Sunday at the Grand Prix - it'll be one of two Denver Nagoya PTQs. TO will be Star City Games, just like the rest of the events at the GP. (The other Nagoya PTQ is FRMs, in March.) d:^D Edited by SleazyOtto, Jan 10 2011, 03:55 PM.

Scott, you're not running a second one through FRM? That's actually kinda disappointing. The GP PTQ will be considerably larger than our normal ones and will include people from a larger geographical area. I was kinda hoping that you'd have two more "local" ones. |

Yep, I agree. I was only offered one (so far), and probably won't get a 2nd one. Then again, I'm not sure I'd run a 2nd one anyway - airfare to Japan is really pricey - like, $2000 pricey. That's a pretty large expense... d:^D |

What if at the first event that you had a "silent polling" take place on if people would attend secondary PTQs at an additional $5 to $10 per person for the Foriegn PTs. For example, if the majority agreed... $40 per person for a second PT:Nagoya event instead of the standard $30 for one event.... Maybe even a 3rd PTQ if WotC is fine with this idea as well. |

Silent polling? Yeah, a secret vote that NO ONE would actually have to commit to would be a sound basis for a financially risky business decision... </sarcasm> Instead of silent polling, I could ask everyone to pre-pay for a second PTQ, with a promise that if I don't get X prepaid registrations, I'll refund entry fees. (Where 'X' is the break-even point.) And I predict I'd get about 10 prepaids, max. More like 4-5, I'd bet. d:^D |

Hmm.... ok, so Prepaid is a better method, but I guess.... what the real choice is "none" at this point... |

So, you get to foot the bill for the airfare? I thought that came out of WOTC. That must really suck for those places that get like 40 people to show up. How do they make any money on that? |

WotC pays the airfare for the first PTQ; for some special events - e.g., Paris - they covered it for both PTQs. Normally, however, the 2nd PTQ is at WotC's discretion, and requires that the organizer repay WotC for the airfare. That's why, in the past, we never got two PTQs - Eric didn't think it made sense, financially ... and he might be right. However, FRM is less about the $$$ and more about the community. (Not that I don't like the $$$, mind you...) For this round of PTQs, we should be happy - we do get two PTQs, where otherwise we'd almost certainly only get one. Even if I was offered a 2nd one, I'd probably decline. $2000 is way too much to eat, folks; even $1200-1400 is a pretty convincing argument against. So, by virtue of having a GP, we get two PTQs where we'd probably only have had one, otherwise. I'm not really sure I understand the concerns being expressed. We're used to two PTQs, we're getting two PTQs. d:^D |

Thanks for the explanation Scott. I didn't realize how it worked. My "concern" is that the PTQ attached to the GP will feature more players and therefore more competition. Not that I'm on the verge of breaking through or anything. It just seems that, in terms of EV, a GP PTQ isn't the best bet. Of course, I hope to be playing in day 2 of the GP, anyway, so that means no PTQ that day. lol |
