DAT STORY TIEM

I think one thing that I love about gaming the most is the hilarious events that can happen when you play. I've had loads of memorable moments, so I'm interested in hearing some of yours. I'll start off;

Recently playing Pokemon Y, I was using my Marill against the Champion's Tyrantrum. Pokemon Amie in that game is a feature where basically you cuddle and pet your Pokemon to make them love you more so naturally I did this for my Marill. Well, the Tyrantrum landed a Head Smash which would have killed my Marill for sure.

My Marill heroically survived on 1HP, saying it held on to avoid disappointing me. The Tyrantrum then killed itself in recoil. I've never been more proud.

Again in Pokemon, I was playing Emerald and fighting the Battle Dome Brain. I was down to my last Pokemon, Sceptile, on blinking red health against his Salamence who was also pretty damn low. My next attack wouldn't kill it and he was gonna kill me. Somehow my strongest move was Leaf Blade so I went with that.

And hit him with a Crit. <3

Other moments of unmatched accomplishments include my first "No Game Over" run of Castlevania, my thirteen minute Super Mario Bros 3 run and just flat out beating Ninja Gaiden. I'll post other things I found amusing if people are interested in the thread, but I'm mainly interested if anybody else has stories related to gaming that stayed with them for a while for whatever reason.

Most of my memorable gaming events I can think of are from multiplayer. Your Pokemon stories are pretty awesome, but when that kinda thing (barely winning) happens to me, I just feel kinda relieved at that moment but I don't really remember it after. Anyway:

Minecraft -- Back in Alpha and Beta (and in certain updates after release), the multiplayer server I played on had to create a new world every time there was an update that changed certain things. Because of this, we went through several maps/worlds. Each one was pretty unique and I had a lot of fun times in them until I left. Gonna post about the ones I remember below, but I started playing less after the first world so I'm probably forgetting stuff.

World 2 (my first)

World 3

Worlds 4 & 5

World 6 (best world)

Terraria -- I played a lot of other games with a group of people I met from Minecraft, but this one has some slightly more specific memories. I didn't play much, but they'd summon me to help with boss fights. I remember fighting a wall of flesh by throwing a flaming boomerang at it while wearing fancy armor they gave me. We fought a bunch of other bosses, but this was the craziest I was a part of, I think. I guess that's not all that specific, but all we really did was fight stuff, so. Yeah. It was fun, though.

Magicka -- This game is ridiculous. We never beat it together -- it wasn't too difficult, we just stopped -- but it was a lot of fun. Mainly because of friendly fire. It's not always intentional, but sometimes we just got in each other's way. Every element combination can be used as a projectile/beam (depending on elements), an AoE, or a self-cast thing, which is mainly for shielding/healing. There were just so many times when a chain lightning spell would hit one of us, or we'd accidentally place mines on someone, or our beams would pass through one of us... And of course we only used spells that did high amounts of damage (repeating an element increases its damage, but you can mix up to 5 elements for different effects) so it'd hurt bad. I remember we died almost instantly during one boss fight because we were all wet (except one guy) and that one guy used a lightning spell so it killed us all instantly. After he used that, he was trying to revive us, but a swarm of boss minions killed him.

This happened when I was playing Team Fortress 2 a couple of months ago. I was on BLU team playing Capture the Flag in 2Fort with both teams tied 2-2. The server time had 5 minutes left so we had until then to win it but no one's really working like a team as they should. The RED team had 4 engineers with lots of sentries placed on the entrance and my team is either going in there blindly getting killed one by one or making their own nest of sentries.

I decided to take matters into my own hands. I switched to Spy (i usually suck as Spy) with Cloak and Dagger (which means I can stay invisible for as long as I want), then sneaked into their base. Before I could take the flag (or the Intelligence), there was one engineer and his sentry waiting at the Courtyard which is where one of the entrances to the flag is. Since I wanted a clean getaway, I waited for the right moment to backstab the engineer then sap his sentry but the engineer decided to move his sentry somewhere else and now my escape route is clear. I went down to get the flag but when I came back, there were 3 engineers waiting for me. I charged through them, ran past their spawn, jumped down from the battlements then into the sewers with low health left. I safely returned to the base with my team voice commanding "Go Go Go!" then captured the flag. Made me feel like a hero that time.

The only one that comes to mind immediately is when I was a younger kid playing Pokemon Gold. Since I was young, I obviously wasn't that skilled at Pokemon up to this point. I was up against Chuck, and I had gotten him down to his Poliwrath on red health. Unfortunately, he also had gotten me down to my Typhlosion, which he promptly beat. In a last ditch effort, I sent out my lvl. 3 Sentret that I had for some reason (I was a wee lad). Miraculously, Poliwrath missed and my Sentret's tackle hit with a crit that was JUST ENOUGH to kill it. Sentret promptly gained like 6 lvls.

NEW FAVORITE GAMING MEMORY

Just played Dungeons & Dragons for the first time. Friend got the Red Box which includes all of the bare minimum essential things, and it was lacking in a few areas but other than that it allowed us to play so it was cool. Anyway, I played a human cleric and my allies were a human fighter and a human wizard. This kit only had instructions for those three classes plus a rogue. Our DM was gonna be a rogue if we could find someone else to DM, but we couldn't. So anyway, it came with a map of a dungeon so we started there. Killed a few goblins 'n stuff in the first room and I saw a vision of the place we were trying to get to. Fought some more stuff then found two paths. One had a carpet, which was very suspicious so we found a pitfall trap under it. The other room had several chess pieces. It was a puzzle, which I failed. While I was in there, my allies found a dragon. They started talking to it, convincing it not to kill us 'n stuff. When I failed the chess challenge, the pieces started attacking me so I left and ran to that dragon instead. It got angry at us, so we started fighting it. We bloodied it, which means we got it to half HP and it got more powerful attacks. It promptly killed me and the fighter with those while our wizard hid behind a wall shooting magic missiles at it. So then it killed him too. I left out some minor details that might enhance the storytelling aspects of this account, but eh. It was really fun. And I get to DM next time so our DM from this round can play! It's gonna be fun. I'd love to get like ten more rulebooks, though. So much stuff to be done. Oh, and we never leveled up but we played for like five hours. I knew games took a long time, but I always assumed that one session involved making a character, leveling up pretty close to 30 (max) and killing the big bad, but apparently characters persist between sessions/dungeons so I'm looking forward to doing a TON of stuff in the future. Once we find a ton of stuff for free/cheap or somehow learn how to become creative so we can make our own dungeons.

Marvel vs Capcom 3: So I decided to go online and try and play some against a bunch of random internet people, despite being terrible at melee games. My team was Deadpool, Iron Man, and Thor (pretty sure). So I go up against my first opponent, and I started out doing alright, but eventually he took out Deadpool and Thor. Left with Iron Man, I eventually was brought down to within one hit away from losing, and he still had all three characters each with half health. Despite all this, I took him down. I managed to beat him without getting hit once. My first online match, I won against all odds, and that is literally the only time I have ever won online on anything ever. Go me.

Just played Dungeons & Dragons for the first time.
I had so much fun playing D&D with my friends back in the day. My best friend's dad was a great DM so it was a blast.

Umm, anyway, my story isn't nearly as exciting as some of these others. The one thing that sticks out in my mind is a final kill I got in the first Black Ops. inb4lolladoody. Anyway, an enemy had called in a care package and I saw on the map that it was very close to my location. I pulled out my Semtex grenade (a grenade that sticks to whatever it touches) and chucked it in the direction of where the package was falling. Somehow, the grenade landed directly on the package as the guy was trying to claim it and killed him to win the match for our team. I remember lolling so hard when the final killcam aired because everybody with a mic was ragging on the guy that died. It was quite amusing.

Can't really comment too much on D&D but I really wish I was able to play it.

@Mac: winning against impossible odds always feels great. I remember playing four player Crash Team Racing when I was younger and doing a seven lap race on "Sewer Speedway". Anyway, my cousin, who was the gaming guru at the time, was already on Lap 5 when I was still on Lap 3. The other two people we were with were both on Lap 4. It was in this race I discovered Sewer Speedway's shortcut and suddenly raced the race of my life and ended up winning coming over the final jump. The game gives you a title after each race and I got one which I've only seen a handful of times; "Comeback Kid". Felt pretty amazing.

@dwest: I have a few similar stories of doing absolutely amazing things completely by accident on LoL. It's even better on that because your team goes nuts and calls you God when you didn't mean to do it =P

Pokemon Red. Got to the Champion and it was a pretty intense battle, but with the final round being, fittingly enough, his Venusaur vs. my Blastoise. How it started.

He's Venusaur, sure, but I'd known well enough to give Ice Beam to Blastoise, so I had a fighting chance. I queue up Ice Beam. Venusaur is faster and lands Razor Leaf which drops me to 4 HP. Retaliation Ice Beam does about 50-60% of his health. So now I'm facing him, knowing there's absolutely no way I can tank any more attacks, but knowing if I can land one more Ice Beam, I beat him. My finger's over the power switch since I know I can't win the speed war. But a voice in my head says "stick it out". So I order another Ice Beam.

"Venusaur is taking in sunlight!"

The very first (and only) time I won a match of sticks and stones on cod. I got set back 3 times and yet still managed to pull off the victory. The last minute was extremely intense.
