SnGs, I tend to do well in both. I am down to my starting stack on FT, but will be making efforts to make it grow with MTTs and SnGs.
