Here's a fun little dilemma...

You probably saw the announcement that, beginning with Besieged, the order of packs in drafts will be reversed? Pretty sure Piley posted it, in his usual dutiful manner, but here's a repeat just in case you missed it:
Pack Order to change

Another fun announcement from Wizards:
Phyrexian and Mirran packs (at prerelease only)
Besieged boosters for sale will be the full product mix, not faction-specific, so everything's "normal" after the prerelease. For the prerelease, however, I'll get booster boxes with 18 of each faction.

How the heck do we structure the drafts at the prerelease?
My idea - endorsed by Wizards - was 1 pack Scars, 1 pack Mirran faction, 1 pack Phyrexian faction
Prizes would be split, with the winner deciding the odd numbered pack (5-3-2-2 prize splits).

I know players at prereleases like the all-new-product drafts, but I don't see a good way of doing that. I guess, after randomizing seating, we could flip a coin - heads=Mirran or tails=Phyrexian, and give that pack to the odd-numbered seats, the other pack to the even-numbered seats - then do all Mirran for pack 2, all Phyrexian for pack 3 - leaving 4 of each faction for prizes.

It's gonna be interesting - and confusing, eh?

Whoops - never mind.

Just got word from Wizards; the structure for drafts is supposed to be:
1 Scars booster
2 Besieged faction boosters of their choice

Trying to wrap my brain around those logistics... :p

this release is going to be a huge fail unless they completely balanced both sides of the pot. But when have they ever done that?

I'm wondering if unopened faction packs might be worth something in the future. If this is the only time they're doing the faction packs, there's a limited number of them available and an even more limited number of them that won't be opened. What do you do with your extra product? Like Paul said, if they're not perfectly balanced, do you wind up with everyone picking one side and then giving prizes away from the other side? I don't know how people will like that. I'm kinda hoping to snag a couple of faction packs and leave them unopened in a box at home somewhere for posterity. Who knows, right?

The answer is Yes.

There are a few collectors that want up un-opened packs of each faction for putting away into storage.
