decided to take Silencer into my first pub since he was my daily hero. OH MY GOD SO MUCH FUN. they just...could not fucking stop me. my combo was amazing and I started out 7-0 before WD finally got me. all three of my deaths came from WD. hats off to him for that performance. BS decided to abandon at the end but it was late game so the stats recorded

we big time nao

I like the idea. Most of us who cared enough to watch anything from the first six days will probably watch in-client or on Twitch, so this isn't necessarily aimed at us. I'll be watching dat preview tho. Even if it's aimed at a more casual audience, this is the kind of thing e-sports need to do to gain more recognition. A ten million dollar pool helps, of course.

Can't wait to hear how "Dota isn't real sports" from the lovely guys who watch ESPN.

Also, we won't have to hear Joe Suck. I know ESPN won't put A-tier talent on this, so we won't get someone like Chris Berman either. Whew.

Really getting frustrated and my enjoyment of the game is suffering because of it. Everybody else is clearly improving and I've stagnated something fierce. Just......ugh.

EDIT: So because I had nothing else to do while my lunch was in the oven, I figured out my career KDA in pubs. I'm 451/806/906 in 102 matches, for an impressive 1.68 KDA ratio. Going through my pages of games, there was pretty apparent improvement until the last 25 matches or so. There was some serious regression at that point and I have no idea why.

1196/833/1790 for 3.58. Some of those games are my brothers who used my account ages ago and fed a storm cause they were out of practice, but I don't think it's that influential.

I'll do a longer post later tonight about the tilt.

On my first account I was at: 936/1029/1534 for 2.40 KDA.

Since making my new account I'm at: 305/176/527 for 4.73 KDA.

Together it's: 1241/1205/2061 for 2.74 KDA.

I have mastered the art of the kill steal since my early days.

1297/1875/2164 = 1.85 KDA in 227 games

Fun Facts:
1. I have the most in every category.
2. Most kills is Slark with 203, most deaths is Slark with 164, most assists is Slark with 191 (Slark KDA = 2.40).
3. Most non-Slark kills is PA with 189, most non-Slark deaths is Shadow Shaman with 124, most non-Slark assists is PA with 166 (Lion is third with 128).
4. I have exactly one hundred more deaths than kills with Shadow Shaman.
5. I am really good at Shadow Shaman.
6. I have a 0 KDA with Viper.
7. There are fourteen heroes I have below a 1.00 KDA with, and two that are exactly 1.00.

This sort of made me feel sad, so I also did KDA for the past week and it was:
236/245/378 = 2.51 KDA
which made me feel better.

Just for fun, first pub.
And for less fun, second pub. I blame Oli for letting me play AM. 45 minute potion and Shadow Amulet AM swag (I'm also pretty sure I wasn't going for SB since at this point I didn't understand the concept of buying components to work towards better items).

I don't play alone very often, but I think I might work on some carries. I feel like I play support a lot, and supports are cool, but the hero selection for supports feels more limited compared to carries, and supports end up buying similar items a lot (wards/Mek/dust/smoke, boots, and other stuff if you're winning) so I'd just like to play carries a little more often for the variety.

Been a while since I made a big post. Okay let's see.

I said this earlier a while back but I think your tilt problem is related to not being able to properly play from behind. And, to your credit, it's a problem that everyone has in the game, because falling behind makes it a lot harder for you to do standard catchup things, like confidently farm lanes, secure kills, etc. It means you need to play conservatively which really sucks sometimes.

There are so many different advantages in Dota but I think the two that are directly impactful are gold and experience. They're pretty self-explanatory - gold advantage means better items, more plentiful consumables, stronger hero. Experience advantage means stronger skills, or improved stats from both natural stat gain and any points into Attribute Bonus you've invested. Even 3-4 levels make a big difference with +8 S/A/I from the attribute bonus as well as a range of 5-15 or so scattered in stats from stat gain. Not much on paper, huge in practice.

So in order to surmount these big two you basically need gold and experience. The easiest way to get these is creeps, of course, but a team with an advantage is going to try and stop you from coming back and will attempt to gank you out. Jungle camps are probably the safest way to come back - they don't give you a huge amount of gold or experience, but they are reliable because unless they're blocked out they'll be there for you. Of course, only 1 (maybe 2) player/s at a time can farm the camps, so coming back on a support is really tricky. Your entire team can't relegate themselves to the jungle, you'll never recover.

Second suggestion is hero pickoffs. My motto when going for kills is that it's not (usually) about the big targets, but it's about the easy ones. Carries aren't worth any more gold than a support (unless they're on a spree or whatever) so there's no reason to save an ability to only target a carry if the same ability would kill a support, doubly so if you can stop them from using their impactful abilities before a fight starts. Of course, a giant clash when fighting from behind is going to end poorly (unless you coordinate the fight much better) but being able to find a 3v1 or 4v1 situation can get you back in it, as well as create space to roam the map more easily. That's one of the reasons I like buying Smoke, because it forces the team to group up and try to find 4v1 or 3v1 pickoffs.

I think one of the worst things you can do while behind is do nothing. Of course, there's a limit to how boldly you can play in a position where you're not fighting on even terms, but to sit in your base and wait for them to push your high ground is not the answer, because there's no way your team will ever fix that experience and level advantage sitting in the base. There's no safe way to come back from a lead, and sometimes you need to take a calculated risk. Find a teammate or two and make something happen. Communication is king. HDSQ tends to dominate us in scrims because they rotate teammates so well, and everyone is informed about what's going on with the others - I've played League with these guys for over a year, and still sometimes queue with them for pubs here.

The game's hard to come back from behind but people do it all the time. Of course, the preferred course of action would be to get ahead in the first place - which is one of the reasons I like to play so aggressively in lanes - but nonetheless it's part of the game and it feels so good when you pull it off.
