If you're looking for early kills, then by all means get it at level 1. Although, depending on who you're up against, it may be best to level it later (i.e. going mid against Viper) since it's not a reliable escape tool. Whatever the case, i advise to have 3 levels of Q and at least one on W and E before you get your ult. |

Predictions for the next "oh look another ______ picker" hero for this patch? Just for kicks when we look back at it later, and if we all have different picks, I'll probably end up getting an announcer pack or something for the person who picked the most OP hero of the patch. My pick: Necrophos I think Necro's about to be downright stupid this patch, reasons being: -Not only was he pretty effing strong last patch, but he managed to fly completely under the radar for direct nerfs to the hero -A few of his core items (Mek, Shiva's) got small buffs. -Lotus Orb and Octarine Core give him even better defensive tools. Lotus is armor and regeneration, perfect for the hero, and the spell-reflecting active, which is the main selling point of the item, is super nice. Cooldown reduction and spell vamp on Octarine keep him topped off and firing off ults even more frequently. At this point he has so many items that are amazing on him (Aghs, Shivas, Bloodstone, Sheepstick, Octarine Core, Dagon, Eblade, Refresher, Lotus Orb, BKB) that he's incredibly flexible in whether he needs to get multiple Reaper's Scythes off or stay alive to keep spamming Death Pulse. -Guardian Greaves let him condense Mek into his boots slot, and seem almost tailor-made for the hero who needs a large mana pool, almost always builds Mek, and doesn't really need any other type of boots. -Probably most importantly, you guys probably noticed the new items are on the midgame/lategame side (Mango excepted). I think a number of changes in this patch indicate that the meta might head towards high-stakes lategame teamfights. Comeback mechanics were put in place to prevent heavy unstoppable deathball, and allow for the team playing from behind to always have a chance. Games get dragged out more and this is where Necro shines. Aghs is basically 100% core on him since disabling buyback in the lategame is huge and the spell absolutely massacres key targets. Now mechanics are in place so that people get even more gold from securing kills on heroes with the highest net worth - exactly the targets Necro is trying to wipe anyways. Not only that, but since Necro is pretty team-reliant, mechanics are also in place to allow for his ult kills to buff up his teammates' net worth. Throw in the fact that lowered creep bounties (lane and neutral) hurt farming/ricing heroes, and higher kill bounty supports teamfight carries (Necro), and I think the meta shift basically leads to a bunch of teamfights where one or two blocked buybacks from Reaper's Scythe completely prevent comebacks by the opposing team. Necro is already annoying as shit to face. I think he's about to be even worse. Edited by Olinea, Apr 29 2015, 02:20 PM.

Yeah I was saying last night that Octarine enhances everything about the hero. His already good spammable spell becomes even more spammable and heals him for even more than ever, letting him stay in fights longer. Octarine is a very interesting item in general, and I think it's the item that's going to change the current game the most. Some of the most interesting users of the item are going to be Necrophos, Bristleback, Leshrac, Death Prophet, and Timbersaw. I'm personally excited to break out Death Prophet again because I think this item's going to be fantastic on her. I'd normally say Leshrac is going to turn into that hero that you're talking about in your post because his absurdity with Octarine is clear, but I'm not really sure. I think one thing to keep in mind with Necro and other users of strong one-time spells is how Lotus Orb is going to make casting those types of spells more dangerous than ever. I think Invoker could become that hero. It wasn't long ago that it felt like we were getting trashed by Invokers left and right, but we haven't seen that too much lately. He got a pretty huge intelligence gain buff (2.5 to 3.2) and I think Octarine Core is going to be really strong on him, due to the health steal but mostly due to the cooldown reductions and just naturally giving him a lot of what he needs (+25 intelligence and a lot of health and mana). So I'll throw Invoker in as my pick. Some other random thoughts on the update: - I think the buff to Keeper of the Light's Chakra Magic is huge. The early game kill potential skyrockets there. If you're Wraith King or Chaos Knight, suddenly you have two straight stuns in an attempt to land a kill. That's going to be really fun to use and terrible to play against. - I really like Lifestealer's Feast buff. I think that's huge and changes his theoretical best build pretty significantly. At the very least, I'd have to think Daedalus now comes into play as a buy in many cases. Cleaving feast damage could also be pretty huge in certain situations, but I think that's a very situational item. The Aghs upgrade is weird, though. I don't think that's something you buy with a 1 position Lifestealer, and I'm not much of a fan of any other kind of Lifestealer. - Aghanim's Scepter Lone Druid is interesting. In a lot of cases, I've felt like the actual Lone Druid hero was useless in battle early/mid game since he doesn't really have any items at that point. Being able to send your bear that can actual do stuff into a fight while farming or something with your hero seems valuable. I'm not sure exactly how this is going to work or when it's going to best be bought, but it seems like it could be pretty strong. - Naga Siren's Aghs upgrade seems extremely good. In fact her buffs in general seem like she can actually be a pretty powerful utility hero now. I was never a big fan of the idea before, but that Aghs upgrade seems stupidly strong. - Shadow Demon's Aghs upgrade seems pretty significant now. That's going to be a very good upgrade to get when against a FV, Drow, PA, or whoever else. - I can't tell if Ursa's new ult is better or worse, but I do know that Roshan better pepper that angus. - Dragon Knight's Breathe Fire buff seems pretty significant. He used to be played more mid than he is right now and I think that buff is going to put him back as a mid for the most part. |

http://i.imgur.com/YuEsqN7.png?1 New ult CD's with Octarine. I initially left Queen of Pain off my list of fun possible Octarine heroes but I think that's going to be a good fit, too. I think Orchid -> Aghs -> Octarine would be a good order. |
