I see we're posting new singles?

Fine, have some new Stars. The Theory of Relativity is *alright*, but Hold On When You Get Love is amazing and has me psyched for this album.

While we are STILL on the topic of new singles, this came out about 20 minutes ago.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am super excited for this new record.

Just listened to Baroness' "Red Album". Very cool stuff, definitely checking out the rest of their albums on spotify.

A Lollapalooza-themed post? Sure, why not?

Florence Tier:

-Florence + the Machine, of course. This performance was the whole reason I even bothered watching the festival, though outside of her, Sunday was the best day of the show IMO anyway.

I could gush on and on, but here's the setlist, best as I recall:
Only If For A Night
Shake It Out
What The Water Gave Me
No Light, No Light
Heartlines
Spectrum
Dog Days Are Over
Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)
Breath of Life

Hit on pretty much all of my favorites. I would have liked Seven Devils, Hurricane Drunk would have been nice (and fitting for my state at the time!), and Kiss With A Fist is a purdy good one from Lungs, but this is overall a great selection.

High Tier:

-Of Monsters and Men had a pretty good set as far as I'm concerned, but I was well on my way to drunk and only really recognized Little Talks. You know, because that's their song that gets played everywhere. I'll probably listen to the whole album again later. >.>

-Trampled By Turtles also had a good show. I really like it when they stick to their faster stuff, and outside of a couple of their slower songs, they did just that. Also, listening to the rest of their work now

-Aloe Blacc came out of nowhere to deliver a great performance. I expected, fuck, I don't know, some awful rapper or something, which the stream had plenty of. I did not expect an extremely catchy jazz/rock hybrid. This is definitely an act I'll be checking more out from.

-I missed First Aid Kit, but my saviors at Google uploaded some of their set, and of course the songs were great. I would have liked if they uploaded Hard Believer, but idk if that was even played obviously.

-Metric's set was the best set of Friday, not that Friday's artists were all "omg must see". Anyway, they played most of the good shit from Synthetica and my favorite songs from Fantasies (Gold Guns Girls, Stadium Love, etc), so I was quite content.

-The Shins and Band of Skulls were playing at the same time. I would have liked to see both, but the scheduling gods seemed to hate me. Anyway, I caught parts of both sets, and while both bands were good, I think I preferred Band of Skulls' set more. Band of Skulls was playing some stuff that was weirder than anything I've heard from them, and I must say I liked it a lot.

-I didn't catch much of The Afghan Whigs because I think they were playing at the same time as Metric, but what I did manage to catch was pretty good. I'll have to check them out on Spotify or something.

-Also, Tame Impala was a pretty good early act, if only because their music sounded like it had some actual backbone. I like indie rock and all, but a lot of acts are really soft, so it's nice to hear something "harder", as it were.

Meh Tier:

Oh god, there are plenty of meh tier acts, and I could say the same things for many of them: They were *alright*, but didn't grab my attention. That's all it really comes down to.

So, a list: The Head and the Heart, The War On Drugs, Blind Pilot, Jeff The Brotherhood, Delta Spirit, Sharon Van Etten, GIVERS, Bombay Bicycle Club, Oberhofer, Gary Clark Jr, The Walkmen, The Gaslight Anthem, J. Cole, Toro Y Moi, Los Jaivas, At The Drive-In

Shit/Did Not Watch Tier:

-Die Antwoord. What the FUCK were they going for? Idk, it sounded like some really awful blend of rap and some sort of electronic music. I heard a few seconds of this shit and switched the channel.

-Dawes/Franz Ferdinand. Two of the worst male vocalists ever, and given the importance I tend to place on great vocals in many genres, these groups quickly grated on my ears and I switched back to whatever else was on.

-Wale and Childish Gambino. Because fuck shitty, untalented rappers. I guess I can understand why they were given late streaming slots, but still, they suck cocks.

Finally got around to the new Lacuna Coil (yay Spotify for finally getting dem Century Media artists), and... Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to feature more male vocals? Nobody in the history of ever has said the male vocals are what make the band good. Lacuna Coil is at their best when we hear more Cristina and far less of him.

This is probably still their best work since Comalies, but the last two albums are so meh (if not "outright bad") that this isn't saying a whole lot.

Dat new Stars album. Pretty good, though on first listen I'm not sure I like it as much as The Five Ghosts or Set Yourself on Fire. I'll likely give it another listen or two later or some shit. >.>

Been getting into Audioslave. Gonna get at least their first album and maybe a couple Soundgarden albums Wednesday when I get paid.

Similar to this. Since I've been listening to a lot of Chris Cornell lately, I'm wondering why Kurt Cobain is so famous compared to the other grunge singers. Out of all the grunge singers, Kurt Cobain is the weakest link of the singers of the big 4 of grunge. Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, and Layne Staley just blow him away.

The new Amanda Palmer got uploaded by someone, woo.

Definitely didn't let me down, but I think she already released some of the best songs for free. Outside of those, The Bed Song, Smile, Grown Man Cry, and Massachusetts Avenue are all great as well. There isn't a single *bad* song on the album, and honestly I think this is probably going to be my favorite Amanda Palmer album outside of The Dresden Dolls' s/t (which is sheer brilliance).

Can't wait until the show. I have some idea of what the seven picture upload is all about, and it should be fucking awesome. Hell, the whole show should kick ass. I should check out the opening acts at some point...

Stars' new album officially dropped, so I had to go listen to that again. I still *like* it and all, but there's some really meh shit on it. That said, Backlines, Hold On, Do You Want to Die Together, and A Song Is A Weapon are all pretty damn good. I'll probably wait until the price goes down a little on Amazon/I can get a discount to get it, though. >.>

The new Cat Power album was surprisingly good. I expected a more folky sound than what I got, but it sounded more... idk, indie rock-ish? Works for me. I like her voice; I don't particularly care for her brand of folk. Might have to pick it up if I see it on the cheap, but it's not a huge priority.

Also checked out the new Animal Collective, mostly so I could insult hipsters. Because fuck hipsters. Anyway, this was better than Merriweather Post Pavilion, but given what I think about that album (and ITAOTS), this isn't saying much. Apparently they're trying to sound like some sort of alien band from what I've read, but all I got out of it was indie rock with more electronic influence than what is typical. It's not godawful, but it's not all that great either. *shrugs*

The Very Best's new album just came out. It seems to be a bit more electronic. Like the last one was totally electronic but this one has more autotune and more electronic sound effects.

ITAOTS has some good songs. See Ghost and untitled

My favorite song from the new The Very Best album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEPTIhoqiqk
those jangly guitar riffs are gorgeous.

I've been listening to loads of Led Zeppelin and some Jethro Tull lately.
Riding the bus an hour a day opens a great opportunity to listen to loads of great music.
I've also "re-discovered" In Flames. I listened to "Reroute to Remain" (from 2002) yesterday, and it kinda blew me away. I've always been an "old skool In Flames" fan and kind of been hating on the "new stuff". But luckily my musical tastes have drastically improved and broadened over the past few years.
I've been listening to "Soundtrack to Your Escape" today and it's just great.

I don't post here much, so the first of the two things I'm going to post was something I mainly got into over the summer.

1.) Battlestar Galactica soundtracks -- Best music I've heard in a TV show, but maybe that's just because it's featured more. Other shows I've watched tend to have soft background music to set the mood or maybe crescendo into an important plot point, but even just listening to the soundtrack alone, it really brings me back to whatever point(s) in the show the song was played in and almost always fits perfectly. So that's pretty much why I think it's the best TV show soundtrack I've listened to.

2.) Epicloud (by Devin Townsend Project, but you all knew that already) -- omg. So good. But you all knew that already. I'm just late.

Oh and this isn't something I've been listening to a whole lot, but I listened to a few songs from the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog soundtrack recently with a friend during band on the bus. Good stuff.
